Looks great man!!! Any difference in ride??

There is actually a huge difference in the ride. The truck takes bumps alot better. It is still difficult to tell exactly how well it rides since the alignment is still a little messed up. I have an appointment for that first thing tomrrow morning. I wanted to wait until the new tires and wheels were on, so I wasn't wearing out brand new rubber. The installation was moderately difficult and took around 10 hours (breakfast, lunch...and yes, locking ourselves out of the garage included). Although, I was suprised to see that the front passenger side strut was bad. As soon as we began to unbolt it, you could hear the gasses escaping. The rear driver side shock was also bad. I couldn't believe how easily I was able to push the rod in and out...so, just in new struts and shocks, it makes a huge difference. With the stock tires and wheels, the lift actually gave me 6" in the front and 2.25" in the rear. I will give my final evaluation after the alignment is done...

Looks really good. Are you going with bigger tires and rims?

Thanks. Yes, I actually just got the 33x12.5 Pro Comp All Terrain's on today, mounted on 17x9 Pro Comp Extreme Alloys. I took some pics, but have not yet had the time to post them. I tried the 35x12.5's that the kit said will fit, but they rubbed the rear of the wheel well when turning, so I went with the 33's. There is enough room, and look just as good as the 35's. I will post pics as soon as I get a chance, and then everyone can voice your opinions...

there's a 325/50/22 in AT which is equal to 34.8 inches.

I'm getting mine done mid this week.

I will have Kumhos. they also come in nitto and toyo. those are the only 3 in the game right now.

Putting the lift on was a pain, and I would rate the overall installation (on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the most difficult) an 8. The hardest part was the front. The rear went on in about 45 minutes. The overall performance of the ride qualities (again, on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the best), would be given a perfect 10. Handles great, the allignment went very well when I took it, handles the bumps very well, corners, etc. I have no complaints as of yet. The only thing I have to do is the reangle of the headlights, so they are not blinding people, but I have not yet had any flashers to say they are too bright. When the weather gets better, that will be my task.

Looks very good! This is something I have been looking for. This 4" lift has just amount of lift for me. As a bonus it looks good with the stock tire size. I don't want to go bigger than stock for tires because I want to be able to use my spare.

Do you know the overall height of your vehicle with the Rancho kit?

Street5927
02-01-2006, 11:12 AM
The overall height of the truck with the 33x12.5's is 81 1/2 inches, or 6'9 1/2". I don't know what the overall height was with the stock wheels. I was thinking of just putting the new tire size on the old rim and use it as a spare, but I thought I'd just splurge and get the 5th rim and 5th tire for the spare. You will love the ride and the look, though. I highly recommend this lift.

street, im in love with the rancho lift!! just wandering did it come with new shocks? was there many holes to drill? are the instructions pretty detailed? thanks for your info.....

The kit itself did not come with new shocks. They had to be purchased seperately. The kit recommends either the Rancho RS5000 or RS9000. I went with the RS5000. The fronts are struts and the rears are shocks. I am in the process of putting up some "in progress" pictures of putting the lift on. I took a bunch while putting it on and they should be on shortly. There were 4 holes to drill. There were two to drill for the relocation of the front differential (which had to be removed for installation of the cross members), and two holes to drill for the new bump stops. I will post the pics probably today...just keep an eye out on my pics page for them. Everything else that you needed came with the kit, including the new longer stainless brake cables.

are not the 33x12.5's the same size (in diameter) as the stock 285/17/70?

I am not 100% sure, but standing them side by side, the 33x12.5 looked taller. I believe the stocks are basically a 31 inch. The 33x12.5 are definitely wider, though.

so you must take the front diff out to install the kit?? thats a pain if so....

Street5927

In order to drill a hole for the new mounting position of the front differential, it had to be removed. It was not that difficult to remove. Having a lift to put the truck on made it alot easier. I think it would be MUCH more difficult to install this kit if you were just using jack stands, and the removal of the front differential was just one of the reasons why it was nice to have a jack stand. The other reasons were for drilling and installation. The purpose of repositioning the front differential is to keep the same angle of the drive shaft that it came with from the factory...no change of the drive shaft angle.

The stock 285/70/17's are considered a 33" tire. However, tire manufactures sizes vary drastically. My Nitto's said on the sticker - 305/55/20 (33x12.5x20) and they are a full 1" wider and taller than my buddies Dick Cepek 33x12.5x17's. Strange??

If you go on www.gorancho.com and click on suspensions and then click on the application. The installation guide will come up on adobe acrobat reader and you can view the entire instruction/installation booklet there. They are detailed steps. This is just one pic with the cross memebers installed and the front diff. re-installed.

OK all check this out. I found an EBAY link where this stuff is for sale really cheap.

I just ordered from this guy directly via telephone.

4" Rancho Kit shipped to door
- $1429 w/ RS500 rear shox
- $1640 w/ RS900 rear shocks

This is as good as any group buy and he still has a lot left. My local dealer quoted me $1850 for the Rancho with RS500. So this is a $400 plus saving I will get.

His phone number is:
1-866-922-0093

Here is the item I found on Ebay. But you don't have to use Ebay if you do not want to. You can order from this guy directly.
