Anybody got any good ideas on where to install a CB radio inside the Titan?

Man...you are a truck driver...CB! I don't think I have heard this question before so it would be interesting to hear the resonse. I'm sure someone will sound in here. I'm sure some hunters or someone else have done this.

First off, Welcome to the Club!

Second, I notice you have the capt chairs. Do you have anything else in your center console? You could mount it there, like they have the DVD players mounted.

Just a thought.

It would fit there pretty good. However you would have to have your consol open to use it. Also I suppose you can probably use the AUX jack on your radio to hear the cb over the truck speakers.

You could do that and put a "mic jack" receptacle in the front of the console that way, it wouldn't have to stay open. Then again, it depends on how much you're really gonna use it.

whoops...

yeah I forgot I have a DVD Player too...

I tried it once as a "suitcase radio" (Rossi...know what that term means?) with a magnetic mount but it looked pretty ugly.

I've always used this, http://www.cobra.com/index.php?page=shop/flypage&product_id=5&id=1 and was able to mount the connector just about anywhere under the dash. This way, you can just unhook it and take the whole unit with you to keep from getting stolen.

Sweet, You don't have a '79 Trans Am too do you?

Or how about a '69 Charger? I just got the first two seasons of "The Dukes of Hazzard" this weekend. "I love it, I love it!"

If yours is small enough you could put it in the hole between the console and the shifter. Wiring may be harder than if you put it under the dash though.

lol!

i have a column shift so i wouldnt know about that. the hole needs to be about the size of a nickle for the connector to mount in.

I saw pictures of a CB installed on CarDomain.com. He had it mounted on the pasenger side of the center console, just next to the dual cup holder. Makes it stick out a bit and might be inconvinient for the passenger, but that's all I've seen.

I have a small one that I made a bracket for that just hangs over the edge of the center infront of my seat. That way I didn't have to screw in to it and take it out when I'm done.

Navy Cowboy 79. He's done a lot to his Titan. Looks good. Good shot of the CB. CarDomain.com.

I have the Corba 75 (Handheld Unit) which is not a problem finding some place to install but the kicker for it is another story.
I'm more concerned about mounting an antenna. I really don't want to drill a hole in the roof. Anyone have a CB antenna on their trucks?

Here's a month old bump MikeD
I'd like to know about antenna mounting too.

Here are some pics of my setup. Just hooked the antenna on the back bumper with a bumper clamp type mount. I had to cut out a small square of the plastic on the top of the bumper to let it sit flush on the bumper.

The little connection box for the radio is mounted on the side of the console under the driver's seat. I have a bench seat in front so I just tapped in to the wire going up into the console power outlet for the power.

I still don't have a place to hang the mic but will probably put it on the dash somewhere using velcro and a clip. It's still a work in progress. One other thing I have noticed is that I have a lot of electrical noise in the truck compared to my car. I'll have to get some kind of a filter to try and quiet it down.

Well...just an update on this topic.

Ive tried three different styles of antenna 2 magnetic and one clamp on the side mirror.

One of the magnetic antenna's flew off the roof of the truck, the other one didnt get enough reception and the clamp on antenna...had the best reception...but unfortunately with it clamped on the side of the truck it makes a LOUD wind noise,

Rossi...do you think angling the antenna like this / might stop that wind problem?

so...back to the drawing board..might try it on the bumper.

As for the radio...I just wired it into the cigarette lighter and placed it in the small area by the console.

I don't know why. You just made me laugh for a good 5 minutes straight. Maybe it's because I've been drinking beer in the sun, but you can't make that stuff up right there!

Oh by the way,

I put a mini sized Cobra DXIII, http://www.onlinesports.com/images/cob-c19-dxiii.gif

It's just a little thing, but it works very well if you take your time tuning it and get a good antenna and ground. I made mine removable with a small 2-wire quick disconnect plug spliced in the power line, and I just unscrew the antenna cable. The speaker is on the BOTTOM of the CB unit, which isn't a great place for my use. SO I mounted it vertically into the center console close to the seat (it fits great) so that the speaker faces the drivers door. It fits perfectly into the little "pocket" on the side of the console.

When you take it out, all you have is a small pigtail under the dash. :D

I thought about this also. I used to run a large export radio in my old Chevy, pushing into two amps for a total of 2000 watts output. I could talk to people in new York from Louisiana. I mounted the radio on one of those overhead shelves and had a headache rack for a big home built antenna. The biggest problem with putting a rig in a Titan is the antenna. The best place to mount the antenna is in the center of the vehicle. Mounted on the bumper will give you a directional effect. I don't want to put a magnet mount on my truck so I'm just stuck with out my radio. A cb really helps when on the road. You can find out anything you need to know. Truckers get lonely and want to talk to someone.

Hey Freightliner,
What brand of magnetic mounts did you try? I was going to try a Wilson and use some of that plastic finish protector but I didn't know if it would hold that well.

I used two Radio Shack antennas. One of them was kinda old and I dont think they make it anymore.

Wilson is the best magnet mount I have seen. A lil wil will work really good and is not very large, but a Wilson 1000 will work much better.

It's in Louisiana right next to Lafayette, which is the heart of Cajun country. We know how to have a good time, that's why I drive a Titan!

I replaced a K-40 with the Wilson 1000. I don't think I'd ever go back to the K-40. I think I'll take a look at their mag mount and see if it will work for my truck.

Not much room anywhere else:

You could put one where I put mine in the 4Runner.

No holes need to be drilled. I used velcro spuerlock™ from radio Shack. The stuff is amazing.
