i've been reading about changing the rear diff oil. i have 170miles good idea to do it now or wait? another thing, should i add the lucas oil stablizer? i hear that stuff is good. i have a 91 nissan pathfinder with a lockright locker in the rear. i added that stuff in the the rear diff and it really quiets things down. you can't hear the ratchy noises from the locker and it keeps the diff cooler. so, anyone think that it's a good idea to add the oil stablizer? also i was checking out my rear diff and i have that aluminum cover on it. it also says 75-150 synthetic only.

I would wait a bit longer at least for the rear diff to fully break in nissan says 1200mi I did mine at 2500mi it up to you but I would wait at least 1200mi personally, also if you do a quality synthetic like mobil 1 or redline which has lsd friction modifiers in it already ya wont hear a sound out of the rear diff. good luck

Most of the folk who replace their fluid early are us '04 guys with sythetics. You have synthetic fluid in yours from the factory and you should not need to replace it so soon (it is $$ stuff). I would just check the level to make sure it is full.

What is the build date of your truck? If the cover says 75-140, then you're good to go for a good while - especially if you aren't towing anything. I've seen 05's with the cover that still said the old oil (75-90, I think). Anyhow, yours must be pretty new.

By the way, I would never put in any type of stabilizer in any of my oils. You shouldnt need any friction modifier either since these are open diffs. The limited slip is electronically controlled braking (not by clutches or gears in the diff like a traditional one).

the built date on mine is 03/05. so i'm open diff in the rear? i'm not limited slip? the brakes act like it? by the way, what's abls or albs?
The diff is open. ABLS is a type of limited slip where the system detects a spinning wheel and applies braking to that wheel so power is transferred to the wheel with traction.

I think Lucas oil has good products but todays oils are top of the line due to technology, you really should need any type of additives, but it probably wouldn't hurt anything either.
