: Front Diff Locking when Wheel Turned???

I just bought an ’06 CC 4x4 with Off Road pkg.

In 4Hi or 4Lo, when I articulate my steering wheel pretty much all the way clockwise or counterclockwise BOTH wheels want to keep turning under drive power!!!

If I’m in 4Hi and I turn the wheel and I’m just creeping, the truck will come to a halt; apparently due to the wheel that is having to travel the larger circumference. (I’m just guessing here.)

If I’m in 4Lo the outer tire will ‘hop’ (spin a couple of inches).

Does this mean my front differential is not opening and allowing the ‘binding’ wheel to not turn?

That is, is my differential locking when I articulate the steering wheel?

Does this mean my pinion angle is slightly off?

Is this a warranty repair issue?

Is this normal? Does yours do this too? If yours does or does not, let me know if you have the Off Road Pkg.

Help!

Thanks.

Are you doing this on pavement or on dirt?

my old chevy would do this on pavement. In grass it would just tear it up. I don't think it's a problem. But I'm not sure about the titan.

I'm doing this on pavement. I'm sure it will only do this on a hard dry surface.
I'm not really sure if it is the inner or outer wheel that's 'binding' when the steering wheel is turned.

When my steering wheel is articulated shouldn't my front differential open on the 'stuck' wheel and only turn the wheel that is easyest to turn?

Most 4x4's tend to bind a little when you crank the wheel all the way in either direction in 4wd. Especially on dry pavement. I think it just the combination of the front wheels pulling and the rear's pushing at the same time. I'd say it is normal.

It's normal...4x4 should never be engaged on dry pavement anyway.

Its normal my dad came and asked me about it when it happened to me. He came and said " I dunno whats up with the car but when i was using 4Hi in the rain, and i turned the car came to a halt". I was like hmmm so hes like you try it, so i backed up in 4Hi and i was in about 1/4 throttle and the car didnt move so i gave it a bit more and vroommm i was off in reverse.

x a lot.
Dry pavement and any type of locking differential is a recipe for breakage.
Read the little book that came in your glove box.
