: Titan engine components question
rvt223 03-21-2005, 12:47 AM Gentleman,
Just a few quick pick your brain type of questions? First I am curious to know if the cylinder heads on the Titan are of a hemispherical design, or more of canted valve design? Second are the pistons forged or cast, and last are the con-rods steel...forged or otherwise?
Regards,
Sam
Chief 03-21-2005, 01:00 AM OK I'LL take a crack at this one :D :D :D
The heads are not Hemi Heads in the least
I don't know about the rods, but the crank is forged
Sorry not much help but there are at least a few here that can answer you with certainty if you give a few bumps and use a little patience. I'm curious myself.
Welcome to ClubTitan rvt223.

the_head 03-21-2005, 09:01 AM Pistons are cast. Not sure about the rods, but they are not anything super special.
jrw396 03-22-2005, 08:43 AM This is what I am aware of on the components.
"The use of advanced engine technology such as aluminum block with cast iron cylinder liners, forged steel crankshaft, microfinished crankshaft and camshaft, graphite-coated pistons, 6-bolt main bearing caps, and Super Silent single-stage timing chain result in good fuel economy with no sacrifice of performance."
rvt223 03-23-2005, 12:15 AM Gentleman,
Thanks for the responses. My question in particular about the cylinder head was prompted because it seems as though the plugs run down thru the top of the head, as opposed to running in along the side of the head as one would find on say a BB chevy etc. Has anyone ever seen a cut away diagram of the heads and or engine? Just curious to know what the combustion chambers look like, i.e are they quench design, how many cc's etc etc? And what the pistons look like...i.e domed, dished, etc? What I am getting at is this...I wonder what sort of gains might be had if one had enough time, and money to balance and blueprint one of these engines? Bye the way the turbo thread here is very interesting....I'd sooner do that as opposed to supercharging...way less parasitic loss.
Regards,
Sam
Caltitan 03-23-2005, 01:14 AM There are a few Titan engine cut-out pics on the Nissan News site. Here's the link:

LDOTITAN 03-23-2005, 10:26 PM Okay, what are the differences on the "Texas Titan" at the bottom of that link???? Other than the logo on the tailgate?? Why are they so special???

Why are they so special???It's generally an appearance package with chrome wheels, chrome nerf bars, and special insignia on the floor mats and badges.

TitanHauler 03-24-2005, 12:11 AM I came across this document on TT. It has some really good information in it. In fact, M4ck might want to add it to the document section available for download.

My wife along with her family moved to Texas for PA. as soon as they could. Ya'll are welcome to. Then you too could have a Nissan Titan with your home state on it.

Thanks, TH...I haven't seen this doc about the Titan motor.....good stuff!
rvt223 03-24-2005, 10:07 PM That was exactly some of the info I was looking for. Bye the way the CC look to be hemispherical judging from the looks of the cut away. Interesting is the dished pistons with valve reliefs in them. Now all we need is 11:1 compression, bigger cams, injectors, race headers, etc. Funny how Japan is using DOHC tech in these engines, and Detroit is still using pushrods. Now a trivia question...How many people out there have seen a real live 427 SOHC engine? I've seen exactly one in Moab at the Hot Rod Show they host the last weekend in April. Bye the way if anyone is headed that way let me know. I'll be out there this year.

Sam
TitanGuyCNY 03-24-2005, 10:14 PM Hey, just to piggytail onto this topic - can anyone suggest a good source for high-performance engine internals (pistons, rods, injectors etc.) My bro-in-law rebuilds engines for a living and is willing to make a major project out of my baby if I can come up with the right parts
rvt223 03-24-2005, 10:27 PM RockyMtnTitan,
How about we head to Bandimere on the second weekend in April....Test and Tune all day both days. Just wondering if you (or perhaps The Head from Houston TX) have suggestions on rigging up a catch can for the overflow, and a battery tie down? My guess for our trucks stock is 16.32 et with a trap speed of 86+. Any high altitude drivers have input?

Sam
