: Ram/cold air intake mod :)
Toomnymods 11-21-2006, 12:00 AM Thanks to seeing a hemi ram with a similar setup at the track sun, and seeing GR8titans's cai mod i said what the hell it's only 20 bucks of pvc and fitting so i went out and bought a bunch of random 45 elbows and a union to join the short pieces together, as well as a rubber 4x6 collar to use as a scoop to funnel air into the tube it is working excellant, i love the sound after 75-80 mph you can hear the air pressurizing inside the aem box and i wouldnt doubt it is giving it some sort of ram air effect.. ran out of daylight to take all pics today, but will have some completed pics up tommrow..
here's the first set of pics finishing pics will be tommrow..

Crazy_Steve 11-21-2006, 12:03 AM Lookin' good there senor!
Toomnymods 11-21-2006, 04:14 PM here are the finished shots finished up today, she sounds good now, cant wait till fri to see if getting true cold air to the intake will help... before the temps where like 15-18 degrees above ambient temps at the MAF sensor, shouldnt be more than 2-3 degrees now with this much forced air going in there :)

docopharm 11-21-2006, 04:15 PM Good deal, curious to hear what you think of it after a few runs.
ArmyTitan 11-21-2006, 04:23 PM looks pretty sweet
baseballfanz 11-21-2006, 04:28 PM Look good man, if you get good result I might have to try the same. So you loose your windshield fluid bottle?:)
buzzkillwill 11-21-2006, 05:15 PM So you loose your windshield fluid bottle?:)
I don't think he's using it anyway. In his video, it looks to me he has his nitro "purging" through the washer lines.
Pretty cool lookin'!
RIDER 11-21-2006, 05:18 PM Looks good!
ryant831 11-21-2006, 05:20 PM I've seen gr8titan do it on a volant but I was wondering how it would work on a non-sealed cai. Notice any gains?
Nonpoint 11-21-2006, 05:42 PM looks so much better painted

What video? I'd like to see that.
firecracker 11-21-2006, 07:05 PM Looks like it would work, huh? Good job.
BTW, I moved it to the DIY/Tech Tips forums
Nonpoint 11-21-2006, 07:13 PM ok, lol what did miss that was painted? http://www.docopharm.com/smilies/017.gif
the PVC in the first set of pics is unpainted like u would see under your house ... the second set has it finsihed and all painted up looking somewhat stealth ... nice work BTW
Toomnymods 11-21-2006, 07:22 PM im not using a fluid washer resevoir yet, might not even put it back it.. i know it's working truck seems to keep a nice hp increase past 60mph when you floor it it seems to move instantly vs. stalling and starving for air like before.. also after a 45 min drive today i got out and touched the aem tube and it was cold as the fender which is good.. so that tells me it's definatly getting much cooler air to the motor..
here's the vid of me purging my nitrous thru the cowl above the hood..

I put together something very similar to that on my old 91 5.0 mustang. The only thing that I did different was that I installed the filter at the end of the inlet tube at the point where the entered the car. But I guess you probably wouldn't see much of a difference than what you have now if you were to do that. Good job. I like it!
TEXASGIANT 11-21-2006, 09:59 PM Why do we keep going down and to the side with these home brewed sewer pipe intakes? Is there a reason we couldn't take one of these up and over the engine cover towards the rear of the hood and make some kind of real Ram Air through the hood. Or split it in front and go back along both sides of the cover with filters at the ends of the runners. With a long enough runner the air would be straightened out by the time it made the bend into the TB, right? I have always wondered how the rain doesn't get in with some of the intake systems. I keep seeing people talk about flow and direction of the air to keep it "clean" and spinning in a desired direction. After it the air gets "shredded" going through the filter all of the effort to keep it smooth is lost, right? I think that the best thing a guy could do is have a bigger box or a ready supply if you will so when it starts gulping air after you get on it you are not pulling it up a mile of pipe. After looking at many of the after market intake systems it looks like the filters with a closed end just plug the hole in the fender where the air is supposed to come in, Don't make much sense to me.
Just some observations, I aint no ingineer just think it could make us look at this from another angle.
Rossi 11-21-2006, 10:03 PM How long will it take to get your filter clogged up with bugs with that? should you screen it?
Toomnymods 11-21-2006, 10:24 PM doubt many bugs will make it up the "sewage pipe" it has a sharp 30-45degree bend that'll splat thier a$$ if they can make it past my billet grille..
TEXASGIANT 11-21-2006, 10:29 PM TMM I'm waiting, school me on intakes. Have any of my ideas been tried? or would I be wasting sewer pipe
Rossi 11-21-2006, 10:30 PM I'm not sure I could do this too my Injen intake...I think I'd cry if I cut a hole in the side of it's box. I may have to check it out though.....see if anything looks doooooo able.
tashadog 11-21-2006, 10:31 PM It looks awesome but I built a similar setup and the combination of wind force and rain cause water to get inside my intake box, which freaked me out. I did like the sound, and noticed a more responsive throttle like you said. If there were no bugs or rain I would have definately kept mine.
Rossi 11-21-2006, 10:34 PM You could cap it and only use it for track or good weather.
Boxerbay 11-21-2006, 10:41 PM You could cap it and only use it for track or good weather.
exactly... Rossi you're a genius! TMM do you have a data logger to do a before and after test? Probably more effective during summer when we starve for cool air.
Toomnymods 11-21-2006, 10:42 PM GR8titan over at titantalk has been using his for well over a yr said he never got any wet filter or rain in his airbox long as you have atleast 1 bend mine has 2, dunno will see, if my filter get's wet will see if they make a waterproof sock for the filter for rainy days..
float_test 11-21-2006, 10:56 PM Hey TMM, I think thats a good idea you picked up there. Was wondering did you feel any difference when you sealed your AEM and what materiel did you use?
Toomnymods 11-21-2006, 11:16 PM the stuff i sealed the aem box was with this stuff from Jegs.com really expensive but it definatly does the trick.. only problem after i sealed it when i punched it it would bog and you could feel thru the pedal it "starving for air" i was going to pull the wheel well liner but noticed if you did that the water from the rain on the road would get thrown all over the filter.. so that was out of the question..
here's the link to the stuff i used..
i bought the 59.00 box of it had maybe 10"x4" left when i was finished..

float_test 11-21-2006, 11:24 PM AH ok thanks! I was thinking of sealing mine where the inlet tube goes into the heat shield but i guess now that wont help but hurt?
Toomnymods 11-21-2006, 11:32 PM it helps keep the hot air out for sure.. it will try to pull more air from the fender but of course it has a harder time, nother thing that helped me till i did the ram air tube, take off ur grill and take the driver side black plastic piece off ur grille( it is the black piece on back of the grille that forces air onto the radiator..) it'll allow some air to travel behind ur headlight and into the fender zone where the aem can rob some of the air there that helped a lot..
float_test 11-21-2006, 11:42 PM Ill be doin the TBS mod thurs morning, ill check that out. thanks TMM
jtrich 09-17-2007, 04:28 AM Hey Tommy,
What angle and size elbows did you use?

NOTitan05 03-29-2008, 09:23 AM Does anyone have a parts list for this mod???
NOTitan05 03-29-2008, 09:56 AM Parts List?
Mychael101 08-14-2008, 05:45 PM Its not as easy as it looks. Believe me. And pick up a smaller windshield washer container before hand.
Mychael101 08-14-2008, 05:50 PM 90 degree for sure. Its not as easy as you would think. Its takes some time to do it correctly. A high power drill and good 4" holesaw are mandatory. Set aside an hour or two. I wanted to do mine but chickened out. Maybe tomorrow before the track.
Mychael101 08-14-2008, 05:56 PM I was wondering if he used 3" or 4" tubing. We tried the 4" and its going to be a PITA to get it to work properly on my volant box.
Mychael101 08-15-2008, 12:15 AM I second that. Did you go with 3" or 4" inner diameter pipe? Did you ever get a replacement washer fluid container?
christenayuca 03-13-2009, 06:00 PM how do you take off the windshield washer container ........i want to do it i just dont know how??
04titanss 03-14-2009, 09:51 AM how do you take off the windshield washer container ........i want to do it i just dont know how??
It is attached with a couple bolts on the top, remove t hem and pull up to get at the wiring.
baseballfanz 03-15-2009, 04:02 PM how do you take off the windshield washer container ........i want to do it i just dont know how??
There's two screws, one on the side next to the radiator the other from the front of the grill next to the headlight (driver side).
christenayuca 03-17-2009, 12:50 AM It is attached with a couple bolts on the top, remove t hem and pull up to get at the wiring.
cool thanks!:)
is there a way to relocate the container somewhere else???
baseballfanz 03-18-2009, 12:01 PM cool thanks!:)

I believed RBsTitan located his to the back side of the intake heatshield.
04titanss 03-19-2009, 06:54 PM This is how RB did his, I also did mine the same way.
