: Power Tailgate lock and alarm switch
frankr 03-25-2005, 03:44 PM I have always had power tailgate locks on all my trucks and since the Titan already has a lock, adding an actuator is easy. I started by looking at Boone-Titan's write-up and made some changes and also added an alarm switch.
The power lock actuator is wired to my custom Clifford alarm. It's wired to lock wth the power door locks, but only unlock when the truck release button on the alarm remote is pressed. This reduces wear and tear on the tailgate lock.
I also added a switch to the tailgate lock which only makes contact when the handle is pulled and the lock is unlocked. I also made up a bypass circuit that interupts the switch's signal when the alarm unlocks the tailgate.
Lastly, I added a plug to the wire harness to allow the tailgate to be removed if necessary.
frankr 03-25-2005, 03:48 PM Here are some more pics of the tailgate lock.
I also added an alarm switch to the gas lid.
A gas lid alarm now there is something useful with all the hikes in fuel prices. Never know when someone might try to syphon your tank.

littlebuddha19 03-25-2005, 05:32 PM I like those mods.

mysetitan 03-25-2005, 09:56 PM aLARM on the gas cap??? NICE!!!!!! How did you make that possible? would you mind giving me some detailed instruction on what parts you used and how you hooked it up?
Thanks

TitanHauler 03-25-2005, 10:53 PM Extremely well done Frank! Your a pioneer. Now just sit back and watch everyone copy your trick gas door mod. :)
m95roadster 03-26-2005, 06:48 AM Great job there! Couple of questions. Do you have remote start? If so, was it difficult to do? I have never done one with the chipped transponder keys. Thanks.
frankr 03-26-2005, 08:35 AM The reason I did the gas lid on the alarm is because I hate to carry an extra key for the gas. I used a DEI small magnetic switch #8600 for the gas lid. Here is a pic of the two parts highlighted. It looks just like the ones used for a house alarm except this is a N/C while home alarms require N/O so they are not interchangeable. BTW, the truck was dirty the day I took the pic, she needed a bath.
m95, I did do remote start. It wasn't that tough, but you need experience in car alarms, which by the looks of your stereo, I think you do. To bypass the transponder key while remote starting I used the DEI #556U-W. You take a spare key and mount it inside the module, run its antenna to the ignition switch and wire up the module to the remote start. When the truck is remote started, the module links the key to the ignition via the antenna, when the remote start is off, you need to have a valid transponder key. It works perfectly.
If you have auto headlights, there is another mod that has to be done to prevent the headlights from staying on after a remote start cycle.

Frankr,
Thanks for the info. I've done quite a bit of alarms in the past, but not the transponder type. I did a little research and found out that there are some bypass transponders that don't require spare keys. Do you know if this is available for the Titan? I hate to lose a spare key for this. Thanks again.
Brandon 12-11-2007, 11:39 AM frankr, sent you a PM.

Eagle1 03-24-2010, 10:51 PM is there a spot where we can save the threads we are really interested in?
Jarvis 03-25-2010, 01:44 AM Wish this guy knew before he wasted his time.. in spike of the gas prices, many new vehicles now have a filter installed that prevents a hose from going down into the gas tank. Also Ford now has a cap-less fill system which also prevents a hose from giong down fully into the gas tank.
And an alarm on the tail gate.. honestly, anything that's in the bed of my truck is up for grabs as anyone can just reach over and snatch it. If the item is so big they need to open the tail gate, odds are they'll need a few more people and/or a fork lift to get suck items out and carry it away without other people or myself taking notice....
Great idea on the power lock on the gate though, as that's quite useful!! A+ for something Nissan should have done in the first place.
