: Extang RT
PowerT 03-17-2005, 12:54 PM This is not a general question about bed covers. I'm asking specifically about this http://www.truckaddons.com/Catalog/subpages/extangbedcoversRT.asp. I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with this particular model. Are you happy with it...any problems, etc?
I've got one on the way. One of the reasons I like it is because I eventually want rails on my truck...the Extang RT (Roll Top) is compatible with rails.
CaptainBay3000 03-17-2005, 02:04 PM You know, I have a Truxedo Lo-Profile and after looking at the pics in the link you posted, the Extang looks exactly like mine. Even the clips that secure it when it is rolled up look the same.
I think you will like it, I am pleased with mine. The only thing is they limit how you can use the upper utilitrack rails. It's not a big deal for me.
PowerT 03-19-2005, 05:35 AM That's good to hear and thanks for the reply.
cerealkiller2 03-19-2005, 06:39 AM I have an Extang RT, ordered mine from Autoanything.com ($319.99) free shipping! I also found an online coupon for $10 that somehow got doubled, took my total down to $280.
As for the cover its great! My only problem is mine leaks a little, buts its due to the fact that I have the drop-in bed liner. The rubber that seals out the rain just doesn't fill the crack in the corners, left by the drop-in bed liner, so the rain runs in a little near the cab. My plan is to put some weather stripping or (something) to fill in the gaps of the bed liner.
If you have any other questions give me an email

$280!!! You gotta great deal. Mine was $315, but I don't feel bad because their are some sites selling them @ $350, $380, >$400. :?
That was one of my concerns...fitment with the drop in liner. Thanks for clearing that up. I'll pick up some extra weatherstripping before I install it, thanks for the tip.
Another concern I had right after I ordered was I remembered some brands I shopped were designed to mount via the (optional) utility track. I do not have this option, so I contacted Extang to inquire about it...they said I was fine, no utility track needed.
Rossi 03-19-2005, 09:27 AM I was expecting something about a Mustang......but I do like the camper shell.
cerealkiller2 03-19-2005, 07:10 PM Extang claims that the cover will not work with over the rail bedliners, (which we have) but if you open the clamps a little while your installing them it will work! Its a little aggravating, but do-able. I also realized $320-($10x2) doesn't add up to $280. I had a type-O. Sorry!! But, I did get the cover for $280.
Not only do I have the drop-in bedliner, but I have the factory bed rails also. An there is no problem with fitment with the rails, so go ahead and order a set of tie downs like this if you want!

Just a little tip!
Next time you order anything online do a quick search for online coupons from that site! it helps save money for your next mod!! :D
PowerT 03-21-2005, 07:02 PM Installation went well. There's some manufacturing dust on it that I didn't think would show up so well in the pictures. It's DONE!!!!

First the grill and now the bedcover...
Two things that I must now put on my growing mod list.
Looks good PowerT

PowerT 03-21-2005, 09:16 PM Installation was an easy 30 minutes. I could do it again in less than 15. As for leaks, Cerealkiller2 has more experiience with the Extang and posted this:

I'm not sure about leaks with mine yet, but I'll keep an eye on it since I have the drop-in bed liner. As stated above, it can easily be taken apart to add some weather stipping if need be...no big deal.
RAWCCD 03-21-2005, 11:26 PM Not being critical... Is your cover a little loose? Do you have to let it lay out for a while before you tighten it? Maybe it's my eyes... Does it look loose to anyone else?

Good point...I don't know because I've never had one before. There is a tension adjustment, but I haven't messed with it yet. As you stated, I was going to let it lay a while before I adjusted it. How tight are they typically supposed to be?
CaptainBay3000 03-22-2005, 11:51 AM Mine is a Truxedo but basically the same thing. In the instructions that came with it it said to tighten the tensioners when it had been out in the sun for a while. I guess the material loosens when it gets hot.
If you tighten it too much you can tell that the back is hard to close. I just tightened mine up until it started getting difficult and backed it off a little.

Well spoken, Cap'n!

I have the Access Roll-Up cover and I also have the drop-in bedliner and mine also leaks at corners. I have 1/4" weather stripping and I bought some 1/2" to replace 1/4" and see if this solves my problem.

It rained here yesterday and mine leaked. To be honest, I never really expected a soft cover to be water tight in the first place. Because of the groves on the bottom of the drop-in liner, the water stays at the edge, so it's really no big deal.
Rossi 03-23-2005, 12:01 PM Boy my bedliner sure don't leak!!!!! I backed up my drive way the other day. Then it rained all that day and night. Went out there this morning...I could have gone fishing in the bed of my truck!! I was shocked it was so full. It needs drain plugs going from the font corners through holes in the bed. The bed may already have holes...not sure.
