How much work would it be to go from the XE single CD stereo unit to an OEM six CD player with aux jack? Is it a lot of work and what is the damage to the wallet gonna look like.

I would like to be able to use both my XM roady2 and my ipod without having to switch everything out all the time.

I don't believe that any of the factory CD decks have RCA jacks. I also don't think it's worth the money. I have seen several of those 6 disk factory systems for around 220-250 range on ebay. I have heard that they are junk along with the baseline system. I have an Alpine 9851 which I got from best buy that is XM, Sirius and IPOD ready.
The deck was $251 and the adapter kit was $40 from Cruchfield. You do have to buy the Ipod converter for $99 at bestbuy to use it with the deck. Even so the sound quality, look and overall performance will be tons better.

If you convert over to the 6 disk, you'll still need to buy a new radio bezel which is around $42. You will also have to install a LOC or line output converter in order to set up an amp if want to do that in the future. I do think that the Ipod will work in the Aux config. There may be some guys here using it with the 6 disk player.

Just my opinion but getting an aftermarket system is the best and most cost effective way. By the way the Alpine 9851 matches the interior perfect. The dark khaki and gray face are an outstanding match for the Titan.

If you change out the OEM 6 disc deck with an aftermarket one, do you give up the use of the "voice over" from nav, the RDS, the auto volume control, the direct cable XM and all the other stuff that is already part of the existing system.

I would love to upgrade to a very high end deck, but I do not want to lose any of the bells and whistles that I currently have. I have decided that perhaps the Rockford Fosgat deck is good enough and that I will spend a five spot to get a good 400 or 500 watt amp, and about 600 to 700 on some infinity speakers. It will be loud, but more importantly, it will be CLEAN.

Has anyone traded out their OEM deck (on an '05 LE) with an aftermarket unit and retained all of the features? That would be a great post to see....

It's my understanding that you would lose the Nav capabilities. I think replacing the amp and using a loc with new speakers is your best bet. I learned alot on the TT board, lurking and reading all about the stereo stuff for the Titan. I had the same intention, I wanted more than anything a clean crisp sound. I love my set up, it feels as though I am next to the band.

Simply,
Thanks...I suspected you would lose the Nav "speak over" functions...my Titan is supposed to come in this coming Tuesday (March 22, 05), so I will listen to the Rockford Fosgate unit and try to tell if one of the new Alpine amps with some Infinity speakers will stay clean.

You mentioned you had a 6x9 under the seats, is that the rear seats and what does it do?

I have two Alpine type S 6x9's in boxes from Scosche (Wal-Mart $13) connected to a two channel Alpine amp. I read on Crutchfield.com reviews of the Alpine's and opted to try them. They are as good as advertised. Very good clean bass response. I bought them on Ebay for $49 NEW! This guy who sells them is awesome. It came from Cali to Virginia in a week, well packaged and it was oustanding service. Considering these sell in the $119 range at Best Buy and Crutchfield, they are a great price.

I have read alot about the RF systems and the general thought is the amp is way too underpowered.
I like your idea of disconnecting the stock amp and running a good four channel amp under the drivers or passeger seat through a loc and replacing the door speakers. It has been warned that just replacing the speakers first is a BAD idea.

I can only be of so much help as I replaced the head unit in mine. If you want to anything else feel free to give me a shout, I love talking about this stuff!
