: Cat back exhaust removal
Here are some pics showing what is involved in removing stock cat back system. It is probobly the easiest exhaust I have ever worked on. There are no slip in/pipe to pipe conections. It is all flanges held together with bolts. Remove the 4 nuts from the cats, and 2 bolts from behind the muffler, and entire system comes out very easy!
Caltitan 01-29-2005, 10:38 PM I agree, the removal is very simple even if you're lying on your back underneath the truck like I was (it did help to have the rear lifted about 1-ft on jack stands). Here is my pic of the stock exhaust after I removed it. I plan on removing those heat shields before the y-pipe and putting them on my Flowmaster exhaust.

goval 05-31-2005, 08:13 PM Question:
Will these instructions work for any aftermarket exhaust? I got a Banks on order, it should be here next Monday. I'm sure not paying $200.00 to get someone installed, so I'm doing this myself.
chefbob 05-31-2005, 08:18 PM I took the clean way out. Midas- $58.00
goval 05-31-2005, 08:28 PM Did you have to set an appointment?
chefbob 05-31-2005, 08:39 PM Did you have to set an appointment? I came home from work, package was on my porch, opened it, looked under the truck, figured I could do it but, called Midas, loaded it up, done an hour later
goval 06-01-2005, 09:41 AM I might do that since this thing is getting here during the weekday, and I only have time on weekends. Thanks for the info!
goval 06-06-2005, 10:05 PM BXIL, you forgot to mention that to take those screws out, you will need lots of WD-40. Man that took me forever, they were extremely tight.

Oh man, you need to eat your Wheaties! I have dealt with MUCH worse then those were! Besides all that, I used air tools, and it wasn't a strain at all!
goval 06-07-2005, 07:58 AM Well, see I had the old fasioned manual wrenches, lol. The thing was kind of rusted though. Also I didn't have a lift, I was under the car doing the work, my neck still hurts. Also I couldn't remove the screws after the muffler, so I ended up removing the brakets and taking the whole exhaust as one piece out, talk about a pain in the butt. Well that was better than paying 140 bucks for meineike to put it on.
I think that was the most difficult job I had to do, it took me about 3 hours, but spent over 1 hour just trying to remove those screws.
For all of you that wants to put the exhaust by yourself, don't pay too much money for it to get it hooked up, instead, try to find a "hook up" so you can use a lift, would have been a lot easier if I had one.
