Sorry guys this is my first truck and I dunno squat about these things.

I think it's when I tire is big and rubs the fenders, so a trimming is done. I'm curious to know exactly what it is also.

Don't feel bad. I've been here for awhile and I'm not totally sure what it is. I know the guys with biggers tires have to shave the pinch weld. Thats about all I know to be honest. Hopefully someone will chime in with an answer for both of us.

Wow, I don't think I will be putting larger tires on with just my leveling kit. That is a little too involved for me.

ummm.....its the easiest mod yet! If I can do it....

Its just a little scary cause you are cutting into your truck.

There is a pinch weld underneath the fender liner that rubs larger tires at times. Some people bend it back but I prefer to sawzall it. The red area is what is cut off

I can't see the pics, all it shows is a white box with a red "x". Are you guys saving the pics as a "JPEG"? Those are the only files I can see at work.

I'll do the pinch weld mod on my crew cab in the next few weeks with new pictures to illustrate what you're doing.

Basically, you want to remove a little bit of the steel on the back side of the fenderwell. How much to remove depends on how big your tires are and how much clearance you really need.

I think I rather have 35s. I wouldn't want to cut anything on my truck. I'm already upset at the fact that I had to make holes on my roof for those clearance cab lights I have.
I think 325s look good with bigger wheels, not 17s.

Oh ok, that doesn't look bad at all. I though it was the exterior sheet metal you had to cut, but that inside one won't even show that much.

Great stuff guys. Thanks for all the pics. Believe it or not my MT's are so wide (actually BS is too grand) that I have no other recourse but to perform this mod. Even with my FoxCoils/Deavers and Bilsteins I am still getting a slight rub. Once I perform this mod I should be out of the woods.

I am just glad it will all workout in the end, because I like the wide tire look T has at the moment and refuse to give up the tire wheel combo (lol). All the pics were good, however, Bill, I gotta thank you for finding yours.

How long ago was it I told you, you still needed to do the pinch weld mod????

You put your inner fender back on, and you will never see the cuts you are making. The pinch weld that needs cut is behind the inner fender, and the bottom underside of the fender.

You can reform the plastic with a heat gun if you don't like the way it looks.

I must admitt that I truly thought I would have zero rub when I went up that extra 2.5" - 3" with the Coils & Deavers ... but I still have a tad bit of rub. Therefore, this is another mod on my list ..... but I won't post it in my lsit of sig mods for the sake of not having any more room to list it (lol).

Gotta admitt, Bixll was ALL OVER it !!! LOL

Holy crap thats a lot of work. I spent about 5 minutes to do it with a sawzall.

LOL, there is no way you could have cut near as much away or picked up as much room as I did in 5 min! That weld is some THICK stuff, those notches took time even with an air grinder! I must admit that I took all I could, as I wanted to get the most room I could without having to go back and redo it!

Don't know one is better then the other. I used the grinder because I wanted to get all the way down on the weld and did not want to worry about a blade flopping around. If you have both, I would grind with a cut off wheel, if not use your saw. I would not go buy a grinder just for this job, you could use either one.

Can I unbolt my grinder wheel off my workbench and grind it with that ?

JK, I do wish I would have cut you loose on mine when you were over at the house. Next time I will have mods waitin for ya (lol)

No, a cut off wheel is real thin, your bench grinder wheel would be way to thick, you would be grinding forever!

Nah. Red didn't heat any plastic on hers.

Penguin used a grinder too. I would think it's easier to control than a sawsall.

Well if you don't heat and remold the plastic inner fender, you have not gained anything??? You will still rub the inner fender, just won't have the metal behind it! I hate the sound of the tire hitting the plastic inner fender, especially at higher speed turns, sounds terrible!

I dunno. She put everything back where it came from, and the tire magically didn't rub at all. I was all ready with my heat gun and everything.

Thick or not the Sawzall goes through it like butter. Would have been easy to cut a lot more, but that was enough for me.
_________

Transformer, looking at how involved the other method is I would definitly saw sawzall or grinding and stuff

We just drilled new holes for for the plastic piece to grab onto. These holes were a good 1" or so farther back, so the entire angle changed.

Granted, using a heat gun would give us a more smoothed appearence, but this gave us the extra room we needed.

If the sawzall cut through it like butter, that is the way to go, as it was pretty tuff wiith the grinder/cut-off wheel.

I just had to to this to my titan after mounted mT MTZ on 17" stocker 35's. I cut the pinch weld in 2 places about 2" from each other and just bent it towards the engine. I gained about 1/2" to 3/4" doing this so far so good. They rubbed real bad turning right. I couldnt even turn half turn right it would rub bad I think I have it fixed now.

I think it would probably depend on the cutting blade. I liked the grinder approach because you have more control over it....

Wow, you and i have VERY similiar problems. I'm running MT 35 ATZ's on 18's with the CST 7" and 2.5 more inches with the Fox Coils and still have a slight rub.

Yes sir. I actually had to buy them seperate. They initially come with a VERY sharp chrome one but i also opted to buy the Blue ones just because i like the color blue so much.

Let me just state that as much as some on the board don't like the look, that in town and in person the Blue beads get more compliments that ANYTHING i have EVER done to my truck .... BY FAR.

MT makes them in Red/Yellow/Blue/Black and of course the chrome version are nice to have to swap out at any given time just if you want a change or a different look. Like I said the Classic lock Wheels by MT already come with the chrome ones on them. They are very sharp as well.

Hope this helps GP. Keep me posted.

Im sure both will work well but I am impatiant and really dont like speding more time in the driveway than I need to when its 112 out.
