: Delivery of a dented truck
nswelton 08-04-2006, 08:15 PM Okay...
Some of what follows is due to my own lack of car buying expertise, but any suggestions you guys can offer up are greatly appreciated.
I traded in my truck for a new Frontier a few weeks ago. The deal ended after closing and I signed off on all the papers, etc, with delivery of the new truck the next day. Probably mistake 1.
The next day I picked up the truck and they pointed out a small dent in the rear passenger window frame that the detailer had found. They said they'd pay for it. I got them to e-mail me confirmation of this. I was excited about the new truck and didn't get too irate.
Now I've got a quote from a body shop on the fix -- $600. They have to take off the door, replace the glass, fix the ding and repaint it. The dealership will pay for this, but now that my initial new truck euphoria is fading, I'm a little peeved that I wound up with a dented truck that will have lower resale value and a non-factory paint warranty.
What do I do? I've had the truck 2 weeks, I live in Colorado and have put 1200 miles on it.
Thanks!
Rossi 08-04-2006, 08:34 PM Once they fix it you'll never know the difference.....and neither will anyone else. It's not like it's been totaled. I wouldn't worry about it.
It's got too be fustrating..but once the papers are signed....not much you can do really. You might be able to bug them for some free goodies.
JERDOG 08-04-2006, 09:09 PM Welcome lil bro.. I had the same w/my Titan, I bought it at night. 2 small dimples accross the hood marked on the fenders. They tried paintless removal and it worked for the most part, but I still see them. They offered to have it fixed, but IMO I would rather have a little dimple than paint that would fall off in 2 years. So they gave me a set of step rails, and a couple of hondred bucks to spend in the Nissan shop. JMO, a repaint will not last like a factory job, so look at the dent and see if you can live with it. If its really noticeable then have them do it other wise up to you. Nobody can see the dings in my truck til I point them out, JMO. BTW I really liked the Fron. I just could fit all my work stuff in it. Good Luck.. Atleast they're not saying its not our prob.
TITAN57 08-04-2006, 10:38 PM I'm not sure I understand. Did you buy the truck without seeing it?
corey-glowinstrat-strail 08-05-2006, 12:09 PM i think thats what he means
Kingoftheroad 08-05-2006, 12:49 PM Be careful !!! A newly painted door may not match the rest of the truck for any number of reasons. Living with a dimple maybe easier then the out come of a repainted door. We had at least one other member that had his truck repainted expecting a new "factory paint job" and what he got fell way short of his expectations.
TITAN57 08-05-2006, 01:10 PM you can't get a "factory" paint job once it leaves the factory. Two yrs ago I
had to get the fender painted (warranty) on a car. It was acceptable, but
there was evidence that it had been repainted if you looked closely.
Toomnymods 08-05-2006, 08:35 PM Guys you can achieve a way better than facotry paint jobs provided you take it to a place that knows what they are doing and use premium paint
PPG/Dupont not the cheap crap.. I'm a aircraft painter and I'm positive I could do a 10x better job than the factory did on my truck thier are runs/ sags in the corners orange peel all over the place.. Just talk to the painter/body shop owner and tell them you expect nuthin less than the best and anything else you won't pay for..
TITAN57 08-05-2006, 09:09 PM That is true in theory, but the problem with repainting a vehicle is disassembly.
The vehicles are painted for the most part before assembly. That's what I mean about
not getting a factory paint job.
Take a door for example. To get what I would call an original "type" of paint
job the door would have to be disassembled......handles, moldings, weather strip,
side mirror, upholstery etc.
I believe that most repaint jobs under warranty would be done with much less effort.
There are painters & paint shops that can give a better than factory paint
job..............for a price.
titan-ic 08-05-2006, 09:52 PM I prefer House of Kolor. Also, I work in a glass shop and we are the ones that pull the glass and moldings out for the body shop down the street. They do mostly insurance work but, they still pull all handles and moldings.

firecatbob 06-23-2007, 09:47 AM When I bought my 2005 Titan--I drove it 40 miles back home, and upon looking at my new truck the next day, I found a large dent in the front bumper--in plane view, that I never noticed until the next day. To this day it urks me, but not enough to fork over the cash for a new one--very pricey. If they'll pay for the repair--have them, and you'll be much happier
scr38 06-23-2007, 11:39 AM This thread is almost a year ago. I'm sure he has done something since then.
Welcome to CT!
Street5927 06-23-2007, 11:46 AM It seems like this is the 2nd "year old thread" brought to light in the last week or two...someone has too much time on their hands researching old threads and replying to them...lol.
Since there are some new replies (and since I have some time on my hands, here goes...)
I would never sign off on a truck until I check it out with a fine tooth comb. I did that with my Titan. They held all the paperwork until it was cleaned up and fueled up. I noticed what looked like tiny little scratches all over the finish and brought it to the attention of the saleslady. It wasn't scratches, it was the glue from the body wrap. She had the detailer take it and re-detail the whole truck again. I came back in about an hour and all the glue was off. I did, however, find one little scratch in the lower driver side rear quarter panel. The scratch was about 1/2" in length, not deep and hardly noticeable, but afterall, it was a brand new truck. She gave me a work order and a date to bring it in. They had it for one day, gave me a rental and the scratch was fixed.
Moral of the story....look VERY WELL before you buy.
