Im starting this thread hoping to assimulate as many traction improvement ideas as we can in one place if that is ok. I remember some discussion about this under new leaf spring thread but it's been a while. Obviously many of us have already, or are soon to be, making performance improvements in our trucks. With that thought in mind, obviously improving traction will be a necessity! My truck spins tires way too much now. PLEASE SHARE ALL SUCCESSES. Thanks

I have sent Dana Axles several e-mail messages asking about a true limited slip rear end to get away from the ABLS Limited Slip. Our rear end is a model of a Dana 44 BUT it is Nissan specific in some of the parts at this point. Never really got any more info then that. I suspect Nissan will deliver a true limited slip rear end with it's future models as I see many would like to have it.

I, through trial and error have noticed a slight to better improvement on traction as well as tire wear by siping my tires. I have done it on my last 5 trucks and it has shown better on some models than others. I am a firm believer in though. I have siped my stock as well as my regular tires. I got some improvement on my stocks but yet to give either here nor there with new tirs since there are only 220 miles on them and its been wet since I put them on. Honestly siped or not if your get'n on it they'll turn. I just like to slow the wear as much as possible with getting as much traction as I can get.
Also if your going to do average or better of offroad, muddin, or gravel (when it comes to gravel I mean more than a miles worth a day) driving; limit the amount of siping to 45-70% of actual 32nds of tread. It will help to keep you from tearing up your rubber.

I have an Xterra with limited slip, and the guys on that forum have been saying for years that they wish the truck didn't have limited slip, but rather an eletric locker. So what gives...I'm no guru, but it's my understanding that Nissan's limited slip diffs had clutch plates that evetually wear out, leaving the axle with an "open-like" performance.
As for my experience, neither LSD or ABLS has passed my traction test. I have this unique steep incline at the end of my street in which I'm exiting my road going up hill, turning onto a level street. When it's wet outside, both of my vehicles (Xterra with LSD, Titan with ABLS) spin when the truck gets turned with weight distribution mainly on oposite front/rear wheels, e.g., Left Front and Right Rear, the left rear will spin. It's a bad feeling trying to catch a short break in traffic, only to start spinning halfway through your turn. But where the Titan stands out is when I finally do get traction...ba bye!!!!

I think the Nissan e-locker in the 05 off-roads are the only thing out there right now. But no one knows exactly for sure since no one has had their differential apart to measure or count splines or things of that nature.

Big Fat Slicks and welded spider gears....works everytime....lol!

I had the JetTech leafs in for a while and did notice a traction bar effect, but the ride was a little to stiff for me. I don't have as much of a traction problem as some of you low-landers, but I am jealous!

:?: It has to be the physics of the weight distribution..right? I've had ppl in back and got much better traction. Prefer not to add any additional weight to our already heavy truck, but I'm thinking sand bags should do it.. Any thoughts?

Getsomz28 had his CC 4WD weighed a while back and posted the numbers incl front to rear weights. The weight distribution was much better than you'd think for a truck. Sand bags placed just inside of the wheel wells would help some, w/o adding a lot of extra weight.
