OK there are a couple of places out there that can and have worked on the RE5R05A transmissions we have. One I knew from my racing days with mustangs in the 1990s - Level 10 (www.levelten.com) and also IPT Transmissions (www.ipttrans.com).
Here's what they offer:
Both do valve body modifications. You have to send yours in and they rework it. Apparently it is more invovled than the old days of drilling a hole in the separating plate in the valve body, they do more drilling and spring replacement. Price varires from $500 to $800 for this service. I also know that there are a few other places that do this for the 350Z autos so that's about right.
Torque converter mods:
Level 10 will do just about any stall speed you want for about $600. IPT will do the same for about $500. There are s couple of other places that can do it as well and they charge aboout $800 for the same service.
I'm sure that there are differences in what each place does so that's probably the difference in cost. Right now I'm leaning on IPT just due to the fact they are a little cheaper and the guy is trying to locate some parts so that I can mod mine on an exchange basis.
Just like the Hypertech thing, it probably wouldn't hurt to email these places and let them know you would be interested in better transmission stuff for our vehicles.
Another thing that I found while digging is that Alto offers rebuild kits for our transmissions as well. www.altousa.com
So the parts for these things are coming out. The nice thing is that the transmissions are shared with other vehicles so we're reaping benefits from that. And yes, they know there are differences with the transmissions from vehicle to vehicle so that's one big reason why I'd like an exchange part so that I can try it first without frying my stuff in the process.
