: ABS Plastic Shells?

hey everyone this is my second post.
I was wondering if anyone has had experience with plastic (ABS and/or Thermoplastic)camper shells. Duratop is one brand and I think Brahma made them at some point also. The claims are that they are lighter(which increases gas milage), better suited for off-roading (because they flex better), and cheaper. My main concerns are fit and will they hold up to a roof rack on top.
If anyone has any experience or info on these I'd appreciate the feedback.

Thanks,
LouieIV :)

Hey Louie, welcome to the Club!
Personally, I don't have a Clue, but I am interested in what you find out. :learn:

Well it I looked more into the Duratop brand and They don't have one yet for the Titan and I'm not sure if anyone else make these type currently stateside. At this pint I'm leaning towards an ARE Z-series but I'm still 2-3 weeks out from ordering so I'm still looking.

I'm very price driven but I want quality also, so far best I'm coming up with is about $1400-$1500 for an ARE Z or a Leer 100R. If anyone knows of something comparable to these but signifantly less expensive let me know.

I have a fiberglass 'cap' by A.R.E. with a rack. Not sure about the strength of the abs vs. fiberglass, but if you're going to carry much weight on a rack I'd suggest some sort of gusseting inside to help carry the weight. Did mine out of solid maple.

I like your gussets whodaheck. I've looking at mounting my own tracks (for the rack) but I've been told that if I do it it will void the warranty. Dis you ask about your gussets or did you just do it?

Actually I just did it. I'm in construction and occasionally put a bit of a load on the rack, but don't think I'd ever try to max out the track rack bars (claimed 500lb limit).
