: Straight Flow Mufflers Installed

I had some Dynomax Race Bullet Mufflers installed to take the place of the factory resonator pipes. I originally had a straight pipe put in, but the crackling and popping/backfiring sound I did not like. Gone is the noise and all you hear now is the deep rumble. It lost just a little bit of the authoritative voice it had before, but sounds so much better. I did not notice any decrease in power which is a plus.

If you like the sound of a 60's big block muscle car then leave the straight pipes in if you do this mod. However, if you like the sound of a tuned modern day vette or mustang then add resonators. My personal preference is the sound of a highly tuned V12!

The resonator is a tight fit on the passenger side. There's only about a 3/8" clearance from the bottom support. The driver side has plenty of room. In one of the pics it looks like it's actually touching the frame, but it's not.

I hope to have a sound clip of it later.

Looks just like the Morosos I put in mine. I like the quieter tone too.

When I had the straight pipes in I was flooring it on the freeway and must have passed this camry at about 85mph. Man, was the truck screaming. I will never forget the look of her face (older 60s lady) when I passed. I kinda felt bad because she looked so frightened, but the look on her face was hilarious!

Nice. Looks less restrictive than the factory resonators. Any change with the cruising drone?

Cal,
With the straight pipes the drone didn't increase at all, but I didn't like the crackling sound. These new resos killed the raspiness and popping sound I was getting. So it sounds like the original but with better flow. Couldn't be any happier!

m95roadster.....is this the same dynomax muffs you used?

Just trying to figure which I should go with. You guys got me thinkin' bout this now instead of the straight pipes. The Dynomax are cheaper at $31/ea as opposed to $46/ea for the Moroso, plus the Dynomax is steel with an aluminized exterior and longer (12" case) as opposed to the Moroso which is shorter (8" case) and is steel w/ natural finish. I wonder which would flow the best? I'm a little worried with the Moroso being all steel, and rust would be a factor eventually. What do ya guys/gals think?

Arghhhh!!! Blew out one of the gaskets and the SES came on. And it's too late to go back to the muffler shop! Truck runs like crap now!

Doh....I hate when that happens. Your SES code is either a 1273 or 1283. Just clear it out after you get the leak fixed.

I see you noticed how crappy the truck runs with a leak. I've noticed the same thing and it amazes me how a tiny leak will cause the engine to run like hell.

Bummer, man! What kind of gasket did they use?? Can you just torque 'em down, for now 'till you get her back to the shop?

It's graphite sandwiching metal. I tried but it's only part of the gasket. It's not very noticable you can only hear it if you stick your head underneath.

Been there . . . TWICE! Tell them to save you the trouble and put in the metal core gaskets. They are a bit more expensive but for your time having to come back they should hook you up for nothing. Then check out Quiks instructions on clearing the light. I'm curious to see which code it threw. If it's the left bank 1273 if it's the right bank 1283. Seen em both.

THauler,

Thanks for the tip. It gave me 1283 which is correct...was the passenger side.

Hey reading all the mods to the exhaust. I just had a flowmaster set up put on with a 3" in with duel 2 1/2" out. I was wondering if it is possible to add resinators in line with the muffler or just take the muffler off and just get to race mufflers in place of the flowmaster. Thanks for the help. :D

Well it depends on what you're trying to accomplish. Do you want your exhaust louder or quiter. If you add a resonator to your system it will make it quiter or if you replace your muffler with one it may get louder. I used them to replace the factory resonators and that's it. After that is a flowmaster system.

Well, I fixed the exhaust leak today. I swapped out the ones the muffler shop used and put in the Nissan metal gaskets...$25 for 2!!!

SES light is now gone and no more crackling or popping. I've included a link to a video. http://www.projectindustries.com/images/im000193.mpg

Here's some shots of the resonators.

Ouch....$25 for two friggin gaskets??!

Sounds lean and mean! I'm kinda leanin' towards those same resos; just waitin' on a guy I know that builds custom choppers to hook me up with his buddy with a bender.

Thanks for the vid!
