I ordered the Ram tube with my Volant through the group buy and just figured out why Volant is looking for a 4X4 w/OR for designing their new ram tube. This was not a problem or even a question to me when I bought the tube. The tube gets its air from the hole in the bumper where the tow hook is. The tube goes straight back from this opening and then up to the bottom of the air box. Well the bracket for the skid plate sits right behind the hole for the tow hook so the tube would not be able to go there. I really hate returning things so I may manufacture a new Bracket that is a u bend and will allow the tube to pass through and still support the skid. I'll keep you guys posted if I do this.
If you do that, take plenty of pics. Maybe I can help you get a little something from Volant in exchange for you info on the fix!

While the Concept is good, the Ram air tube does absolutely nothing as far as HP gains....that's why Volant is looking for a truck...

The reason Joe w/ Volant was looking for a 4X4 w/ OR was to test fit the new molding made for the new ram scoop.....nothing to do with performance. The new ram air is finished, and test fit completed a couple weeks ago.
Send it back to Joe, and I'm sure he'll be happy to send you the new one (3rd Gen).

And you know this because????
What tests have you done to base your comments on?

I think that's a great question strick9, I would like to know as well Link..

The reason Volant doesn't dyno with the ram air is obvious.....you get no ram effect while truck is sittin' still on a dyno, therefore they can't claim any specific gains with it. I think the ram will give a slight increase in hp at higher speeds, although it takes like 160 mph to build even .5 psi of ram 'boost' to the throttle valve. You got to figure that you're usually running in a neg pressure in the intake anyway, so any increase (even if it gets you back to 0 psi) is a benefit. Plus you're effectively increasing the square area that the filter is open to by adding the ram air.

I have already made comments on this, But the Dyno thing is absolutely true, so we'll discount this and talk real-world. Now while the Cold air from the outside does make sense, the over all fluid mechaincs and heat transfer are so minimal that based on my back o the pizza bix calcs, and my friends calcs (Mastrers and PE in Mech Eng) were talking about a fraction of a degree in air temperature...remember under the hood is a constant temp for mosy apps...now for theoretical reasons if you took a 200 degree F steady under the hood temp and then immediately put on the COld air tube you'd see a slight gain in temp reduction thus HP, but obviously this isn't possible...
Oh and as far as boost with a ram air and a humongous intake pipe, forget it our trucks don't go that fast
Listen, I know some of you are gonna take this the wrong way, but I just tell it like it is, no offense need be taken.
Now again not putting down the VOlant, itas a good system, and so is hte AEM, K&N and Airraid...go with what you like, but I'd be leary of spending an extra 100 bucks or so for a piece of plastic tubing that will do nothing
