: Tire Rotation
shailey 05-27-2006, 10:53 PM I believe that this will be a good lesson for everyone that does not already do this. I have only rotated my tires once. I just do not take the time to do it.
Yesterday, I had a horrendous time getting traction when it was wet and Slurppie pointed this out to me on Thursday and I knew it was coming I just don't like buying tires. Now the tires that I had on were Michelin Cross Terrain SUV's that have been on for well over 40,000 miles. Look at the tread on the first pic, then the 2nd. You will notice that with over 40,000 miles the depth of the first pic is still good (6/32's) which is over 50% tread. The second pic is 2/32's which is what I call, YOU BETTER REPLACE IT! LOL Guess which ones were on the rear.
If I would have rotated them properly, the tires would still be good and I would not have had to buy another set today. They would have probably gone the full 65000 miles that they are warrantied for. I am still amazed that these tires rode as good as they did because they are also slanted from outside to in. So I guess that we could keep this under the preventative maintenance thread and learn from my mistake. As if we haven't already. LOL I will post what the new tires are in another thread.
float_test 05-27-2006, 11:02 PM I rotate mine every 5000 and the best ive gotten is 40000 miles out of a set of Mics. I just got the Revos put on Friday we'll see how far i can
make them last. My GY's had fair tread left at 12000 no way i would have made 16000, those stock tires are'nt the best.
shailey 05-27-2006, 11:29 PM I went through 3 sets of goodyears in the first two months that i had my truck. They rode like doodie and I kept taking it back to the goodyear dealer to have them roadforce balanced. The store manager finally said, these are junk and I said lets do something else. 1 hour later...the Michelins (which I have had on every truck I have ever owned) were on there. Actually I always used the Michelin LTX M/S, great tire, it just was not available in my OEM size of 265/70/18.
float_test 05-27-2006, 11:42 PM 3 sets in 2 months did i read that right Shailey? Lol i dont feel so bad now!
And i can barely bark the tires.......
SniperT38 05-28-2006, 07:54 AM Do you have to get them balanced when you rotate them each time or can I do it myself?

I have rotated the tires once on my Titan & did not get the balance
checked & no problems.

I did not wear them out, they were riding like logs. I was bouncing all over the road at all speeds above 55 mph. Since I had already had one titan, I knew that the truck did not ride that bad, so when I would take them back, they would check the road force on them and they could not get them below 25 lbs. Which Nissan says they cannot be above 10 lbs., so the goodyear dealership was replacing them with new. Actually the 3rd set was never installed, they were used as a trade towards the Michelins.

I noticed that same thing when i bought my truck, i didnt know or didnt relize the stock GY were that bad but they were. I just put on the Bridgestones Rivo's the other day and i have a completly different truck now. I dont know how i drove it 12000 and almost a year ridding like that. I did however take it to a dealership near by and they said it drove fine, so figured it was the nature of the beast, but mine wasnt as bad as yours and some others ive heard.
shailey 05-28-2006, 07:18 PM A lot of people say the same thing when they get the first set of tires on there that are not the stock Goodyears. It becomes a completely different truck. then the ones that have the 17" tires and do not have the goodyears don't understand what we were complaining about. LOL
Kingoftheroad 05-29-2006, 12:44 AM My friend bought his truck new and it came with Good Year Tires, he did nothing but complain about those dang tires til he replaced them with a nice set BFGs. He couldn't believe the improvement in the ride & handling.
jtrich 05-29-2006, 04:40 AM I just turned 7000 miles on my truck and have been going round with the dealer about the way it drives. I had an 04 Titan before this one and it didn't drive half as bad as this one. They realigned it once and now I think it's got to have some front end parts bad. On the interstate it is a constant fight to stay in the center of the lane. Do you think the tires could be causing this? I am waiting to get pulled over and given a sobriety test.

shailey 05-29-2006, 08:14 AM If they are the stock Badyears it could be. I had 3 sets on my 2005 and float_test can tell you too, once those badyears were off of there, the truck became a new vehicle. Kingofroad's friend (post right behind yours) seems like he went through the same thingI knew that mine had to have been in the tires because my 2004 model rode very good and all of the sudden this one was on logs. Ask for a road force balancing and the printouts to see what they tested at and see what happens. If it is over 10 lbs then Nissan is supposed to replace them (if it is still under warranty).
Kopperking 05-29-2006, 08:53 AM Hey Slim_Shailey!
Those Tires aint showin' the wear markers Yet?!
You Still got a few miles left!! lol
I agree, you can't beat a set of Michilins, but my original Bridgestoners are Still keepin me between the lines!! (2 years/2 months - 19k miles!!):zunge2-big:
SniperT38 05-29-2006, 12:39 PM You guys are killing me! My Goodyears drive great, or so I thought. Now I hear that new tires make a HUGE difference!!!! I have to draw the line at modding somewhere, I will wait till these GY's wear out and then try something else. If I stay on this website I am either going in the poorhouse or getting divorced, or most likely BOTH!!!!

I agree the Bridgestones are great. That is what I had on my first Titan and at 47500 miles they still had tread, they still rode good and they still got traction. So I still had the originals on there when I traded her in. It was because of those tires I knew that the Titan was capable of riding better than what the badyears were providing.

You must be a "Newbie"?!! lol
Why do you think most of us have time to post?
We spent all our money on mods, we can't afford to Drive our Titans!!!
Welcome to Cub Titan! lol
SniperT38 05-29-2006, 04:01 PM I guess I will try to keep a happy median!!!!! THANKS!

That is why I just sold the Lightning...so I could pay for the upcoming mods as they are quite pricey. As much as I have spent in the last 5 months, my wife might finally start to notice the difference in deposits if I kept it up for 3 more. LOL
Yeh I need to rotate mine too. Gotta get a little more out of them before I get what I really want.

pewterpower 06-04-2006, 06:50 AM ok guys, whats the deal with goodyear tires that comes with the truck?
shailey 06-04-2006, 07:12 AM I think that they are the worst tires ever produced. They ride kind of like they are square. I feel sorry for a lot of people that take this truck on a test drive and think how bad it rides and it is all because of the tires.
Now some of the tires are obviously going to be good, I have just never liked a goodyear wrangler. They came on my Fords and the Dodge I had and I would have to buy new tires immediately. That is one thing that I think is great about Nissan, where the other manufacturers said, too bad...Nissan bought 3 sets of tires for this truck before I finally worked out with the badyear dealer to use them as a trade on another set of tires.
Jayson 06-04-2006, 07:33 AM Shailey, you have a great dealer! I fought with two dealers by me and finally had them agree that the Goodyear tires were bad. But they would not replace them. I had to take it to a goodyear retailer and have them do it. They cited the warranty book saying this. As I am looking at the banner in the service department that says so, my question to them was, "aren't you a goodyear retailer?" The service manager just looked at me and said " well yeah, but you gotta take it elsewhere to get warranty work." I HATE taking my truck to the dealer! I am on my third dealer and only had the truck a year.
shailey 06-04-2006, 07:49 AM I hate that you have had such bad experiences. I took mine to the Goodyear retailer too because my dealership is not a Goodyear dealer. Which did not bother me since I was getting new tires. But what I meant by Nissan footing the bill is because Nissan claims that any tire that balances anything more than 10 lbs of road force, they are out of specification, therfore replaced under warranty. Goodyear agreed to meet this specification when they took the Nissan contract and they have had a very hard time producing tires that meet Nissan tolerances when it comes to the large trucks/suvs. My wifes Armada had the Continental's, but her Quest has Goodyears and they actually ride quite well.
float_test 06-04-2006, 09:36 PM ok guys, whats the deal with goodyear tires that comes with the truck?
They are for astecics only IMO...........They may look nice but thats it.
I bought a explorer years back and made the dealer put michelin's on. That wasnt too hard to do since they were having that Firestone problem.
Bodean 06-04-2006, 10:51 PM Hi everyone, my name is Jeff and I am a mod-aholic. Don't judge me please, it is not something I can help. I believe it's in my genes. Anyways just yesterday I was caught hardwiring my DVD entertainment system into the factory radio. I don't know how it got to this.

LOL.....my wife said something to that effect when i mentioned sc...
SniperT38 06-06-2006, 07:28 PM My third kid is on the way, can I include another baby seat as an official Interior Mod??
utjon 07-01-2006, 04:51 PM I haven't really had any abnormal ride issues with my Titan, going on 800 miles and the goodyears seem fine. The truck does bounce around quite a bit but I figured that was just because of it being new. Drives straight as it gets, I can let go of the steering wheel and not have to adjust for a good distance (lol smart aren't I?). I am just wondering if there are any specific signs to them being bad, or if there is a way to have the dealer check without any cost to me. I definately want to get the most out of what I'm paying for =P
shailey 07-01-2006, 06:41 PM You bouncing around is one. This truck does not bounce. If I had not already owned one with the bridgestones on it, I would not have known the difference either.
