When I was buying my titan it was between a XE 4x4 and a SE 2wd. In the end power windows and seats won out, plus that sweet floor shifter. Now I’m in the coulda woulda shoulda stage, having taken my SE to play in the dirt every weekend this month. I’m wondering what other people have done do their 2wd titans to improve their off road capabilities.

I kind of wish I got 4x4 too but then again their is no where around here to 4x4 so I probally wouldn't have used except for that one or two times a year it snows. The biggest thing thing to improve a 4x2 or 4x4 for that matter would be to add some more aggressive off road tires and a true trac rear end.

TIRES!!! A good set of off-road tires will make your play sessions much more enjoyable. You'll just have the usual trade-offs, more noisy on the road, etc.

Bigger better rubber and a truetrac will make a huge difference.

My 2wd can go almost anywhere a 4wd can.

Kartmanaz... I didn't know you were sporting a 4x2. You are my new hero with the glass fenders and all. Love your truck!

True trac will make the biggest difference. 2 wheels spinning better than 1. 4 wheels spinning better than 2.

I agree with the others on the offroad tires. I take my 4X4 out offroading all the time and am amazed at how far I can go in 2wd before switching over to 4. My BFG AT's may spin a bit and I have to be careful where I stop if I'm in 2WD, but the darn truck goes places I never would have dreamed a 2WD could go.

Not too familiar with the True Trac, but from what I've read, it would be a great addition for you.

Having said that if you're going to go on trails of 3 or greater on a 10 point scale, you're better off going with a buddy with 4WD who leads. It really sucks getting stuck, particularly on a narrow trail where people behind you can't even pass to tug you out. A quick tug by your buddy up front and his 4WD and you'll be on your way.

John

Its real simple, spelled out like this (think Kartman will back me on this one) I too live in the AZ desert, and there are many forms of off-roading, but here are MY two fav's.

1) Prerunners, and their big brothers (see hyperlink below, a must see)
I don't have the $$ for one of these, but have been in a couple, and I think it would be a very close 2nd to a ride in a fighter plane.. Going thru a wash (with no road thru it at all) at 75 is the shiznit!! rollercoasters got nothin' on a trophy truck!! BTW most of these trucks are 2wd, only the multi-million dollar trucks are 4x4

2) Trail rides, especially on the rocks. an inexpensive 4X4 properly modified can climb ANYTHING (see attached photo of '93 JEEP YJ on rock face).

I did the 4wd rock ad mud trucks years ago, it was time for a prerunner.

Nothing like miles of whoops at 60mph

Thanks for the reply's guys. I'd like to make mine more like kartmanaz's. I think that driving fast over hills and trails is more fun than slowly climbing rocks.

Oh JohnCalifornia, pretty funny: The last time I went out I was following my buddy in his 99 chevy 4x4. He’s got it all set up for offroading and does it all the time. I ended up having to pull him up a hill that the titan got up like a champ. It was great!
