I posted this in the Exterior Mods section but thought it might be good to have here also.

First off I want to say this Xetronic HID kit from www.burtmanindustries.com (http://www.burtmanindustries.com) is top quality. These things look great at night and give a lot of light. It is my first set of HID's and I can tell you I will never own another vehicle without them. The difference between these lights and stock halogen lights is night and day. As always BurtmanIndustries.com has selected a top notch product to sell. They may not be the cheapest but you know the saying "You get what you pay for". I will try and add to this but I wanted to get the pictures up for now.LINK TO KIT ON BURTMANS SITE (http://www.burtmanindustries.com/zoomprod.php?id=hid_kit)

Very nice write-up M4ck.

About how long did it take you, from start to finish?

Looking at your wrtie-up, it looks pretty easy to do this, but so does brain surgery when I watch it on TV. Would level of mechanical skills do you think someon would need to do this?

Its not hard at all. If I hadnt taken pictures then probably 45 minutes to an hour just working at a nice pace. You dont have to be very mechanical. I think most people around here know I am no mechanic. I am just ok with following directions (usually). LOL
A couple things you dont see is there is a screw you need to remove from the inside middle of the fender wheel well on each side. If you dont do this you wont get the light housings out.

I've a question or two:

1. does the ballast get hot in operation?
2. does the ballast require grounding?

I ask because I wonder if it should be mounted to a metal surface with screws/bolts to provide heat transfer and grounding to help eliminate electrical interference.

 I know this may seem dumb but how do I get the grill off? I just got my Titan 3 weeks ago and am just starting to look at mods and the HID kit is next on the list after the Banks exhuast.

M4ck

There are 4 plastic square screw heads you just turn to the left to loosen then pop the top of the grill out. Then the bottom will pop out too just go slow. Its pretty easy. When you are ready to put it back on place those plastic square screw head pieces and line them back up in the slots on the grill and it just pops back into place. Pretty easy.

I would highly recommend soldering the pinch clips that come with the kit. I had some issues with intermittent flickering on the passenger side. Once I soldered the wire/clip connections it was fine. These lights are great! :D

:) Thanks! I guess I should introduce myself... My name is Mark, I am from Kingston, PA and have had my Titan for 3 1/2 weeks now so I have been trying to gleen as much info about my new girl as I can. Gotta be careful as my girlfriend might get a feeling that she has some competition  Can't tell you how glad I was to find this site! It is a real god send to a novice like me. Keep up the good work.

Hi M4ck,

My HID kit says that I should change the fuse to a 20A for the headlights but I am not sure where the headlamp one is. I didn't see it in the fuse box by the glovebox. Any idea?

Thanks,

Good write up. But there is a lot easier way to install. I did a write up on installing HID's that would work just as well for Burtman's. It's over on TT, at

http://www.******.com/forums/titan-parts-accessories/32193-jdm-hid-titan-review.html

But the low down, is just follow some instructions to change the headlamp bulb. Basically you just have to turn your tires outward, then pull unscrew the front of the wheel housing, Two phillips I think. Then you pull it back, and you have access to the back of the headlamps. Then you basically unplug the bulb, plug in the HID, clamp everything together, and mount the ballast on the little shelf below the light. I did my first one in 30 minutes without even trying. The second one I did, took 10 minutes.

I also recommend putting a little silcone grease around the outside of the connectors at the ballast, to help repel water. If you start getting a little bit of corrosion in there, you will have ballast problems.

and HID's are the absolute best upgrade for the money. They improve night time vision, it's awesome!

I see an example cutoff in one pic so far. Does anyone else have any other shots? I want to do this but want to make sure it's pretty crisp. I know it won't be like a projector but want to see an example. Thanks.

I got a question. Has anyone done this already or would these HID lights work with that Halo headlight that recently came out? I'm wondering if it would be too hot for the plastic. It would be great to put a light like that in that kind of housing.

JasonB

HIDS actually produce LESS heat that standard halogen bulbs. As long as the halo's have the same bulb type as the stock bulbs, yes, they will work.

I was just wondering if you could shed some light on this issue for me. I am looking to by an HID kit for my Titan. I took you suggestion and checked out BurtmanIndustries produce and Hidkitshop.net's product. Hidkitshop.net's kit is 279.00 and BurtmanIndustries product is 449.00. My question is why? There doesn't seem to be a difference between the two except for the brand. What do you think?

JasonB

Quick correction, our kit is $399:

http://www.burtmanindustries.com/zoomprod.php?id=hid_kit

Some of the things that set this kit apart are it's 100% made in Japan. Most kits aren't, or use tricky wording like "japan engineered", "japan technology", etc.

Another thing is we offer a 2 year warranty on ballasts and 1 year on bulbs. Not many kits, if any offer this kind of warranty or stand behind it.
Why is this important? If a ballasts blows, to replace, aprox $120, a bulb around $90. With this kit you are covered.

We have another version that's $100 less than the one on the site, but it's like most of the others out there, and the quality just isn't the same.

You dont need to do all this! Its too much work.... I installed my lights in 15 minutes! same setup and everything... all you have to do is unscrew 2 screws that hold the inner wheel well liner to the body. It gives you PLENTY of access to the back of the lights and areas to mount the ballasts. My ballasts came with double side thick foam mounting pads and then i zip tied them to the frame.

Seriously... for those doing this mod... you dont need to remove the whole lamp assembly. just undo 2 of the screws on the inner wheel well liner and you are set.

Its prob one of the best mods ive done... the lighting is INSANE!!!! WAY better than those "factory" HID lights.

JasonB

Cool, yea, you can do it prob in about 20 min total, I just think he was looking for the most stealthiest install. : )

Jason, do you carry the higher quality HID kit for this size? Thanks!

Yep, see drop down link:

http://www.burtmanindustries.com/zoomprod.php?id=hid_kit

ALSO, price has just been reduced from $399 to $369!!!

This also includes 1 yr warranty on the bulbs and the 2 yrs on the ballasts, which not many, if any will offer.

If you don't need the top/best kit like above, we have other kits that are less expensive (china), call, email, or PM, if you want more info

I've been debating this mod for a LONG time now. You get used to HIDs and switching back and forth is a real PIA... The Maxima has them and they're wonderful.

Can I use this kit for high beams and then get a second set for low beams??? Also, is there a fog-light kit? The fogs will look pretty yellow in comparison.

Hmm....awesome! I am looking at getting these myself, but after just dumping money in the kiddy for the Injen CAI from Jason, I am a little low in mod funds....I will have to save up, unless Jason decides to put them on sale for a better price...hehe They definitely look like a great improvement, though!

AS of today they are $30 off, from $399 to $369. Will probabaly keep this special for the Holiday.

I do have other kits, not the same quality, but for much less, email, or PM, if you don't need the best kit like above.

Well, lkooking at the #'s, we would need at least 5+ orders, and that would drop the price maybe $15-$20 max. We just dropped these about $30 for the holidays already at the current price. Interest?

Great write-up, I just got finished installing my kit from Burtman (although I went with the easier "from the wheel well" method). I went with the 4300K kit and they are AWESOME!! I had a 6000K kit in my last truck and they were a little blue. These are much better! HIDs are so much better, I can't believe I waited over a year on this truck to upgrade.

Thanks Burtman!!!

Also, M4ck, I see you have had them in for a while now, have you had any problems?

will the mcculloch kit hook up the same way?? i believe it hooks up directly to the battery.

Jaho1979
06-18-2007, 12:16 AM
It will have a wiring harness that hooks to the battery, goes to a relay and then to the ballasts. There should be a plug or something that attaches to your stock headlight plug, and also goes to the relay...this is the trigger for the relay to send power to the ballast. The relay will also need a good ground and I believe the ballasts do as well.

You can access your headlights by turning the wheels and unscrewing the front screw on the wheel well liner. You can then pull it back to access the back of the headlights. Right behind the headlights is a small shelf like area that is perfect for the ballasts. I used high strength velcro to attach these to that area.

Yes. I fully stand behind them and they are some of the best quality lights I've seen. 2 year warranty on ballasts, 1 year on bulbs.

If you want the fog kit, it's another full hid kit, just like the headlights, but for the fogs.

Nope, all plug and play... And you don't have to hide the ballasts under the headlight, Mack just chose to do it that way. You can put them ANYWHERE as they are 100% water/air tight.

Sale is still going, and they ship same day.
