: If I had $500 to spend, what would you suggest?
Methuselah 03-17-2005, 02:47 PM I've had my Titan for a few weeks now and have gotten used to the horse power...so it's time for another fix :)
It is completely stock, 4x4, Big Tow, Off-Road, Crew Cab. What would you suggest I buy with $500 to get the biggest performance gain?
Thanks
TheGoose 03-17-2005, 02:50 PM get an exhaust and a K&N drop-in to start with...
JetTech 03-17-2005, 02:57 PM I would start with a cat-back exhaust system for around $400, just pick a system that suits your audible needs.. :D
A Throttle Body Spacer can be had for about $100 and then you can pick up a K&N drop in filter and modify your airbox.
After all that wears off 8) go with a CAI, most kits run anywhere from $180 to $250.
Hopefully others will chime in here with their ideas too but good luck with whatever you decide.
PowerT 03-17-2005, 03:14 PM Funny you asked. I just dropped $509.00 last night on a bed cover and grill inserts. But I've already purchased the CAI and Exhaust.
Sound >> performance >> Looks. One mod that accomplishes all three is the Exhaust, which happens to be my first mod, being installed tonight. 8)
Good Luck and have a good time shopping.
Caltitan 03-17-2005, 03:31 PM I'm sure the consensus will be to go with an exhaust. As a cost example, my Flowmaster American Thunder dual kit was ~$417 shipped from summitracing.com. Install can be done by yourself with normal tools. There are other engineered or custom systems that you can get for less. Air box mod is a free do-it-yourself job with a little performance gain. For non performance mods, consider a tonneau cover. My Truxedo Lo Pro was between $400-$450 but not sure of exact price as it was a birthday gift.
drmstlr66 03-17-2005, 05:10 PM I'd have to agree with everyone so far, but it all comes down to...what do you want to do. Do you want more horsepower, do you want better response, do you want it to look better, a better sound system? You may want to do all those, I know I do. Figure out where you want to start, and then you know what to look for. Plus it will save you a lot of time going back and forth trying to figure out just what to get.
del-perro 03-17-2005, 06:24 PM PRG Level Kit.
QWIKWHIP 03-18-2005, 08:00 AM I would also say an exhaust, with a PRG leveling kit right behind that. :D
PowerT 03-18-2005, 08:33 AM More specifically, if you're interested in getting an exhaust with a budget, take a look at the Gibson single back. It's cheaper than a dual (less than $400), leaving more $$$ for another mod. It also yields more performance and, though it's not quite as loud as a dual, the deep rumbling sound is very good, obvious it's not stock.
I just installed mine last night with basic hand tools: http://www.clubtitan.org/posts2015-15.html
Methuselah 03-18-2005, 10:02 AM Thanks for all the replies so far.
To be more specific, I'm looking for more "off the line" power.
Thanks

 I'd rather not void my warranty just yet...
madeye 03-18-2005, 09:35 PM I have to agree with JT. My first mod was k&n drop in filter, didn't notice much until the air box mod. Definate throttle response difference there. Then next was Gibson single side. $375 (aluminized) shipping included. These two things, very impressive. Am playiny with Throttle body spacer and stop watch, looks good for throttle body. $600 ought to do it. But just my opinion.
godofspeed 03-18-2005, 11:55 PM you could always chip it. But I would go with a exhaust system and a intake.
BillyH 03-19-2005, 11:00 PM CHIP?...who's got a chip avail?
the_head 03-20-2005, 07:32 AM JET does (I think) but it is an inline thing. Most of those don't work. I haven't heard of anyone running one yet, but it has been advertised by them for a little while now.
Bang for the buck? Nitrous.
Want some low-end gains? I'd go with the Volant airbox.
Sergeant_Titan 03-20-2005, 09:55 AM Well if I took your topic title literally, My first inclination would be to donate it to the Sergeant_Titan truck improvement fun, but I know what you really mean, so I cant say that
I asked the same kind of question and looks like all of the resident folks agree, with the Volant and exhaust, and who am I to doubt there expertise. Ol Sarge is going with the Volant first, just as soon as the supply gets replenished
