What type of Rancho Shocks come with the off-road package?

If I remember correctly, when Greg Gagnon (PRG) removed mine to install the Fox's and Bilstein's he said they're a "special order" one made for Nissan. They carry the Rancho name but I think Munroe or some other name is stamped on them and they are the real manufacturer. Sorta like the Rockford Fosgate stereo made by Clarion or whoever. Nissan licenses the name. It doesn't necessarily mean that Rancho or Rockford actually manufactures the product.

Frankly, they are not very high quality.

John

Maybe so but they are better than the ones that come on the regular 4x4s.
i put them on mine and there was a big difference.
If you are looking to buy some, I bet PRG has a stack of them he would get rid of for next to nothing. That or you can post a "want ad" in the classifieds forum.

Yeah, I bet if you ask around you can get them for free from someone who has taken them off their truck. I advertised mine here first for a price (don't remember how much), then for free with no takers. This was the front and rear shocks including coilovers. Eventually, I tossed them in the trash. They only had about 3000 miles on them.

I offered them to Greg who said, "no thanks". He had plenty of them too.

Regards,

John

Rancho and Monroe are both part of Tenneco.

I agree with you about their quality.
The Rancho OEMs are fine for street and light off-road, (when new), but they are short lived. Due to their poor reliablility, down time, labor costs, or your own time as labor, they could end up costing you. I would suggest that chefboyrd move up to the PRG/Bilstein shocks for the rear, and for the front - the DRE coil-overs.

Along with the much greater off-road and on-road performance, higher reliability, and increased safety due to the much better handling of the DRE coil-overs and Bilstein rear shocks, it justified the expense for me.
Also, the lifetime warranty of the DREs means it is something I can count on long term.

I wasn't able to afford the DREs right away, but even just adding the PRG/Bilstein shocks, improved the handling significantly on curves.
Both shocks are listed at PRGproducts.com/titan_shocks.php

Would the standard Ranchos on the titan off road package be their standard RS 5000's. They do not seem to be the better Gas Pressurized types.
Anyone know for sure?

See #8 for question. This is a bump.

I am considering the cheaper RSX 9000s with adjustable valving front and rear. Cranked up to level the truck. I am concerned with the ride. I want stock at worst, softer prefered, as I will NOT be off roading in my truck. At least not like the old days.
