I have the tick/knock noise that makes it sound like a diesel as others have described it (sound only at idle from drivers side) had it a while anyway I already tried the ground wire no luck there so I took it to the dealer the said that it was the tsb ordered the parts, so I took it back in got it done everything was fine for about 45min or so then there it is again louder than before. I am starting to think that maybe my prob may be a bit more serious I am starting to get a few issues here very depressing.

That's a bummer, man. I have the 'diesel' knock too, but it's not too bad. I'm gonna have dealer do the tsb next time it's in. Is the tsb you're referring to the evap canister purge solenoid? Thanks...

I've got the same problem, just waiting for a day when I have enough free time to take it to the dealership also. Sorry to hear the dealer didn't fix your knock.

Yes sir evap tsb it did nothing for the tick, the dealer said they ran the test on the diagnostic tool and that was the prob. but still going strong I dont want to go back in until I have a better idea what it might be hopefully nothing to with engine internals, I really dont think so because it is intermittent I would think if it were an engine prob like that hemi tick that is there exhaust valve it would be there all the time anyway hopefully someone figures it out!!

Hey,
My wait for the purge valve was three weeks! My tick was not observed at idle, but at freeway speed either coasting (most of the time) or under light accel.
The service manager mentioned afterwards that the TSB was for the tick @ idle. However, the new part seems to have fixed my ping, which was getting worse and worse.

T Rex Glad to hear dude mine sounds like a different issue all together though it does sound like a diesel at idle with a tick that comes goes gets louder gets quiter I just dont know maybe I should check to see if I have a loose spark plug or something.

I had the notorious pass side engine tick that many have had, and it took a combination of doing the ground wire fix, plus reseating all the spark plugs, to get it to stop.

The diesel knock is a totally diff issue, though. On mine, it's a lower freq knock sound as opposed to the pass side tick I had. Guess I just need to get her in to the dealer for the evap purge solenoid TSB, and see if that does the trick.

I was just under the truck with it running and it almost sounds like it is coming from the exhaust on the drivers side I did'nt find any leaks but it sounds like it is coming from the little round piece just after the exhaust manifold only one side though I am assuming that that is a cat converter could it be bad?? sorry had to edit it is definatly a metalic sounding tick.

I've popped my hood when it was happening before, and its coming from the drivers side of the engine block, so I'm almost certain its the engine ping, and I only hear it at idle. Hopefully someone will figure out the rest of these little noises and let us know how to fix those also.

I've heard of a case or two (don't recall if here or at TT) where a loose heat shield on a cat conv was the culprit on a Titan.....maybe??

I read the TSB and took my Titan in to install the solenoid valve. The parts finally arrived yesterday so I dropped off the truck this morning. They called me and said that they ordered the wrong parts.

Be advised: They told me that the Titan valve they ordered is not the right one. The Titan actually needs the Pathfinder's solednoid valve. So they ordered that one...waiting to see. Might want to mention it to your dealers.

My truck same tic drivers side low. I will have to check the heat shield too, but only at idle.

sure does> I ask this question awhile back and was recommended to get the TSP or something similiar looked at. This I still need to do. Its dang annoying to hear at the drive thru when the sound bounces off the wall.

I am a mechanic of 15 years. I just bought a 2007 titan 2wd. I noticed this problem come about within the past 500 miles. its at 17,k. The noise seems to also affect the idle and acceleration. There is a 'lope'. Does not trigger the MIL. The driver side definately louder than the pass side from under hood, I removed and inspected all spark plugs and coils. OK, its not affecting the cylinder burn noticible at this point. I suspect something with oil pressure delivery left vs right to the valvetrain as the problem. When I have more information, I will post it.

Jesse

I figured something out with the left bank, It does one more thing than the right, It runs through a chain tensioner left bank lubrication only, For the right tensioner it uses pressure after the main berring..Which pertails to a prvious rarely known TSB, It is caused by a bad chain tensioner causing oil pressure to drop on the left side. At least on mine it is the problem, let me know if this solves yours. Past the TSB the fix should be a tensioner with a smaller oil release orifice and an upgraded oil pump.
