: Atlanta Cup Race
Incredible driving.
Carl Edwards has got it going on!
That kid has got some skills.
Was Anthem singer John Michael Montgomery drunk? That was horrible and embarrasing.
LDOTITAN 03-20-2005, 06:55 PM That was an awesome display of driving!!! Just like Stewart, that dirt track experience paid off keeping that thing out of the wall. I'm currently a die hard 6 car fan and have been looking for someone to follow after he retires. I think I may have found him.
I missed the first part of the race, so I didn't see JMM singing. I have it on tape and will go back and watch.
firecracker 03-20-2005, 06:57 PM Yeah, Carl is one of the "new" guys to watch! He's got some SERIOUS talent!
LDOTITAN 03-20-2005, 07:03 PM Just went and watched the Anthem. That was sad. Did you notice he had the lyrics written on a card hanging on his neck? Once the TV guys saw that, they never cut back to him. I thought he would do a better job.
Yep LDO I'm a long suffering 6 fan too.
Carl was to be Mark's replacement but with Jeff Burton's departure to the 30/31 it was pushed up last year.
Too bad he's not eligible for ROTY in Cup but is in Busch? go figure.
First driver to get his first Busch and Cup win the same weekend.
They need to thank Kenny Schrader who told Carl to get some dirt time in the Midwest. Those skills really helped him today.
We'll see what happens the rest of the year. Been interesting so far.
LDOTITAN 03-21-2005, 10:13 PM Wonder if they'll still move Carl to the 6 next year and put a new guy in the 99?
Caltitan 03-22-2005, 01:03 AM That was a memorable first win by Carl. You could see him trying for a few laps to figure out how he could pass Jimmy Johnson. Great finish. The Craftsman truck race also had a great finish on Friday night with Ron Hornaday and Bobby Labonte going at it on the last lap. Ron won by 0.008 seconds. 8)
Sergeant_Titan 03-22-2005, 07:12 PM I am a nemecheck (sp) guy. Can you guess why
But Jr is also a favorite, but have to give it to the kid. It is hard enough to win one race on a weekend let alone 2.
I think the greatest feeling in the world is having your 3 year old son stay up with you at Midnight through 6 in the morning to watch both the Superbowl and the Daytona with you. it just dont get better than that. Boy he has gotten me back into racing big time again. He loves it for some reason, and is now recognizing the cars, which is scary, he just turned 3 a 2 weeks ago.
LDOTITAN 03-22-2005, 10:22 PM My son was BIG TIME into it when he was from 3 to 6 years old. The last couple of seasons, he just can't be bothered to sit and watch a whole race anymore. He'd rather watch Yugio or play outside full time and check on Mark Martin and Jr occasionally. There was a time when he could identify every driver by his car number and vice-versa. Not so much anymore. I miss it.
But we still have hockey!!!... oh, wait..never mind. :( :(
rvt223 03-23-2005, 09:14 PM Yes John Michael was piss drunk...heard that in an interview here on KYGO in Denver. What a disgrace....kinda like that first lap.
LDOTITAN 03-25-2005, 01:13 PM From a Stock Car racing newsletter I get:
# Singer of National Anthem at Atlanta Apologizes: John Michael Montgomery has apologized to anyone offended by his performance of the national anthem prior to Sunday's Golden Corral 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway and blamed a medical condition called acoustic neuroma. "Please accept my sincerest apologies for offending anyone; it was certainly not my intention," said Montgomery in a statement on his Web site. "I will continue to see the doctors as we try to determine the best course of action to remedy the acoustic neuroma condition." Montgomery said the condition leaves the
sufferer with a lack of balance.(NASCAR Scene Daily Newsletter)(3-24-2005)
Take it for what it's worth.
LOl is acoustic neuroma condition what they call too many now. LOL
Sergeant_Titan 03-25-2005, 01:39 PM Thats the same thing I tell my Sergeant Major everytime we stroll in from Downtown...Well I should say stumble in from downtown. Its True :coffee:
LDOTITAN 03-25-2005, 03:38 PM I'm not trying to defend the guy, I thought his performance was pretty bad (especially the part about having the words on the back of his pit pass), but I found this on the web.
http://www.med.umn.edu/otol/library/aneuroma/
I call BS on JMM and his acoustic whatever.
I don't have it on tape but see if any of this makes sense:
If you're having Vertigo and inner ear problems then why when they introduced him did he take off his hat and hold it in the air with one hand and I swear he even stood up on his tippy toes?
Raising one arm would make you unsteady pretty bad if you have a balance problem don't ya think?
If its such a problem then why is he still doing concerts? Britany Spears can cancel for a hang nail it seems.
Also, why would you need the words to the Anthem? Figure he's had to have done it a few times in his career. Don't see him needing words to his songs at shows do ya? American Idol kids can sing the anthem without a cheat sheet.
I think he flat out got wasted in the Hospitality tent beforehand.
Took the old spindoctors a few days to come up with an excuse didn't it?
Caltitan 03-26-2005, 02:00 AM I think John Michael Montgomery and Ashlee Simpson should record a duet and then donate the proceeds towards research to find a cure for acoustic neuroma.
