I managed to strip a lug nut from swapping tires at the track. It got really tight and although I tried to go a little back and forth to help the threads out, it eventually snapped the axle stud off. So I'm going to be finding out what thread and all that jazz the stock stud is and drive it out for a replacement. What was weird is that the nut did not bind when I put it on. I generally put them on finger tight before cranking down with a lug wrench. Ah well, first casualty. I'm also now over 70 nitrous runs with no powertrain failures.

Well that's good to hear...the now powertrain problems that is.

Since you change out the wheels so often, you should probably see if ARP has some studs to replace the stockers with!?!

The 70 nitrous runs is reassuring, just in case I decide to start talking to my wife about getting one. I've heard of broken lugs before, though not on the Titan. Are they hard to replace on the Titan?

You need a pit crew with as much time as you run at the track! That way you can blame it on them when they snap a lug....lol!

Heck I'd volunteer for pit duty man. When you get more famous head and make your way east on tour dragging the Titan full time on the "Worlds Fastest Titan Tour" I'll do pit duty for "Head Racing Inc"... :headbanger:

Wow, 70 Nitrous runs and only a stripped wheel stud??? Outstanding! Keep up the good work. Ditto on the ARP wheel studs, however you will most likely have to get open ended lugnuts unless they make some in the proper length for the Titan.

If they are stock in length then that would be good. Other wise, I will just have to replace with another stocker. Crawling under the truck and looking, if the outer shield doesn't allow enough access to pound it out and replace it, the axle will be coming out. And that's good and bad. I don't want to have to replace the bearing and oil seal per the Nissan service manual to pull the axle to get the stud out. But it would be good because then I could count splines and do some measuring to see if some of the posi units out there will really fit or not - the kind that replace the spider gears. So I'm hoping it will be easy but won't be devastated if I have to do more work.

A spline count on the axles would be great, I've thought about pulling one, but I haven't had the time or motivation to tear into something that isn't broken. Come up with the right spline count and I've already got a limited or an easy locker to throw in. I doubt dana changed the carrier on the 44 for Nissan, but splines are another story.

I have heard that the carrier was made by Dana to Nissan specs and was based off the 44. The axles are Nissan and most likely an odd spline count. I can't imagine if their was a carrier out there that would work it wouldn't have been discovered and marketed by now. Your best bet would be to contact the guys who ran that Titan in the Baja 1000 this past year. I just read in the Off-Road Magazine article they used a TracLock Locker in the rear with 3.25 gears?

I doubt that was a stock Titan axle they were using, I just don't see a Dana 44, even a beefed up one, taking that kind of abuse.

Nope, I'm almost positive it was the factory rear axle. One of the guys who drove it is a frequent poster over at TT. "Piluka" I think is his name.
