: Fender Flares or Traction Bars???
Jster 02-17-2006, 03:16 AM Hello gents,
I have 4x4 w/6" lift and 35's and they stick out a little 2 inches. I want to take an offroad camping trip this spring. I was wondering would you get first, traction bars (because I want them) or Fender flares to protect paint from rocks kicking up? Of course I want both but wont be able to afford both for quite a while. I can only afford one at this time. Might be 6 months until I can get both. What you'all think?
rcantu 02-17-2006, 04:06 AM the bars should be your priority. I have them on road and they are awesome. to have them offroading will even be better. do you have mudflaps? I know you probably took them off if you have them. you can gut them to clear your 35's I did that and my wheels and tires are really wide. I will be getting flares soon though.
Dafridge 02-17-2006, 04:44 AM traction bars
QWIKWHIP 02-17-2006, 10:03 AM Hmmm, I partially disagree here. The traction bars are great, and should defenitly be something to plan on purchasing, but I would be more concerned about protecting the paint first.
Dafridge 02-17-2006, 10:47 AM not if it is lifted, the bars restore power and performance lost in the rear due to added height.
Net4n6 02-17-2006, 10:52 AM Another vote for traction bars. I have them and love them.
rcantu 02-17-2006, 10:54 AM he just wants us to support him on spending more $ :)
do the mudflap mod or slap on some blue painters tape for now. looks tacky but will protect your paint for now.
Jster 02-17-2006, 08:47 PM LOL... Blue painter tape? I appreciate your help. Whats the big deal on Traction Bars. This is my first Pickup and I dont know how they would affect 4 wheeling? Yet i've heard that I should slap some fender flares on if I'm going to high desert. Lots of rocks to be thrown there and stuff. Im torn. I do have Mudflaps though.
Thanks
Dafridge 02-18-2006, 05:27 AM cuz when you get the traction bars, you can go peddle to the metal with no axle wrap and get better than stock take-off. even with 35's. i go offroading all the time and definitely want flares after my lift but traction bars for sure will come before. once you get them you'll understand why.
Jster 02-19-2006, 04:09 AM Thanks for all of ya'lls help. I will make a decision soon..leaning towards bars now. :-)
docopharm 02-19-2006, 06:11 AM 1 vote for the flares! :D
Kingoftheroad 02-19-2006, 10:31 AM I say fender flares cause you can always buy traction bars. You need to protect the paints finish!!
Kopperking 02-19-2006, 07:30 PM Get Both!
Get the Flares, AND get a set of Jettech's "Cheap" Traction bars, http://www.clubtitan.org/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=810&highlight=traction+bars
until you can afford to get the Good ones that Greg makes!!
Welcome to the Club!!
Jster 02-20-2006, 02:29 AM wow that sounds great. Where's the instructions for the installation from here and not the ones that came with the helper springs? I have lifted 4x4 withe 35.s and I hauled rocks the other day and I loaded up and truck sag in back and made my front tires rub.
Kopperking 02-20-2006, 09:31 AM They're designed to be mounted on the rear half of the leafs, but we discovered if you mount them on the front half, they "Act" as Traction bars (Low profile Style).
I've got a set on my Titan, and I love 'em (and theyre cheaper than the "Real" ones)
But, My Titan is basically STOCK (4x2 w/Offroad), so they may not be Strong enuff for your application, but for 22-25 bucks, there's not much to lose.
-Just thought I'd "throw" another Option.

I appreciate all your help. I will get some this weekend and see how they work on 4x with 6 inch lift and 35's.
Cheers!
