Had my stock tires mounted on helo maxx 6 rims today by tires plus and they were unable to use the tire sensores from the stock rims, I called the Nissan Dealership and they told me the sensors probably would not work. Problem was the air was leaking from the stem on all tires. Is this correct or improper install

The problem is the small seal on the sensors. They may not fit the hole in your new wheels. Also, did your installer make sure the seals were in place? I think with a little work, maybe trying different size O ring seals, you could get the sensors to work. Look at this drawing of the sensor:

My guess is they probably broke a sensor. Then, stuck them back in the new wheels and told you they aren't compatible. Do some homework...

Have a distributor, other than the installer if that's where you bought them, contact the wheel manufacturer. That factory should know if their wheels are compatible with the sensors. 1) If they are confirmed compatible, the installer messed up by breaking them during install, they owe you.
If they're confirmed NOT compatible, you may have to have them install new stems and live with that light until you figure out how to disable the monitoring system, if that's possible.

chefbob,

What was the outcome with the tire sensor issue? Were they able to get it fixed for you?

I may be getting new wheels soon and would like to hear about it.

Thanks.

Since I'm getting my new wheels installed today I've been trying to read up some on the tire pressure sensors. It seems there is realatively little known about them.

I've got a ton of questions but I doubt anyone knows.

First are there higher pressure sensors. My new tires will have a bit of a higher PSI and being a 45 series tire I wouldn't want to have to wait too long to be warned.

Second if I choose to leave them off do I have to deal with the light. Everything I have read says yes if you drive more then 30-45 minutes. These type lights bug the hell out of me. I suppose you could try to pull the wire being the display. But that may set off a check engine light.

Has anyone questioned there dealer...better yet....our Nissan people out there...ask if this feature can be turned off!!!

I still have not been back to the tire store but I plan on it. My low pressure light has never come on though, I am not sure I am going to worry about it.

I've mentioned this previously in another post on this subject, but when I installed my wheels I just had chrome stems put in and left the sensors in my stock wheels (with the tires still mounted). Around town I never get the indicator light for tire pressure. Occasionally on the highway, the light will come on but the alarm never sounds. Once I stop and then restart the engine, the light goes out. I've not tried to disable the system in any way. I've had my wheels for several months now, and rarely get a light. I wouldn't worry about it when installing aftermarket wheels.
