I did the complete oil change on the garage floor, no ramps. I'm 6' at 190, so that gives you an idea. Another 2" in lift wouldn't have hurt though. Next time I'll place a 2 x 6 piece of wood on the floor to drive up on for an additional 2". Oh, make sure you have a good socket type filter wrench or at least a big frickn screwdriver. The factory filter was put on by some prehistoric ape on steroids.

As stated above, no need for ramps. What is a standard lock oil filter?

If the truck was up on ramps I could do jumping jacks under there. Ditto on the factory filter. I swear they used a freaking neumatic air hammer on that crap. I broke my plastic filter wrench on it and ended up using 2 foot long channel locks to get it and it was still tough.

Make sure you can get the filter off before you drain the oil.

If you are in the Tampa area where it is warm and you could easily see some hot oil temps due to the climate and not have to worry about cold winters, 10w30 synthetic lube like Mobil 1 would be a winner. Take that money you save by changing your own oil and put it in a nice oil. Synthetic comes factory fill on many new cars and can be used immediately. Especially when you've had your truck for a few months.

Everything else you need to know is in the manual.

If you have ramps available, use them. I'm a little bit bigger than sudden urge and while I could get under there with little problem it would have been nice to have a little bit more room. This truck looks higher than my Grand Cherokee did but once I tried to crawl under the front of it, I realized it was not. If you don't have ramps, no need to run out and buy some, there is enough room to get the job done.
Spend a few extra dollars and get a good oil filter, just my opinion.
As others said, if it is your first oil change getting the drain plug and filter off will be a b*tch, they are on there!
You will need to remove the skid plate to get to the oil filter, be prepared for that. Don't recall the correct wrench size.

I didn't have any problems with my oil filter. Then again, I took the advice of a few on here and purchased a Honda Gullwing filter wrench from my local Motorcycle dealer. It fits like a glove and no hassle at all.

Can you do it without ramps? Sure. But, using my Rhino ramps I got from Walmart makes it so much more comfortable and easier.

I didn't have any problems with my oil filter.

You're lucky. I dang near bought another Titan to chain to the filter so I could pull it off.

A question just came to mind. When I change my oil I do it in the garage for a couple of reasons one of them being its a level surface, unlike my driveway. Will having the front of the truck up on ramps allow all the oil to drain out?

The oil pan sump and plug is in the rear of the pan, so being up on ramps does not hinder draining (it probably helps).

Very little oil sits in the actual pan after you drain it, extra oil can be found in the actual oil pump and in the form of a residue on the surface of the engine internals. If you want to get a little extra oil out. Leave the filter out, turn the key but don't hold it long enough to start the engine. I think the engine starts on the 3rd turnover. Do that once or twice and you will be amazed. You will have room for almost another quart.

It takes a 10mm

I just did my 2nd oil change @5500 miles. First one was a freebie at the dealership @1400 miles. I lucked out and they didn't overtighten the filter so I was able to remove it with my bare hands. I have a strong grip and big guns :)

I hand tightened the heck out of the new filter so hopefully I'll be able to get it off w/o a wrench next time.

I also used a jack on each side to give me a few extra inches.
