Ok I'm wanting to know what is the deal for laying rubber on a public street in Houston, Texas? Is it a go direct to jail offense or not?

You can get a ticket for failure to contol vehicle, exibition of power & distruction of poblic property. I know I got busted on sixth street in austin when I was young , dumb & full of ***.

Well let's just say that it was told to me first hand that it is a new thing in Texas...Could have been a lie but the two young officers sure were serious. I talked my way out of all jail term and ticket though. Asked them if they drove a truck...etc.(One was in K9 tahoe)

I'd really like to confirm this....where's that HPD when you need him?

Anything you get a ticket for is a jailable offense. They can take you to jail for running a stop sign.

Technically, you can be taken to jail for nearly every offense - if the cop really wants to - I think Seat Belt is the only offense where jail is not an option. So to answer your question - yes you can go to jail for it. If they want to get nasty, there are multiple reasons they can - disturbing the peace, failure to maintain control, public exhibition of speed (maybe), and the all encompassing "criminal mischief" - the catch all whenever they cant think of anything decent

Makes sense to me. You get a ticket and/or go to jail for breaking the law. A ticket or jail is consequence for unlawful behavior. So, I can see the officer(s) having the option to choose either punishment.

I was turning left and had my stockers on..

I was waiting for the oncoming traffic to clear and then the light turns yellow.

In lane #1 a cop begins to slow down, in land #2 a woman in a ford explorer begins to slow down as well...

I start making my left turn and woman genius in lane #2 decides that she doesn't want to stop and goes through the now red light.

I brake hard and barely avoid a head on collision.

After she passes, the traffic that now has the green light is right at my bumper.

I punch it and light up my currently bald stockers, smoking out the place.

Cop didn't follow me, and idk if he went after her either.

Maybe he was off duty...I dunno.

I don't know about TX, but that won't stop me. In Chicago they have "negligent driving" ticket, which basically means you can be pulled over for a ticket at anytime.
Once ( a long time ago) I got that ticket for 38 in a 35; even the cop was embarrassed to give me a "speeding" ticket. You also can get that ticket for 20 in a 35, if there is snow, and an unpleasent officer.

38 in a 35? Thats gotta be hard to make stick in court. Spedometers aren't dead on accurate.
There are things that cops can do within the law and then there is reality. In a small town they might be able to get away more with jailing you for small offenses but in large cities there are space limitations. I rode with a friend who was a Dallas cop a few years ago. He wanted to arrest someone so he could show me that part of the process. Friday night in Oak Cliff and we couldn't find someone worthy of taking to jail. Lots of people he could have taken to jail but he said they would have laughed him out the door if he tried it. He probably wrote 10 failure to appear tickets that night for people with outstanding warrants.

yep main reason a cop will never arrest you is the district attorney will throw 95% of the B.S. out before it even reaches court, usually only the serious stuff like drug possesion or selling or maybe warrants are ever truly go to court.. I did a ride-a-long with my cousin who works for the beaumont police dept. and he told me after 4 yrs of being a cop he won't even take the drug heads to jail anymore.. unless he finds a felony ammount of like coke or heroine or crack, but the petty stuff like pot he seizes the dope, gives them a ticket then leaves.. hehe on this one stop he seen a elderly man wandering the streets at 3am. and he says to me "i bet he's a crack head" so he pulls over to talk to him and sure nuff in his right hand was a crack pipe still warm.. he looked like he hadnt seen a shower in weeks.. he finally got the crack pipe out of his hand after threating him with jail if he didnt cooperate, then the old guy claimed he found the crack pipe on the groud.. my cousin said "ohh so you just walk around picking up used crack pipes" hehe i was laughin so hard.. the **** they tell ya is funny they think everyone but themselves are stupid..

What I meant was ;I was stopped for 38 in a 35 , but the Chicago ticket was for "Negligent Driving" . Then it is stricty a matter of the officers judgement when you get to court. So the judge has to decide between the officers judgement and the bad drivers judgement; take a guess.

Yes, it's true, you can go to jail for a moving violation, jaywalking, just about anything. But the courts have empowered the fine officers of our country to issue you, the offender, a citation, as opposed to taking you to jail. That's why when you sign (not req'd in some states/places) and pay your ticket, your admitting guilt. Which is the same as a conviction.

But if you so chose, which some do, you can appeal the charge, and request a court date, and appear before the judge.

As for going to jail for spinning your tires, yes, you can be taken to jail for that, and maybe they're trying to crackdown. Or they've made it a reckless driving charge, which could mean automatic arrest, as well as excessive points and a heavy fine.
Either that, or the cops were just trying to convince you that it's not wise to do that.
