*****I have since undone this Mod and redid it from the Brake pedal harness,-much easier with better results*****
Please move to DIY!
I really wanted to do this mod and there has been interest from others but there were no pics with the original post, so I decided to give it a try. I will be doing a few mods over the next couple of days, and will do the pics and posts on some of them, some of what I'm doing has already been posted with pics.
Let me just say that my Paint shop (or whatever) skills are really non-existent.
Parts list: (all pepboys)
1-40' 18ga wire-$5.99
2-Black Wire Loom 3/8(could go smaller)x 5foot-$4.50x2=$9.00
1-Assorted small wire connectors(I had all) about-$4.00
1- Large Black switch(non lighted, very incognito)-$3.49
Here are Misery's original instructions:
disconnect and remove battery.
remove battery tray (4 bolts)
pull out bottom ECM plug
cut open harness and find red wire with white stripe.
mount any type on on/off switch in cab (where ever you want the switch)
run wires from switch through firewall and into engine bay(near fuse box)
cut the red/wht wire, and connect the ECM end of the red/wht wire to the acc. side of the switch and the other end of the red/wht wire to the supply side of the switch, tape 'em up and re-assemble everything in the reverse order, your done.
This mod took me nearly 2 hours with no pics to reference.
First remove both battery terminals, and unbolt the battery hold down bracket(Green arrow-pic 1). There is a sleeve on the battery casing, remove it , then push battery toward the engine, wiggle and lift up.
OK first pic is with the battery removed looking down at the battery tray. remove the 3 bolts with yellow arrows, and the clip w/ blue arrow. I removed the fuse panel w/ orange cover by unhooking clips w/ red arrow. You may not need to to this. The final tray bolt is hidden very well by wire loom w/ purple arrow. I removed this bolt with a long extension and swivel, then pulled the tray, then pulled straight up on attached panel.
Pic 2 is of the wire loom clip that has to be undone from the bottom of the tray so it fully removed.
Pic 3 is the 2 ECM wire harnesses. I found the easiest way to get to the bottom one is to remove the top one first, the the bottom(the one you really want). The clips are neat, just press the small tab and slide the "arm" all the way. Then GENTLY wiggle the harnesses out.
Pic 4 is the red and white wire described by Misery. Gently slice the electrical tape with a knife, and pull back the gray loom, to expose the wires. locate the wire and cut in the middle.
The hardest part was finding a place to pass through the fire wall without hurting something. I finally found A spot next to the steering knuckle. Pull back the sound deadener, and drill a hole about 2 inches over from the knuckle. Angle the drill towards the passenger side and go for it. Pic 5
I pulled the wires through the firewall and cut about 3 feet of loom and covered them under the dash. Next I removed the bottom dash cover(two screws underneath), picked where I wanted the switch, drilled my hole and installed switch. Then cut the wires to length, mine switch required male blade connectors, so I crimped them on and wired my switch. Pic 6
I've reached my photo limit, will continue next post.
