: Aftermarket Differential Cover.
Red Alert 03-14-2005, 04:43 AM Mag-Hytec is marketing an all aluminum finned differential cover with a few twists.
It has a magnetic drain plug, a dipstick for checking fluid level and a lube reference plug. Increased fluid capacity.
Black Powder coated with all stainless hardware. O-ring sealed. Also the inspection port and drain port are MS fittings. These are MIL-SPEC O-Ring sealed plugs which are far superior to pipe threaded fittings.

The ad says they make 'em for Dana 44 series axles. I haven't called to see if they have a unit to fit the Titan yet.
FYI!
With all the rear end problems the Titan has experianced, I would think very hard about putting on an aftermarket cover. You don't want to give any amunition to Nissan to not cover warranty!
Red Alert 03-14-2005, 10:27 AM Bixl....What an odd comment you made! I'm perplexed. All the talk on this list of folks putting on aftermarket brakes, giant wheels, spring helpers, different air intakes, air filters, oil filters, oil grades and who knows what else, and you choose to single out the differential cover as a possible warrenty problem????
I just don't get it. Here is an item that affords greater fluid capacity, more effectively captures magnetic wear particles, easier method of checking oil level and is made in a similar manner to the '05 version in that it is aluminum and finned for additional cooling and you warn the Forum about unisng it.
Please state your reasons why this product, which I have no commercial attachments or concerns with, should be put on the "Warning Folks LIst????
I'm looking forward to your response.
Any aftermarket item that can be linked to a failure can void warranty. With the large number of rear ends that have had problems, putting an aftermarket cover on can give Nissan a weopon to do just that. That is why so many are waiting for the OEM aluminum cover, rather then going aftermarket. You know, and I know that the cover is of better design, but the fact that it is not OEM, and the history of rear end problems, could cause people problems warranty wise.
I am not saying that for a fact the dealership would use this tactic, in fact I really don't think I would have a problem with mine. I have a very good dealership, and have a good relationship with them. Not everybody does. I put that warning out just so people know what they COULD come up against.
Red Alert 03-14-2005, 10:44 AM Bixll...
I guess I was just surprised at your singling out this item.
Like I mentioned with all the brake rotor warping issues, people have used aftermarket pads and rotors....no warning from you that I can recall. If you did warn them; then I stand corrected.
On the other hand:
I guess some things in life just aren't ment to make sense.
When guys change out their brake systems, I would think it would be pretty obvious that they could no longer get warranty repair on their brakes!
Just for future reference ANY part that is replaced that is not OEM can be deemed by the dealer as NO LONGER COVERED. I believe Bill was just trying to let you know that it may be easier to wait for an OEM offering then they would not have ammo to use against you should your rear end go out. I have an aftermarket Intake which I know if I have a problem with I am on my own. The dealership will not cover it. Should it cause a problem with the engine then that too is no longer covered. I also have a custom exhaust I know that if it has a problem I have to take care of it myself the dealer is not going to cover anything that has been modded or that has gone bad in direct relation to a mod I have made. I believe BiXLL was just letting you know that with all the rear end issues out there you may want to double think this through. He was only trying to help you not hurt your feelings or put down this mod. In fact I am sure there are many out there who really dont care if it voids a part of their warranty. But just in case its a good idea to let people know. It has been discussed when talking about other mods and I'm sure if you looked really hard you would see where warranty issues have been discussed before.
your comments and posts are welcome just as anyone else's are. thats what makes a forum a great place because everyone gets an opinion.
Dont feel singled out because thats not the case.

TheSquid 07-02-2006, 12:03 PM So has anyone put one of these things on? I was just looking at this site and I'm intrigued. (By the way I have over 67,000 miles on my truck so I'm good to go).
With the new differential covers, you can increase the fluid capacity, you will find that the fluid will run 15 to 20 degrees cooler. Cast in A356T6 aluminum covers feature increased lubricant and cooling capacity, and are equipped with a magnetic drain plug, 1/8 NPT temperature sender fitting, lube reference plug, and a magnetic dipstick for checking fluid level and condition. Dipstick, drain, and reference plug are MS 33649 and fitted with AS 568 O-rings, as is the cover gasket, which requires no sealant or gasket. All hardware is stainless steel, and the cover is texture-powdercoated in black.
Here's the site (http://www.drivetrain.com/differentialcover.html), it is a little more ($255) than the OEM but it's also nicer. I think this might be a great addition to the tru-trac.
That is very nice! Yet another mod to save up for!
Bentleyguy 08-28-2006, 07:26 PM Their website now lists the Titan rear diff cover for $250. It's a shame that Nissan is so tightly engineering this part that failures are even discussed. The rear diff has "almost" always been a part that you don't have to worry about.
LDOTITAN 08-28-2006, 07:35 PM Another blast from the past thread, but a worthy one. Those covers look awesome, but not worth the $250 for me.
RIDER 08-28-2006, 07:44 PM Here's some pics of them installed: http://www.titantalk.com/forums/titan-engine-transmission-drivetrain/40005-mag-hytech-diff-cover-finally.html?highlight=mag+hytec+differential+cove r

Speaking of termites, did you know your Axle seal is leaking?
markislive78 08-30-2006, 02:57 PM wasn't leaking they didn't wipe everything down good after trutrac install...collected dirt. She's good/clean now no leaks!

eat111 12-03-2006, 11:56 AM In trying to make the risk/reward analysis, are there any advantages of the Mag-Hytec cover over the '05 OEM version?
