Are you talking about the Nissan nav system that is optional on the LE? Or just nav systems in general? Aftermarket favorites seem to be the Eclipse or Alpine. In the past, some have gotten prices on the Nissan nav system parts that were costly and decided it was better to go with a better performing aftermarket system instead. One idea seems to be buying the Nissan face plate and installing the Eclipse into it.

Aftermarket Nav is usually the better way to go. I'm looking at adding this one later on: Alpine N852A (http://iweb.alpine-usa.com/pls/admn/item_info?p_item_name=NVE-N852A&p_category=90&p_subcategory=&p_main=20). Not sure what size monitor the factory bezel accepts - it's posted here somewhere though, I saw it the other day.

I have a Garmin Street Pilot II. The "sandbag" it's mounted on fits perfectly in the tray where the stock NAV system would go. The nice thing about it is is can be removed and placed in the other vehicle, I can load/remove city maps and routes on my computer, etc. They're up to the Street Pilot III now -- but this is one hell of an easy unit, that talks to you -- gives your speed, direction, takes you to attractions, gas stations, you name it. Hold a boat-load of info...

Unit - http://www.thegpsstore.com/GPS-Automotive.asp

It was right around $700 for everything when I bought it last year. I believe I got it at Amazon.com

By buddy also has a Garmin, a little bit larger than a cell phone -- I think it was $400 or so. He has it mounted right on his dash with Velcro. Doesn't have all the features as the Street Pilot II -- but he's never been lost -- always finds a place to eat/gas up.

They're out there by the ton, so shop around -- I personally like the Garmin brand.

I would like the NAV system from the LE as it can interface with onboard computer. Unless someone knows how to do that another way. Having the system out in the open does scare me however.

I think it would be pretty hard unless the truck was prewired for the nav system, and since the nav is only optional on LE's (I think) The LE would have the best chance of being prewired. The aftermarket units might have better maps and more features but would not be tied into the trucks systems like air pressure in tires, climate controls, fuel management and audio controls. I am using the garmin 3600 GPS PDA, I have had it for a year or so and move it to and from my other vehicles. It works well enough for me.

I think it would look awesome in the dash!

Nice!...and cheaper than the Alpine when you add the monitor. I don't think I've seen that one before, I mostly looked at the N1. Wouldn't work for what I want to do unfortunately....I want to find something with a seperate box and monitor so I can install it where the factory NAV goes. So far, only the Alpine fits the bill.

You would have to buy a new panel either way. If you do not have the nav system then your center and top panel are different. Most likely you would need a panel from an XE if you did the in dash, and neither will let you tie into the other truck systems. I like the pioneer but dont want to replace the fosgate just yet.

Can the Poineer be controlled by the steering colum controls? The wife would never go for a system that would not.
