: For Sale/Trade forum
AgTitan06 10-29-2006, 12:40 PM A lot of forums I've seen lock their For Sale/For Trade forums so that you can only post in it, and it does not allow replies...This forces people who are interested to PM or e-mail you instead of posting replies in the thread. It also prevents bumping posts and other unnecessary posts. What do you think?
JackedTitan 10-29-2006, 01:00 PM If you PM someone and they don't respond and do not allow emails to be received through the sight then there's no way to contact them other then posting in their thread if your interested in what their selling. So if everyone read their Pm's and allowed emails to be to be sent through the site then this would work, But they don't!
Another thing to think about. If someone asks a question about an item and the seller answers it in the thread then everyone will know the answer and not have to try and PM the person.

Pros and cons for each way.
RedTitanLE 10-29-2006, 05:28 PM I agree to keep it as-is. Many times a question has been asked and answered within the thread that helps me make a choice.
Tricky-Dick 10-29-2006, 07:06 PM If it's not broke don't fix it. :)
AgTitan06 10-29-2006, 07:27 PM Just wait until you are trying to sell something, and then people decide to "chime in" and trash-talk what you are selling and the price.
PenguinLE 10-29-2006, 07:31 PM I say keep it as is. There has been much useful information gathered in the past through questions/answers on 4Sale items. Why would you want to give up that kind of valuable information.
Besides, it also keeps watchful eyes on "questionable" for sale items. Some newbies might not be able to distinguish a quality item from one that may not be legit. Discussions help to flush the kind of info out.

I agree, I just wish some people would voice their concerns via PM instead of through a post.

Let 'em talk! If it gets out of hand the mods will deal with it. I like to keep it all in the open. If someone has issues with what you are selling or the price you set, they're not going to be interested and the general CT public will see through it. Don't worry about the trash talkers.

Don't take it personally. People are not intentionally "trashing" people or their items. Many are trying to be helpful - the more appropriate the price, the better the chances of finding a sale.
There was someone trying to sell their barely used 2006 XE, and couldn't understand why no one was interested. Once he realized that a brand new XE could be easily had for $2,000 LESS than his asking price due to rebates and such, he ended up going a different direction. Feedback is not always hateful or meanspirited, but more of an FYI from different perspectives.

I agree, but it should be done through private message and not in the selling thread.
scr38 10-29-2006, 09:07 PM AgTitan has a good point. You should not post in the For Sale section unless you are interested in buying the object for sale. Post just making comments about the price, etc, clutter up the thread. The worse "sinner" is the guy who posts a similar item he has for sale on another member's thread.
So, if you are interested in buying the item for sale or want to ask a question about it then post away. But don't hijack the thread with posts that are not directly related to the sale of the item.
