Well I think I need to vent!!
I had my interview today, and I don't think they will hire me.I don't see why they wouldn't...is it because of how I answer some questions?....I work my *** off to get the certification and the results are just disappointment.
For those of you who work at human resource, what kind of things do u expect when u interview someone?
How they answer certain questions??For all you know they might be lying abt it.I am not good at talking and how to answer certain questions so I am disqualified because of that?

I have the same qualifications.
My background is good...only 2 driving violations
I didn't consume any drug/alcohol!
I Ace the test that they gave me
and yet they decided to say 'We will let you know because we have many people turn up for interview and we only select a few' while I saw the lady before me getting an immediate answer.

One more thing that pisses me off is some company who send their guys to talk abt their company, hiring and giving up applications.I submitted my applications a month ago.I went and ask them abt it today and the lady said'Oh I haven't review the applications.U might be called or u might not'

That is obviously stupid!!If u don't wanna hire at all,why bother sending ur guys to the schools and tell us that they are hiring!!

I am mad,disappointed and I feel dumb!

END of vent!

There's no reason to get an attitude, all I ask is that you keep it clean, and if that's more than you can handle than I will be more then happy to ban you. I don't think that's necessary but why provoke the issue?

Your frustrated about your job interview and wanted to vent, there's nothing wrong with that. Perhaps someone here has some helpful input for you and can help, that would be good too. Lets all of us keep it cool and clean.....My only request.

Now lets get back to the fun, shall we???

Ok people I just read this thread. Appears that things got a little outa control. Sorry it wasn't found sooner. I believe there was some joking that was taken wrong. Maybe it wasn't too nice of a joke. Please accept our appologies for not seeing it earlier. Guys please make sure you think twice before you post it can save a lot of hard feelings. Much easier to think again about what your saying and how someone might react, than it is to mend fences. Hopefully this will just be a bump in the road and we can all have a big group hug and carry on with helping each other out. Do remember also you new guys and gals. When people post things its easy to take them wrong. Lots of times people just make light of or joke about something without knowing that it may hurt someones feelings. I believe it was an attempt to be funny and was taken wrong. Not that you didnt have a right to be upset. If in the future you see something that bothers you or looks like it is offensive to someone just send a message to a moderator or myself. We will gladly look into it and see if we can help resolve the problem. That is what our job is after all.
Lets try to let this little problem go away and everyone enjoy yourselves.
thanks

Back to the intent of the thread...

While these situations can be discouraging, you just have to realize that there are things going on behind the scenes at every company that will be factored in when they go to hire folks. I wouldn't take a rejection personally unless history keeps repeating itself. Not knowing what sort of job you are interviewing for, I can't say specifically what the company was looking for. At my company, when you take case tests, they are not necessarily looking for the right answer, but are trying to determine if you have the ability to think and work through the problems. I work with folks that have MBA's and I'll put my community college and 12 years of experience against them any day. That brings me to my next point -- confidence and good attitude. You need to convey a confidence in your abilities and sell them what you have to offer. It's all about selling yourself these days. You can sell your friends on how great your Titan is, but when you think about it, are you selling yourself in such an easy manner? Don't get discouraged. Chalk that one up to a learning experience and move on. Best of luck and sorry for the long post...

Thanks talkslow..I was thinking of sharing this thing because I know most of y'all are mature people in this forum insted of some HS kid. As far as promoting myself, that's the problem I always have.Poeple told me I am the quitest person in class.I don't talk a lot especially to people that I don't know.

Perhaps I'm just mad because I've been working hard to get my cert..lost a bunch of friends, sleepless night, paid my own tuition fees from long hours work ect ect and the results are that I am jobless.Besides that I feel intimidated too.

I wish there's a class on how to teach me to response or talk during interview.

Another thing that you may not have considered ...

If the firm at which you were seeking employment, provides goods or services to the government ... be it federal, state, or local ...

They have to conform to certain EEOC guidelines ...

And ... as bad as it seems ... that doesn't just mean that you have to provide the same "opportunity" for employment regardless of race, creed, color, etc ....

It means that the "end result" must be in compliance ...

Ever wonder why the airline industry has so many young little girls flying those regional "Barbie Jets" around ??

It's so they can keep those 20 year Air Force veterans flying the big birds and not run into EEOC trouble ...

:D

What's EEOC btw??

EEOC = Equal Employment Oppurtunity Commission

My boy will get out of the USMC next month ...

He is a Aviation Rescue Firefighter, EMT, Paramedic, and CNA ....

And even with those qualifications ... and impecable training ... being a "twenty-something white male" ... he will face an uphill battle trying to find employment with a municipality because of EEOC guidelines ....

If he was a minority female ... he would be a "shoe-in" ...

trust me if u are a paramedic, they will hire u just like that. They are in need of paramedic in this industries. It's harder for EMT to find one since it's easier to be an EMT than to be certified as paramedic. As ur son to visit www.emsvillage.com

I wish there's a class on how to teach me to response or talk during interview. :cry:You just communicated to me that you have desire. If you made sacrifices to get the training then that means you at least are willing to work hard to accomplish what is important to you. I'm sure you know you can contribute and fit in somewhere. There are some good tips on this thread (somewhere among the dribble-drabble). I'll offer these: Take notes after each interview, include the questions they asked, the things they liked about you, the traits they are looking for, etc. This information should be used to prepare you for the next interview. Definitely check out the career advice center at Monster.com (http://content.monster.com) which has plenty of helpful information. Good luck to you.

I wouldn't get too hung up on that EO deal. I just hired a new person and I did so based on qualifications, experience, attitude, ability. I am sure that is what MOST employers do. They should, if they want their organization to succeed.

As there are a million (or more) individual situations/factors with each new hire, I can't really comment on your particular situation, as I don't know all the factors -- so I'll offer you my own personal experience.

When I was getting ready to get out of the Navy following a 23 year career, I had my first interview at a university near Washington, D.C. I totally blew it. I knew it when I walked out the door, and I sensed the lady that interviewed me -- really didn't like me, didn't see me fitting in with their little group.

I was also thinking on the ride home - "I really don't want to work there" based on the atmosphere and personal interactions I experienced while I was waiting for the interview, and during the interview. It just wasn't for me, and I am glad I didn't end up there.

I guess the point is -- this is a two-way street. You've got to be happy accepting a job with the company that offers you one. And having "former USMC, USN, USA, USAF, USCG" after your name/on a resume is a major PLUS these days. Trust me on that. I see it all the time.

Best of luck in your search. You'll find something.

By the way, what is your specialty/field of profession?

Any military bases around? If so, look into a "GS" position... just a suggestion. I wish you the best. - Jim

I work for the government and whenever new people interview for positions here we always joke that whichever of the interviewees is the "least white male" will get the job. I don't want to start a big EO fight here, because I believe in Equal Opportunity, I just think that sometimes it's taken too far. I think a company should be able to hire the most qualified person regardless of race, background, or gender, and with the way these laws are written that is not always the case.

Go to www.usajobs.com it is a great resource when looking for a job within the government. I believe most government jobs within your field would fall into the "WG" category and not "GS" but either would be a great place to be.
