: IS THIS POSSIBLE?
Chief 03-28-2005, 08:01 PM Hi All.
Got my truck back about 1.5 weeks ago. The differential was destroyed and replaced with an '05 rear.
I've been babying it since I got it back. I'd also been real easy on it for awhile before it went.
Tonight it's raining and I decided to do a little slider on the slick pavement. Nothing.
I then proceeded to really try and make them spin and nadda nadda nadda. Even a powerebrake won't do it. The slip light comes on but the tires won't break loose. This really burns my ***.
Is it possible that the dealer kicked things back a notch? Other than that I'm thinking that the ECM has 'learned' to take off real easy because that's all I've been doing for quite awhile now.
In either case I haven't been able to get any information from my dealer other than they took the old rear out and put in an entire '05 unit.
Guess I'm gonna have to see if I can re-teach it. Other than that, does anyone have any ideas? The truck still takes off quickly, it just seems to hold off just enough to keep from breaking loose!!!!!!!!!!

Man Am I P.O.'d right now!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks,
Chief
TitanHauler 03-28-2005, 08:28 PM It is entirely possible that the computer has learned your temporary driving behavior and is copping out on you when your stabbing the throttle. A few other things to check and consider, double check to make sure they gave you 3.36 rear gears since you have the off-road package. It wouldn't surprise me if they weren't paying attention and stuck a rear with the higher gears in there. Did the new rear include new brakes too? Maybe they are tight due to the fronts being slightly worn which might explain not being able to power brake the thing. I say start driving the **** out of it after break-in and see what happens. Double check the gears though cause that could make a huge difference.
Rossi 03-28-2005, 08:33 PM Did they put the same gear ratio in? But still you should be able to break them loose....especially if it's wet. Sounds like your ECU is pulling your truck back. I know it does this when it's first started. Will be interested in hearing this one.
Chief 03-28-2005, 08:37 PM Thanks TitanHauler.
That's a good consideration, but I've already had it in 4 wheel drive for extended periods so that one is out.
There are new brakes so that's a likely cause. I'm also thinking this ABLS system may be working overtime.
Quite a few likely causes that should work out in time.
Man the initial shock just killed me though....
:( :( :( :( :(
It's not so much not being able to spin them as it is just knowing that I can't!!!!!!!
I'll get over it.

Chief 03-28-2005, 08:41 PM Thanks Rossi.
If they did put the taller gears in, it's sure not showing up in the MPG's :D :D :D
I'll keep Ya posted!!!!!!!!!!!

You know, I didn't even think about that. If you put it in 4 wheel drive you would have gotten a rude awakening if you had higher gears in the back, more so if you have VDC. I bet it's the computer and possibly the new brakes. Give it a little while and see what happens. I feel your pain though. Since I put my new wheels and tires on my truck, no more burnouts. :( To much rubber down there now.
Chief 03-28-2005, 08:46 PM Thanks for the sympathy!!!!!!!!
:D :D :D

Kopperking 03-29-2005, 08:08 AM Maybe, they Discovered that the ABLS wasn't working B/4, and they Fixed THAT too?!
jrw396 03-29-2005, 09:53 AM They may have upgraded you to the TEXAS Edition.
Just kidding, but couldn't resist.
P.S. We are working on changing a little street name in Washington, D.C. from Pennsylvania AVE to TEXAS Ave.
Has a good ring to it from down here in TEXAS.
340ciTitan 03-29-2005, 10:02 AM Maybe they put a Sentra rear end in?
Redright9 03-29-2005, 03:22 PM When dealers replace differentials, thats what happens, we just get sent an entire unit..Its a simple bolt in deal..As far as the dealership changing programming, I would HIGHLY doubt that..Nissan does have times when we reprogram things, but that is downloaded from them, then to a vehicle. The tech cannot modify it.. All the tech can do with the CONSULT scan tool is read codes, perform tests on various components, perform downloads from Nissan, slight idle adjustments on some vehicles, and perform relearns on the vehicle. Relearns will just have the computer relearn a system, not change the operation or lower power from the engine. I would have to say that since you have been so easy on the vehicle, it has relearned itself to be that way..drive it harder and check..
Rossi 03-29-2005, 03:41 PM So if you drive your truck like a bat out of hell all the time...it will be faster? LoL Boy...heads truck must scream...without the NOS. And JT's. Not that it's not possible for the computer to learn your nice driving...it just seems strange for it to not allow you to jump on it if it has learned easy driving.
Redright9 03-29-2005, 05:58 PM It may be starting the vehicle in second gear or something because it has been driven so easy..thats what I was thinking..seen it before..honestly havent heard that complaint before so its hard to say 100%...
Kopperking 03-29-2005, 06:12 PM Naw, I Think that Ol'Chief Lost his Nerve!
And is Blaming it on his Titan!
Chief 03-29-2005, 07:14 PM ok so now my truck doesn't burn rubber AND I got some DAMN TEXANS gangin' up on me!!!!!!!!!
ooooooooooooooooooooooooo
:D :D :D
JimB I hope it's not a sentra rear, I've never seen one but they are Front wheel drive, well that could explain the powerloss .........
Redright9, Can't thank you enough for your info, many many thanks!!!!!!!! I'm glad to rule out the tech reprogram theory and also learn what the heck is actually going on inside my 'top secret' dealership :D
Today I drove it a bit harder to work and back. 50 miles roundtrip. Then I found a good empty backlot and hit it a few times. When I turned the wheels to start and held it in first it started to do it's thing and got a little better. Appears to be returning to normal. The thought about startoff gearing hit me in the head right then, maybe not starting in second, but locking up some? I dunno but holding it in first felt better for sure. Redright, I think you are pretty close to what's going on here.I didn't want to beat it up so I quit early. Pretty amazing how a vehicle can react to driving habits. I'm in awe.
Thanks for all the replies!!!!!!! (yes, even you, JR and Tattoo :D :D :D )

Redright9 03-29-2005, 07:37 PM Good to hear your truck is getting back to normal....The Titan has such great power, its sooooo fun to use....( I love test driving new Titans!!)
I give my 05 a good stomping or two every time I drive it. Sometimes I will wait until it is going about 5 MPH and then Stomp it. It still spins. Got 1800 miles on it. I really do NOT want to wear the tires out too fast. That is one heck of a bill of new tires. My Slip light came on for the first time the other day in the rain. I never noticed it before when it ws dry out.
Chief 03-31-2005, 07:54 PM Mine was like that before the new rear. I could pretty much do a controlled spin with the pedal. I'm pretty confident it will come back, but I'll give it a fair break-in :D
As far as the slip light, I think I've missed it a few times because I can't look at the dash when mashing it, but really it tends to come on at slow speeds, either in snow or offroad. It doesn't waste it's time on deliberate burnouts :D :D :D

i believe ive read somewhere that the transfer case wont allow the truck to change into 4x4 if it detects to much of a difference between the front and rear wheels. it would probably just stay in 2x4 and flash the 4x4 light at you.
