: Titans offroad having fun - Pics
JohnHarden 09-16-2006, 11:27 PM Three of us from this board (and the other) got together today with a Tacoma and Ram for some fun here in SoCal. Had a blast. 25 mile trip down the Rincon Trail from Angeles Crest to Azusa, then into the Azusa Canyon, OHV area and back to the mud pits.
We had one sanfu during the Rincon where the Ram lost some traction and got halfway off the side of the cliff face and we had to get him back up. Complicated maneuver where we had straps on him front and back, plus a heavy rope from the top as leverage and we winched forward slowly to get him out. Took 2 hours to pull off and we elected to get everyone out of the vehicle, put it in neutral and steer it with a rope tied to the steering wheel.
Actually, kind of knarly and a good lesson why you should always come prepared. For this one recovery, we used a 30' tow strap, 50" of 7/8" tow rope, two - 10' tow straps, a tree protector, 50' or so of winch line to pull everything forward and probably 10 shackles or so.
A good time was had by all. I'll post more pics as well.
Regards,
John
ChicksDigEmToo 09-16-2006, 11:29 PM OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH you forgot to invite me!!!!! Looks like fun!! Thanks for the excellent pics again!
JohnHarden 09-16-2006, 11:34 PM After that it was off into Azusa, OHV area and straight back to the mud pits. Here's some great photos of Casey's Titan, a couple Rams, including one who got stuck bad. I had to winch him, one other guy and myself out of that same pit over the course of a few hours.
I got stuck up to the bottom of my door and had to hook up to the back of a Ram and winch my self out. I made it through on a second try using better throttle control. The other two Titans made it through on their first try using their Mud Terrain tires. With my BFG/AT's, I aired down to get some flotation, but still couldn't match the knarly grip the MT's had on the other Titans.
All in all, we had a great time, though we all wound up with absolutely filthy trucks.

John
ChicksDigEmToo 09-16-2006, 11:38 PM OMG...did you check your air box??? I'm reliving my nightmare! Very very cool pictures!
JohnHarden 09-16-2006, 11:43 PM The CAI had the drycharger (waterproof sock) on it, but still managed to get a little residue of dirty water on the MAF sensor causing it to act up on the drive home. Truck didn't want to exceed 2000 rpm's. I put a spare filter on it and washed the motor down good. It was absolutely filthy under the engine cover. I'll pull the MAF sensor and wipe it down tomorrow. Time for an oil change tomorrow anyway, so this will be cheap insurance.
I got stuck BAD and was spinning both forward and reverse. My tailpipe was totally underwater for about 5-10 minutes while they figured out a creative way to reach me to get me out without anyone having to get into the 3' deep mud. The truck never did though and I wanted to keep it running to ensure pressure was exiting the tailpipe to keep water from getting inside.
It was a blast!!!!!

Blue_Water_Rush 09-17-2006, 08:47 PM That reminds me of the days we used to go back to Hidden Lakes here in the Jersey pine barrens. They had this one puddle that was notorious for eating trucks. It was called "Lake michigan". I did a lot of walkin' after attempting that one several times, to hunt for someone to pull us out.
Nismom 09-18-2006, 12:18 AM Looks like fun! I can't wait ot get mine hella muddy! :D

How did the dodge end up that far over? Was he avoiding the trees on the other side??
Hazertmed 09-25-2006, 11:45 AM Great pictures, looks like you guys had a blast. Good thing the Titans were there to pick up the slack of the Dodge.
