Yes or no. Goval, I know your opinion, lol, I read your post. Any others want to chime in here? Is it worth it?

it was to me, but I use my truck as a truck and didn't want any other expense (trans, axle..etc) for the time I own it. I will sell when I hit 90K miles

it would depend on cost and how u use your truck also how much you drive it

Here are two things to consider.

1. The cost...Extended Warranties usually carry a whopping markup of between 40-70%. Bargain hard.

2. The term "Extended Warranty" is a misnomer...as it begins at Mile 1...not after the 3/36 and/or the 5/60 ends.

The dealership told me I could get a 7/70 for less than 2 grand. They also had a 7/100 I believe but did not get a price on that. I was told it was the same as a factory warranty and could be taken to any dealer to have work done on it. Also I could get my money back from the warranty if I sold the truck before the original ran out. I only talked to the salesman once and I could have something confused, but that definitely seems worth it to me, just haven't got around to purchasing it yet.

I figured the $2k for the chance of something break its not worth it.

That's about right...but whatever the "list price" is...offer a minimum of 50% less...the worst they can say is no.

Based on my experience, i would definately get the full extended warrany because on my titan, after driving 80,000 miles, every little thing decided to break on me from seatbelts, alternator, to rear suspension problems, to 4wd problems, and several other little things. if i would not have bought the 100,000 mile extended warranty, then i would be down several thousand dollars. in my case, putting up a little extra money in the beginning paid off in the end

Its been good for me I have had my truck in twice since I went past 36K. Recently for a cracked passenger side exhaust manifold.

I used to think extended warranties were only good for less reliable vehicles. Then, this past June, my wife's '02 Honda Odyssey (VERY good reliability rating) had a transmission problem at 106000 miles. Honda's transmissions are apparently difficult to work on. I was quoted several different prices - none less than $3500. I also did some research and found that my problem was fairly unique. Nobody at the dealership or online had heard of it before at such relatively low mileage. I will have an extended warranty on every vehicle I buy from now on. I just won't pay retail.

I ended up paying $1200 for the 7/70 AFTER the sales manager came in and said he would throw it in free if I signed that night. Went back the next day after seeing it on the invoice - we went back and forth - I did change from an XE to SE, and he said that was on the XE, tada tada tada. he ended up giving me the OEM fogs, installed, if I'd go away.

I'll be smarter next time... but, I will still get the extended - what is it called - I forget now, but it seems to cover more than the basic 3/36. Security Plus I think, or some such nonsense. Does it cover more???

Hi: I bought a 2006 just a couple of months ago, and decided (for the first time ever) to buy the extended warranty. I paid $1500 for the 7/70 coverage, but it also includes roadside assistance. But my Nissan dealership offers a deal where the warranty is fully refundable if not used, and I called and checked, and they say that technically roadside assistance and car rental aren't tracked in the system, so that use of those features won't count against the warranty.

So... if something goes drastically wrong, I'm covered, but if just minor stuff occurs after the factory warranty expires, then I have to make the decision to pay for it (to get the full refund of the extended warranty), or let it hit the warranty (and get no refund).

You might try to negotiate a full refund in like I have.

Sorry to keep going off topic, but I have a lot of knowledge on Honda/Acura products. The fact is the V6/5speed AT are actually not too durable. From the CL, TL, MDX, Odyssey, and V6 Accords......they have a WAY higher rate of failure than any other Honda transmission before. Honda has tried to sweep in under the rug per se by offering extra warranties and paying for replacement (and often times labor). But they will not do a recall. If you search again you will see it is common, and not unique. My boss' 2002 Odyssey tranny went out at 96k miles. Honda covered it.

But back ON toipic. I passed on the "extra warranty" offered by Nissan. I hated the fact that they actaully outlined in black and white the parts they cover. It is NOT a "bumper-to-bumper" that so many missinformed folks think it is. Plus my finance manager attempted to charge me almost $6k! What a d!ck. And that was only a 6 year warranty plus a deductible. If my Armada requires $6k of repairs in 6 years, I will burn it to the ground. lol

On my '89 SHO, the service guys ALWAYS found the problems that were not covered, but i had to fight them and have multiple trips back to get any warranty items covered. a real PITA!!! I don't expect this from my local deaslership - they are pretty cool. But, from others, I don't know...

I can't remember how much I paid for mine, but it was pretty cheap. I had told the finance guy "NO" like 5 times already and each time he just lowered the price. The guy wouldn't let up, so eventually I finally gave in. Seemed like a great deal and came with some type of anti-theft system which provided more insurance that would pay me if my vehicle was stolen. Which is good to have here in AZ which I believe is the car theft capital of the US. Also, with warranties, it seems to me if you don't buy them then you ended up needing them and when you do buy them you dont have any problems at all. Its kind of like car insurance, I'm pissed when I got to shell out $200 month for something that I am not seeing a return on, but the minute my wife totals her SUV, I will be damn happy it gots full coverage.

Yeah i would if I could go back and get it for cheap. Fricken Nissan didn't make the worst consumer truck 3 years in a row without anybody going to the stealership for repairs.
