For those of you that added screws to the lid on the Volant intake, how did you do so? Did you use inserts like Volant uses?? I was looking at those t-nuts that are used on wood but I can't figure out how I would get them to stay in place on the plastic?? Just curious, mine defenitly needs the extra screws cuz the lid doesn't fit tight. Thanks in advance. :D

I just used # 8 screws with the wide head (panhead?). I also grabbed some rubber washers then drilled holes into the cover and screwed right into the airbox.

Would self tapping screws work? There seems to be a noticeable gap between my lid and box also.

Yes they will as long as they are small enough in diameter. You don't need anything larger then a #8, I think I used self tapping #6's in mine.

Thanks. Self tappers will make it much easier.

Thanks guys. I just wasn't sure if the plastic would be good enough to drill and tap into. I did notice that it was nice and thick though.

The lip on the box is quite thick. I drilled and tapped for 1/4-20 screws, the same size as the original four screws.

It seems like everyone is haveing the same problem and for the 250.00 we spent on the Volant CAI, the lid should fit properly WITHOUT MODDING it.
I called Volant last week about it and they told me to put weatherstripping on the box. I don't like that idea and the extra screws are ugly. What I think Volant should do is make the lid a little thicker and more rigid so it doesn't bow and send them to us. JMHO

It is my understanding that they are soon to replace the carbon fiber lid with a metal one on new purchases.
