: DR Coilovers Installed! (Pics)
Train 01-15-2006, 02:09 PM Installed my DR coilovers this week! I can definitely notice a difference in ride quality. 2.5" shocks are definitely better than 2". Truck doesn't look like it's doing a face plant anymore.
I highly recommend going with coilovers if you can pony up the clams! One word of warning... DR says these come preloaded for 2" of lift. This is not accurate. The lift is exactly 3". Not 2.8, not 2.9, 3". I'll be adjusting mine down to 2.5" or maybe 2" next weekend.

Got em off of PRG's site for $1150. I know, pretty steep but it's worth it. I feel like this gives me more of a suspension upgrade where-as spacers are purely for looks/tire clearance.

Thanks, there was more knuckle bustin' involved than I'd expected but it paid off in the end...
tgmotoman 01-15-2006, 04:26 PM Really nice. How has the ride been affected?
got_titan 01-15-2006, 04:33 PM looks great...prg makes and sells great products!!!
That looks good but DAM $1150, I'm liking those little plastic spacers more & more.

One of the most noticable is how it responds to front <-> back shock as opposed to just up <-> down. For instance, when hitting a speed bump @ 15 mph you don't even really feel it. I'm not sure why this is but I think it has to do with the DRs having a forward orientation at the bottom. The Factory coilovers are straight up and down where-as the DRs are pitched forward 1" at the bottom. Again, I'm not sure if this is what makes them respond so much better but they do.
Overall the ride feels much more graceful. There isn't a big difference when, say you hit a single pothole, but if you hit a string of 6 or 8 together there's far less shaking and bouncing (less shock being transfered to the vehicle).
I've been driving a little tentatively since it's up 3". Once I get around to putting it down to 2.5" or 2" I might leave the pavement and have a little more info for you.

I hear ya man and I don't think there's a thing in the world wrong with those spacer kits... just wasn't my bag.
Train 01-15-2006, 06:35 PM I forgot to post the measurements. This raised the front wheel well from 35" to 38".
rcantu 01-16-2006, 12:12 AM looks good. It looks pretty level from your pics.
I got mine going in tomorrow. glad to know the good feedback on them. btw they come with a lifetime warranty.
Train 01-16-2006, 06:26 AM Very close to level yes. I think it may actually be about 1/4" higher in the front. I'm going to be lowering mine a just a little because I heard that anything above 2.5" without replacing the upper A-arm doesn't allow enough travel and can cause problems.
Glad someone else is getting these. If you have any questions fire away. Don't plan on this being a 30 minute job. Even with a hydraulic lift and all the right tools this is a 2 hour job ...take your time.
Here are a few early tips...
1. Unless you've got some howitzers mounted to your shoulders you'll need a breaker bar to get the bottom bolt off.
2. When lining up the new ones... these puppies weigh 25 lbs each so you won't be able to hold it with one hand while prying and pushing with the other for more than a few minutes. Get the top outermost bolt in and put a nut on it to hold the coilover in place.
The instructions that come with them are great, those are just some tips I wish I'd had before starting.
Let me know how it goes!

When i did my spacer leveling that bottom bolt wasnt that hard to take off. I just used a regular socket wrench and some elbow grease.
Train 01-16-2006, 11:06 AM Your elbows are greased better than mine :) I used an 8" socket wrench and a 10" pipe...
TENTITAN 01-16-2006, 11:36 AM Damn man they really had those bolts on there. Your truck looks good that is my next plained mod when i get the money. You should consider the bilsteins on the back now and have a cadillac ride.
Hazertmed 01-16-2006, 03:17 PM Looks good. I am heading down that road myself, late this year maybe. You did not do anything to the back right? Justifying the extra inch for another 1k is hard though.

Great minds think alike! Bilsteins are on my "todo" list. I've got a couple of interior mods that I want to knock out before that though.

Nope, haven't done anything to the back yet. Will probably go with the bilsteins in though in the future. I know what you mean about the 1k. If you're not too concerned with improving the ride/handling I'd just go with some form of spacer kit.
As I mentioned, this is more of a performance upgrade verses the spacers which may not hurt the ride but definitely don't add anything too it.
