: PRG front and back lift installed w/help of Jettech!
Trogdor 04-15-2005, 12:29 PM Well, I finally was able to get over to Dale's house yesterday afternoon/evening and call on his infinite expertise to help me (and I needed a *lot* of help) to install the PrerunnerGreg front 2 inch lift and rear 1.5 inch blocks on my 04 SE Off Road, Big Tow, 2wd Titan.
Here are some highlights of the install:
1) The white gloves. At first, I declined the gloves - what's a little dirt, huh? One wheel and a pound of brake dust later, the gloves were on - and man were they sweet. MrsJettech actually took a picture of us with the gloves on - hopefully, she or Dale will post it up here.
2) Air tools are awesome. Need I say more?
3) I've got major mod-envy now for a dual exhaust a la Gibson. Ignorance WAS bliss. Oh well.
4) The rookie that I am, there was a moment where I was trying to jack the rear up a bit more and it wasn't going anywhere. Dale couldn't figure out what was wrong with the jack - not b/c it was some kinda complex problem, but because the solution was so simple: I hadn't locked the jack fully back after having lowered it a bit. I think I mentioned that I work in accounting ...
5) Having the helper aka Jettech springs installed by Dale, himself. Doesn't get much better than that.
6) Finally, after all the hard work Dale wants to take a look under the hood. Though I may not know my way around my vehicle 100%, I know enough to know that when someone who DOES know what they're doing wants to look under your hood, you let them. Dale used to inspect aircraft, so he's good at "looking around". Well, in the process of looking, he noticed that there might be a leak in my fuel injectors. So today, my truck is actually at the dealer - NOT to get aligned (b/c they don't have a machine big enough for Titans - yeah, hard to believe), but to get the injectors looked at AND to replace my audio head unit. Thanks, Dale,
So all in all, the install was flawless. I learned a ton and my truck is about 100% more awesome - which I didn't think was possible. Now the Burninator is up about 2 in the front and 3/4 inches in the back (1.5 block + helper springs). It rides smoother and the traction from the JT helper springs is amazing - corners, accelleration, braking - all are better.
Once I get it cleaned up a bit, I'll be sure to post some pictures.
THANKS PRG for a great kit! And THANK YOU DALE for all your help.
QWIKWHIP 04-15-2005, 12:38 PM Congrats! Wouldn't life be soooo much better with more people like Prerunner Greg and Jetech Dale! :D Now post those pics!
(lol, I know, you were still waiting for me to post a pic for you, I just haven't had the time lately, it's been crazy. :( ) :D
JetTech 04-15-2005, 11:02 PM It was a pleasure meeting you trogdor and working with you last evening. I'll post a pic that mrsjettech took of us sporting our infamous white gloves.
All in all the truck turned out great, it looks awesome in black with the off road package, and now it looks even better with the front and rear PRG blocks installed. For those that don't know trogdor has, what is....and will continue to be a rarity, a 2 wheel drive (off road) Titan. To the best of my knowledge Nissan no longer offers the off road in the 4X2's. So for those of you that have one, they are a keeper!!

JetTech 04-16-2005, 08:09 PM Hey Justin, I installed the rear blocks on my truck this morning and my U-Bolts didn't stick out beyond the nuts more then 1/2" at the most. I know yours were REALLY hanging out there. When you get a minute can you measure the length of one of them and I'll compare it to mine. Perhaps Greg can chime in here and tell us if there are different lengths. Here's a pic of what mine look like.......

Kopperking 04-16-2005, 09:27 PM Well it SOUNDS Great.
Now, Where are the Pics of your "Lifted" O/R 4X2?
I wanna SEE what Mine will look like!

Yours are the way they should be. Greg has different length bolts for the different blocks. He also said he may have made some too short. Greg is sending me a new set of bolts cuz mine are one of the ones too short. They are about 1/8" inside the nut still on my truck. Greg told me he is making them so they should stick out about a 1/2" past the nut, so yours are perfect. :)
JetTech 04-16-2005, 10:19 PM Hi qwik, did Greg mention anything about any of the bolts being too long? The ones we installed on Justins truck the other night are sticking out beyond the nuts about 1 1/2" to 2"....looks really bad...
Trogdor 04-16-2005, 10:50 PM http://img206.echo.cx/img206/1295/prgangle9mz.jpg
this is a big one:

JetTech 04-16-2005, 11:05 PM That looks great Justin......
I installed mine this morning along with the helper springs and it raised the rear by 1". I measured from the centerline of the rear wheel to the top of the wheel well opening and went from 39 3/16" to 40 3/16". I'm still curious if we have different springs due to mine being a 4x4 because it looks jacked up big time now. When you get a chance measure yours and let me know. Heck measure the front height too so we can compare....
Also you may want to get with Greg on Monday and see if he sent you the wrong U-Bolts. Yours were way too long. We can change them out in just a few minutes if he decides that he sent you the wrong ones.
Trogdor 04-16-2005, 11:29 PM Yeah they are way long ... haven't had a chance to measure HOW long they are, but they're definitely sticking out there. I'll get on it tomorrow and see what my final measurements are .... I know that prior to the lift in the back, I was sitting at 38 inches on the back ... so I would think that now it would be around 39. The front was around 35.25 before, so I would expect it to be around 37.25.
Kopperking 04-16-2005, 11:31 PM It doesn't look as bad as I thought it would.
Now, you gotta get some "Wackers"!
JetTech 04-16-2005, 11:34 PM I just went out and measured my front height and it is 38 1/2".....So there must be a difference in spring rates concerning the 4x2 and 4x4's. Although I didn't expect it to be this much. If you get crawling around under your truck anytime in the near future I would like to know if we have the same part number rear shocks. If so your not even close to over extending your rears and probably won't have to be concerned about replacing them.
Trogdor 04-16-2005, 11:37 PM So I guess my initial thought is that yes, the 4x4s are higher than the 2wd's from the factory - whats your front like?
Trogdor 04-16-2005, 11:38 PM wow ... little slow on that post ... man makes me wonder if I shoulda gone with the 2.5 inch front and 2 inch rear .... nothing like second guessing AFTER the install.
JetTech 04-16-2005, 11:44 PM wow ... little slow on that post ... man makes me wonder if I shoulda gone with the 2.5 inch front and 2 inch rear .... nothing like second guessing AFTER the install.
Oh heck no, yours looks awesome!!!! I'm just curious as to the differences between our suspensions. I would have guessed "off road" is "off road", regardless of whether it's on a 4x2 or 4x4. It appears I guessed wrong. I bet Greg probably knows all the differences between the suspensions from the research he's done. Maybe we can get him to chime in here and educate us...
Trogdor 04-16-2005, 11:48 PM Dale, we need a new pic with yours in its "final state"
JetTech 04-16-2005, 11:50 PM I'm going to give it a bath in the morning, I'll get some pics afterwards and post them. All I can say is it looks WAY up there. I guess because I'm not used to it looking this way. My wife says running boards are a must now....
QWIKWHIP 04-17-2005, 11:20 AM Hi qwik, did Greg mention anything about any of the bolts being too long? The ones we installed on Justins truck the other night are sticking out beyond the nuts about 1 1/2" to 2"....looks really bad...
He didn't say anything about some being too long. He did say that most standard u-bolts are long and then cut after the install. Greg is making them "precut" because the ones he sells are a much harder, better quality bolt than the standard ones and he said his are very difficult to cut. I wonder if he's running into the same problem with the rear as he found with the front spacers...."that all trucks are not created equal" :D

I think the biggest difference is the difference between 4x4 and 2wd. Personally, I'm a little agitated that Nissan didn't equalize a 2wd OR with a 4x4 OR. I mean, isn't that the whole point of getting the OR package? Based one what I know right now, you can't really use spacers/blocks to equalize a 2wd OR and a 4x4 OR for the above reason. :(
That said, the ride improvement from the PRG kit is great (for the front). I used to have the harshest bump at my apt complex that now feels very VERY smooth.
I have heard some noises coming from my rear end on bumps and it makes me think that my OR shocks are topping out. It's a little hard to analyze though b/c I also got the helper springs at the same time, so I can't exactly isolate the two noises. Anyone know what topping out would feel/sound like?
Oh - and back to the ubolts - they aren't just a little bit too long for mine. You could easily at another one to 1.5 inches on my block and still use the same ubolts.
kytitan 04-17-2005, 04:24 PM Looks great, nice work guys. :D
Trogdor 04-17-2005, 07:33 PM Looks great, nice work guys. :D
Thanks ... well I did some measurements this afternoon and took a couple pictures of my ubolts. First off, the measurements. The front seems to be sitting at around 36.75 inches and the rear is at 38.5 ... this is a bit surprising and I almost want to go out and remeasure it b/c before the PRG kit, it was at 35.25 and 38. The big question is: where did the .5 inches go on the front if it was a 2 inch spacer (it seems it only lifted the front 1.5 inches)? Maybe I mismeasured the first time, but I don't think so. Any thoughts?
So here are the ubolts:

Pretty long ubolts eh?
JetTech 04-17-2005, 08:15 PM Hey trog, I would send that pic to Greg in case he doesn't see it on this thread and see what he recommends. We can change them to the proper length ones in a matter of just a few minutes. If you're going to make a trip down here then you might as well pick up a set of carbotech front pads and make it worth your while... :moonwalk: Also bring a catback exhaust and Volant with you too.....oh heck, just give me a blank check and I'll have everything here waiting on ya...

Since your full of energy Dale, when you are finished with Justin's truck, how about coming up here and washing mine?
PrerunnerGreg 04-17-2005, 11:12 PM Looks like i cut your u-bolts the wrong length. I cut a couple too short at first and since made all the measurements i could to get the proper lenght. Looks like another set ill be sending out. Sorry about that justin. They should be 1/2" longer than the nut. As for the differece, the 4x has a 3/4" taller spring perch and uses a longer overload leaf. The 4x o/r shocks are longer than the 2x, and could easily be used as a replacement for a 2x with a 1-2" block. Justin, if you want to go to the 2.5" front kit let me know and I will send it out with the new u-bolts. Sorry about the confusion guys...ill make sure you get the right parts. bixll and qwik, your bolts will ship tomorrow.
baja220 04-18-2005, 04:30 AM Truck looks good Trogdor!!! After seeing all these PRGed trucks, I'm beginning to rethink lowering the back to level mine. I emailed Greg about it, but didn't here back from him.
OK, who lives in my area to put mine on???? I have gloves!!!
bfiii12 04-18-2005, 12:12 PM What kind of alignment have you had to do, just to drive the truck. How bad was your alignment before you took it to the alignment shop?
Just wondering. Before I order my kit.
Trogdor 04-18-2005, 12:41 PM Thanks Baja- get the kit it's awesome!
Bfiii, I drove about 60 miles before getting it aligned - granted, we had adjusted the toe, but anyhow, it was driving fine although it still DID need to be aligned.
I highly recommend the kit - improves the look AND the drive. You can't beat it and Greg is reknowned for his customer service (and my experience with him has been nothing short of excellent)
bfiii12 04-18-2005, 12:53 PM Thanks Trogdor. I have been going to get the kit for some time now, but just haven't pulled the trigger.
JetTech 04-18-2005, 01:04 PM Hey Justin, how far was your alignment out? I'm wondering how close I was with the one full turn out on each tie rod end.
Trogdor 04-18-2005, 01:12 PM Off the top of my head it was maybe .23 or .28 or both ... I'll take a closer look this afternoon.
JetTech 04-18-2005, 06:36 PM Heyyyy, not a bad guess on the tie rods. Heck man, factory spec is .10 so we weren't too far off with going one full turn on each tie rod end. Cool and thanks for letting me know.
Kopperking 04-18-2005, 06:48 PM Is the "Tow" the only thing that needed adjustment?
Trogdor 04-18-2005, 06:51 PM Good question. Actually, I think you're supposed to adjust your headlights, but I haven't. That said, I think my angle might be okay since my rake only changed about one inch. I could be wrong though.

I was talking about your Alignment. Space Cadet.
(Just like Havok, you get your head in the Clouds...)LOL!! :beating: :roflmao:
JetTech 04-18-2005, 06:55 PM We can adjust your headlights on your next trip down here if you want. Wait a little while and see if they look too high or people flash you their high beams. That's usually a good sign they're too high...
HavockWK 04-18-2005, 10:07 PM Good question. Actually, I think you're supposed to adjust your headlights, but I haven't. That said, I think my angle might be okay since my rake only changed about one inch. I could be wrong though.
Hey dude, congrats on the PRG kits! Like you I have a 4x2 OR, but I did a 2.5" front and 1.5" rear so I am about 1/2" more level than you. My headlights weren't high before I started and still aren't high now. The main thing isn't how high you lifted the front, it is how the angle has changed because of changing the rake. If you lift the entire truck 2" and keep your 2" lift, your head lamps will have the same projection angle, just will have more light inside the miata in front of you at the stop light. If you level the truck, your headlamps will project at a higher angle and will carry that further down the road to blind the drivers in front of you.
Keep an eye on where your beams hit cars in front of you at stop lights and also when you drive on a road with bushes or something close enoguh that you can see the full beam all the way in front of you.
HavockWK 04-18-2005, 10:25 PM Oh yeah, here some info for you on your rear shocks. For the 4x2 OR, the 1.5" kit is too long for the factory Ranchos. But, I have never had a problem with normal daily on road driving. I have only had it bottom out when cruising over speed bumps too fast at Wal-Mart or when I drove over a parking bumper at a slight angle so that one side of the axle dropped a few inches before the other one.
When I first talked to PRG about this setup, I told him I was planning to use the helper springs to lower the backend closer to the operating range for the shocks. For now I just take the speed bumps slow and try not to drive over anything with too much axle articulation. I still haven't even bought them because I love the way my truck looks now. I so suffer from axle wrap, so I still need the helpers, but... Dang that PRG just made my trucks @$$ look kick @$$!
Trogdor 04-19-2005, 12:08 PM I've got the helper springs on ... I think I have topped the shocks out once or twice (heard a huge racket once on a bump). I try to take care over speed bumps. That said, I'm just kinda biding my time hoping that Bilstein hooks us up with something that doesn't require machining to use on the Titan.
I remeasured my height last night and I'm stupid b/c I can't measure, apparently. My front is now sitting at 37 1/4 and my back is at 38 3/4. This is exactly what was predicted - two inches in the front and 3/4 in the back (1.5 inch block + -3/4 inch helper springs).
docopharm 04-19-2005, 12:58 PM Either one of you guys planning on taking a vaction in NC? I just ordered my PRG and would love to have someone knowledgable to help with the install   . Thanks for the offer! Although, it might just a WEEEEE bit out of your way, lol. I'm about 3 hrs south of Richmond off I-95, but it's probably a good 4-5 hr trek from Boone. But hey, if you're out this way..the offer for for free beer still stands (install or no install)!! :D
