I and alot of the members use Mobil 1. I started at my first oil change (1,500 miles) and have used it since.

If you start using Synthetic now, don't stop.

I always get my servicing done at nissan, so ill just tell them 2 make a note that its synthetic from now on.

Do you think tehy would get royal purple for me? lol....I was guessing it would be mobil-1, isnt that whats used in the z?

Nissan suggests mobil1 for synthetic oil. If you bring your own royal purple, they will use that. Don't use a synthetic blend! If it has any dino-oil in it, it makes the synthetic portion useless.
Contrary to popular concensus, you can switch from synthetic back to dino-oil. It's not recomended to switch back and forth often though. Don't put synthetic in older (high-milage) cars, as they don't seem to be able to hold onto synthetic oil.

I'm getting my dif. oil changed to synthetic next month before I drive to Chicago.

Can we just delete this thread, I could write a 10 pager on the misinformation in it.

You can switch oils all you want with no ill effects.

Synthetic blends are not useless because they contain ground based petrol. Heck, most every synthetic that is advertised in ths USA is hydrocracked or wax isomer, GROUND BASED petrol. This includes many of the Non-Extended Performance Mobil 1 products.

The only reason a manufacturer would recommend one brand of oil over another is an advetising agreement. i.e. Shell with Ferrari and BP with Ford.

This is not an attack on anybody, just the misinformation itself.

My dealership told me not to waste my time, they can just use a synthetic blend... so I just changed my own with the Amsoil.

Can you tell I don't like my dealership much??

Your best bet would be to run down to Walmart and grab you Two 5qt. Mobile 1 containers of your choice. You need two cuz truck takes 7 qts. They will give you the Half empty container back, and then your next change you only need to buy one 5qt. It's the cheapest place your gonna find it, and you won't give the dealership the opportunity to charge you 8-10 a qt. for it. I use the Mobile 1 15,000 mile protection, but change it every 7,500. Actually alot of members do this. The Nissan Oil filters are fine, no one has had a problem with them.

Many members have also changed the diffs to mobile 1 too. Amsoil is a great choice too. Royal purple is great lube and made for racing engines, but expensive, and really overkill for a street truck.

That is correct. You can go from syn to blen to dinoil all you want.
Blend IS better than dinoil, Syn is definitely the best.

Blends:

Synthetic Blend oils are more marketing in and of themselves. You pay a dollar or more extra per quart to get a 10-15 percent synthetic content. Instead, just buy a 5 quart jug of your favorite 5w30 dino and add 2 quarts of a nice synthetic like Mobil 1 or Syntec. You'll pay the same out of pocket and have a better percentage of synthetic content.

No, you won't have any mixing problems. Don't ask. Do you really think every drop comes out when we change the oil. About a quart and a half stays in the lines and on the walls of the engine.

My dealer carries mobile 1.

I had them get me special oil so I could blen my own, and the change cost me $70. never again. I was in a hurry. what a rip.

back to my local garage for oil and filter...

The oil is what cost you. The actual labor only cost you about 20 bucks.

Don't think you'll get a better deal at Jiffy lube. Not only do those KIDS not know crap about Titans, but a full syn lube change for our trucks costs upwards of $75 bucks there. Why cuz they charge you 9.99 or more a qt for synthetic. I did that ONCE. NEVER AGAIN.

My dealership only charges me about $19 for labor and filter, which is less than regular price, cuz I bring my own oil, so they have to deduct that from the regular price.

The stealership will charge too much for Mobil 1. Bring your own oil there.

my dealership charges me $50. The local shop charges $70 and the owner has told me on more than one occasion that he hates working on Nissans!
