Caltitan 03-26-2005, 12:08 PM Wheels, tires, and fenders look real good! Nice pics.
TitanHauler 03-26-2005, 12:13 PM Beautiful Qwik! That looks great! Have I ever told you that you have excellent taste in tires??? ;)
Truck looks great QWIKWHIP. I really like those wheels.
That looks great!! Now for the questions. How big is you leveling kit? Is you truck an off-road? Do the tires rub anywhere? Whats the backspacing on the wheels? I wish you could get the bushwackers for the trucks without the box behind the left rear wheel...

LOL, I think it's been mentioned. :D lol
Thanks for the compliments. :)

lol, that's alot of questions. :)
Let's see, I have the PRG 2" leveling kit, my truck is 4x4 non offroad, the tires did rub in the fender liner a little but I was able to correct that, and there have been some people that installed the lock box flares on the none lock box trucks, it just has that seem but they do work. Hope that covers it all. 8)
Very nice. I too have a question. I am looking at 20 inch rims. Mainly the Boss 301's. they are 20 x 8.5. I was looking at terra grapplers or the nitto 404's more of a street tire. The size tire I was looking at was 305/50/20 please tell me what the difference is between 305/50/20 and 305/55/20 that middle number is throwing me off.

Oh yeh one more thing. I noticed a special grill you have. Please give details you may have already I may have missed a post on it or something.

If your going with the street tire look than the 305/50 will probley be fine. The 305/55 tire is about 33.5" tall and the 305/50 is about 32.5" tall. If you go with the smaller you will have no rubbing issues even with out the leveling kit. Plus you have the 17" steelies now right? If so than the 305/50 will not mess up your speedo as much as the 305/55's will. :) Hope that helps.

It's the Grillcraft one. 8) It was the only one I found that I liked. However, I like the Dunder grille you have and would have went with it but he came out with that one after I bought mine. :(

ohh ohh I'm next... :***:
mysetitan 03-26-2005, 08:28 PM I'm not to big on lifted trucks, but mann...that looks sweettt.....
good job...
Mills 03-26-2005, 09:10 PM M4ck,
You probably already know this, but on the 305/50/20's, the first number is the number of milimeters wide that the tire tread is...the middle number is the percent of that tread width that the sidewalls are, and of course, the 20 is the diameter of the wheel. On the 305/50/20 tire, the sidewall is 50% of the width. The 305/55/20, the sidewall is 55% of the width of the tire. I think the 50% number includes the distance all the way to the inside of the bead, down inside the wheel.

Quick Tire Lesson:
305 = mm of section width (not tread width)
50 = % of section width which = the sidewall height.
20 = rim width (of course).
Example = 305 X .5 / 25.4 = 6.0" of sidewall height
Example 2 = 305 X .55 / 25.4 = 6.6" of sidewall height
25.4 mm = 1"
Bottom line, the 305/55/20 will be a taller tire than the 305/50/20 but hopefully the math helps.
baja220 03-26-2005, 09:23 PM You know our Titans love a sponge bath!!!!
Looks great
m95roadster 03-26-2005, 09:36 PM Nice looking truck there Quik!! I was thinking of getting those Bushwackers too, but I prefer them painted. Are you going to paint yours? I think your ride would look bad a$$ if you painted yours also. Some reason the black reminds me of a chevy.
Question for you.. Is the surface smooth or is it rough like ABS plastic? Thanks.
TitanGuyCNY 03-26-2005, 11:22 PM Quickwhip, that's a great look. I agree with M95, go and get them Bushwackers painted you'll be glad you did. Especially with your red, it'll change the whole appearance of your truck in a major way.

M95, the outer surface of the Bushwackers is pretty smooth but with a matte finish to it. Funny thing is, the inside surfaces are actually pretty glossy.

Thanks. Do you know what material the flare is made out of?

Sorry M95 I don't, but it has some flex to it -- it seems like it would bend not shatter if hit. My paint guy said it required only a minimum of preparation. May be time for a call to Mr. Bushwacker?
Mills 03-27-2005, 12:43 AM M4ck,
What is the difference between section width and tread width? The tire salesman explained to me that 305 was the tread width. You are implying that there is a difference. I need to know what that is. And don't you mean to say that 20" is the rim diameter, not width?
For those trying to figure out height of tire sizes, here's a calculator I always use and may be helpful to others.
http://www.ringpinion.com/content/calculators/RPM.asp
Mills 03-27-2005, 02:20 AM Right on! What a great calculator. So, if I use real world numbers off my tires, it would look something like this...
OEM wheels/tires:
265/70/18 = 32.61"
Custom wheels/tires:
305/50/22 = 34.01"
This means that my custom wheels/tiresare a tad under an inch and a half taller than my oem tires. This would also mean that I need to adjust mileage for calculating my mpg...which in this case could be done as follows:
height of tire (diameter):
32.61" diameter = 102.45" circumference
34.01" diameter = 106.85" circumference
1 mile = 63,360 inches
102.45" tire rotates 618.45 times per mile (63,360 / 102.45)
106.85" tire rotates 592.98 times per mile (63,360 / 106.85)
There is a difference of 25.6 rotations per mile
(618.45 - 592.98 = 25.60)
This equates to 2,622.72 fewer (102.45 x 25.6)inches recorded (on odometer)per mile by the custom wheel/tire
If we assume that the odometer is geared for exactly what the dimensions are for the OEM tires, for every 100 miles, this means that my custom tire will record 262,272 inches fewer than the OEM tire would have. This equates to 4.14 miles (262,272 / 63,360 or 4.14%) fewer miles recorded on the odometer. If I travel 400 miles per tank of fuel(I think I can), that means that tank of gas yields me 16.6 (4.14 x 4)fewer miles than my odometer is recording. If I burn fuel at the rate of 16.6 mpg, my odometer is shorting me roughly 1 mpg per tank full of gas, all because my custom tires are taller by almost an inch and a half.
For those of you who like to lift the trucks up high and throw those monster tires under there, you would see an even more drastic loss in recorded or calculated mpg. Your actual mpg average would not be nearly as bad as the odometer is leading you to believe.
I believe Chief has mentioned in several of his posts, that you really need to remember that the distance your odometer is recording is not correct if you have oversized tires. The numbers above prove him right....

I don't think I am painting mine. I kinda like the rugged look. :) Only time will tell I guess. If I do paint them I will do it when I get the front and rear bumpers to loose the last chrome. 8) The flares are made of ABS and are a smooth surface that can be painted with very little prep.
kytitan 03-27-2005, 05:38 PM Truck looks awsome Qw, very rugged! :D

How was the install on the GrillCraft Grills?
Was the front license plate a problem also was the factory grill removed for the upper three pieces?
LDOTITAN 03-27-2005, 08:03 PM Mills, you had a slow Easter Sunday, didn't you????
TitanosaurusRex 03-27-2005, 08:27 PM That looks absolutely spot-on perfect. Drool!
Deep Water blue (green) with envy!!!
It's such a cool wheel/tire combo, and great to know how great they can tuck in with the right wheel width. On your truck the black flares look excellent.
It's stuff like this that keeps our hearts full and our wallets empty!

The install for the Grillcraft is pretty straight forward, but it is involved. You have to take the grill off the truck and cut out the center part of the grill. I also cut the side pieces, but it isn't a neccesity. I just didn't want to see the OEM grill behind the Grillcraft ones. As for the lower grill, it was just a bolt on install. And all I did was put longer screws in for the plate braket, it didn't quite fit back on so with the longer screws I was able to screw it back on and snug it up against the new grill insert. Hope that explains it for ya. :)
