I'm wondering about clearance issues with the extra width. I know 285 is stock on OR 17x7.5s but I haven't been able to find the offset/backspacing for that wheel in order to compare w/ the 5" backspacing on my 18x8s.
I know we're just talking 1/2 inch per side difference at most depending on tread pattern, but would like to make sure there's no rubbing issues before buying.
I have no immediate plans for a lift but will be doing the JT spring helper mod which may slightly lower the rear.
I've searched and found some info saying it should work fine, but is anyone actually running this setup?
BTW, I'm really enjoying all the great info I've found here. I bought a motorcycle a couple of years back and feel like I've learned 10 times what I would have learned on my own thanks to the VTX owners forums. It's great to know that we have such a strong resource here for our Titans.
Best wishes and thanks in advance for any help you can send my way.
Kevin
Hey, ThereByAir, first and foremost, welcome to the Club. We have alot of good quality people here with info relegated to the modifications they deem best/ what they learn from other Titan members .Are you trying to put 285 65R18 on your stock 18X8 rims or what? This would only be 20mm+ in addition to stock tires but the profile would be somewhat wider and taller. I would get with the local tire/wheel shop . Ask them a few questions regarding backspacing/diameter/width and let them know you plan to install a JT spring helper with this. They will let you know what your options are.
Just my 2 cents worth.............hope it helps. :)

Thanks for the info and the welcome, Mick.
I'm hoping to be able to hang on to the stock 18" rims for a while. If my math is right, the 285/70/17 (stock Off Road) has identical width and is about 0.1" shorter than a 285/65/18 (BFG A/T). But like you said it will be 20mm (3/4") wider than my stock 265s. It'll come down to the difference in backspacing between the 7.5" wide O/R wheel and my 8" wide wheel. I can't seem to find what the backspacing is on the O/R wheel. Which even if I knew it would give me a headache trying to compare since the wheels are different widths, lol.
I was just hoping that someone else had tried it already.
The strangest thing is how much rambling I'm doing over 3/4".
Thanks,
Kevin

I'm no expert by any means, but I cannot foresee you having any problems with a 285/65-18 on factory ride height. Especially since you have a 4x4 and that has more height on the front end than my 4x2 OR does with its 285/70-17's. I know there are guys on the forums running bigger with factory 4x4 height and even larger with a PRG kit and the OEM 18x8 wheels.

I agree! Go for it. You shouldn't rub at all. See my signature. I only rub ever so slightly at full lock and the tires are 40mm wider than stock and .6" taller. And you have a 4X4 to boot which is probably the same height as my 4X2 with the PRG in front.

Thanks to all for the replies. After more reading, leveling the front is starting to sound good, too. Just gotta make sure I can still clear the garage door.
Best wishes,
Kevin

Hey,
I have 285 60 18's on 18x9 rims which come nowhere near rubbing on my off-road. I think 305's would even work, and the 9" rim is wider than most aftermarket offerings (8.5" seems more common)
