: Finally! Firestone Ride-Rite Airbags Have Arrived!

After nearly 3 months of waiting, UPS showed up at my door about an hour ago and dropped off my Firestone Ride-Rite Airbag Kit. IMHO, this is the only way to go if you tow a heavy trailer. With 5,000lbs of load leveling capacity you will max the truck out long before the rear-end sags. I will be installing them this weekend and posting pics and a mini review of the install. Stay Tuned!

cooooool, can't wait to see the install and how they work. Make sure to take lots of pics and put them in the how to section if you don't mind. I'm sure others will follow your lead with these air bags.

I definately will! See my updated first post. Is that a hoss of an airbag or what? I love it!

3 month wait!!?? Man, you got more patience than most! Glad you finally got them.....those look much more heavy duty than the crappy Air Ride ones I had on my Tundra. How long does Firestone warranty the bladders?

I'm actually self-employed and work from home so how is that for patience? Normally I would just take an afternoon off and go out there and knock it out but this week is a beast work wise not to mention getting taxes ready for the end of the weeks deadline. Come on Saturday!!!

I know I'm going to get lynched here but I will not be able to install the bags until tomorrow (Sunday). To many things came up today. I plan to attack the install first thing in the morning.

Bad News!!! First off they shorted me 4 - 3/8" nuts in the kit. Kind of frustrating but no biggie, I sent my neighbor down to the local auto parts store to pick a few up. I then proceeded to install the driver's side bag and spent over an hour loosening everything and trying to adjust the bag near the way it should look and no luck. This kit has got to be the most pathetic display of engineering I have ever seen! I have fabricated things in my garage with a die grinder and a hack saw that were twice as good a fit as this kit is. After almost 3 hours of wasted time (you heard correctly) I gave up (before I started cutting) and removed the driver side bag and all the brackets and hardware. I will be writing to Firestone in a few minutes to try and get this resolved. The upper bracket which is supposed to sit flush against the frame was raised up over 1/2" on one side even after 3 or 4 tries at adjusting it. The bracket was just plain cut wrong. See the photos below. It's a shame too because the quality of the parts seem first rate but they just blew it during R&D which is a double shame because this is apparently their second version. I will keep you all posted. Sorry.

Here's my inquiry to Firestone:

I received my Firestone Ride-Rite Kit Part #2364 after 3 months on backorder due to a redesign (so I was told). First off, I was shorted 4 - 3/8" nuts. Frustrating but not the end of the world. I sent my neighbor to the store to get me 4 but he could not find any. While he was gone, I proceeded to install the driver side bag per the directions (which could use some help, big time) and after 3 hours of loosening and retightening bolts and adjusting everything it still didn't fit right. The upper bracket won't sit flush against the bottom of the frame like it should basically because the bracket wasn't made right. The ear that contacts the cross member is cradling it perfectly but it's too long and thus prevents the load bearing portion of the bracket to contact the frame. Also, you can easily run out of threads on the bottom u-bolt before it's even tight. I don't want to sound inflamatory but this particular kit is a bad display of engineering. I'm sorry but I don't know any other way to put it. I want this kit to work but it just won't like it is. If you feel there is nothing wrong with this kit then make a me a deal. I will take it to an authorized installer of your choice and have them install it. If they put it in properly with no modifications to the kit, I'll gladly pay for the install. If not, you guys pay for the install and reimburse me half the cost of the kit for my trouble. You really need to take a third look at this kit, because it's not right and I am probably on the upper end of mechanically inclined people who will attempt this install themselves. I will gladly send you some photos from before I removed the driver side. It's clear to see, things don't look right. Please respond ASAP.

Hey hauler. In your first post of the back of the box that it came in it shows the Top bracket that you have, set up on top of the bag,,, It shows the bracket sitting on the springs. Not like how u have it. Would this work?

littlebuddha19

Can u remove the spring bump stop and take your top bracket and flip it over and mount it to the springs. and mount the angle bracket from the bottom and mount it to the top?

No, the kit is engineered to mount to specific places on the frame, crossmembers, etc. It is such a tight fit as it is, any deviation wouldn't fly. The picture on the box is a generic photo and not the same mounting style. The bumpstop is not in the way so removing it would be pointless. The way it is supposed to mount up is a decent design but the parts were either cut wrong or the kit engineered poorly from the get go. I will keep you posted.

Wow! Just read the thread. What a letdown from Firestone. Let us know what happens. Don't want to do business with someone who will not support their product.

I wrote them twice and NO response . . . I will be modifying the brackets this weekend and attempting the install again. I heard over on TT that Firestone discontinued the 4X2 kit for the Titan because they were having too many install problems. Big shocker!!! I will post results.

Not sure if Firestone has resolved this problem, but there are other companies that make airbags. Airlift comes to mind. As for TitanHauler, he moved on to an F-250 diesel.

If I Recall Correctly,
Titan Hauler Traded in his Titan for a F--- F350!!! :crying:

'cuz he couldn't get airbags, he had to go with a Bigger Truck.
