: "Service Engine Soon" Light -- Any updates?
340ciTitan 04-23-2005, 08:17 PM Picking up my son earlier tonight, I started the truck and the SES light is staying on. 6,500 miles. Checked the gas cap, that's ok. I am also waiting for new rotors (on order) to come in, so it's going back to service for that, so I am not too concerned about getting the light re-set.
I read some old posts via the search regarding turning the key on, pumping the gas pedal, getting flashes of lights at .06 of a second, 10 flashes = Zero, etc. Guys, I haven't factored a polynomial in years, and I am not about to factor one tonight.
Anyhow - since these historic posts on reading codes are a little aged, any updates on what the dealer has found on low-mileage SES "on" complaints at the dealership. Did it turn out to be a bad sensor somewhere? False alarms? Any insight appreciated as I eagerly look forward to my next day without the truck.
Be good - Jim

Sorry Jim but I've just got to know the answer to this one. If you're not willing to go out there and find out the code, knowing it could be hundreds of things, then why are you asking for insight? There is no insight when there are that many variables involved.
Does this have something to do with you reaching a different posting status?? Like shift lurker to awesome subscriber...
340ciTitan 04-23-2005, 09:41 PM JT - It looks too complicated (it probably isn't) to find the code manually. It's been a long day. Besides, I know it's nothing major, so I can wait until my next trip to the dealer. In the meantime,
I guess what I was asking was, historically, what has been the most common cause for this light to come on, i.e. the results after one takes it to the dealer.
I know in the Durango - 9 times out of 10, when the light came on, you could bank it was either going to be the front or the rear speed sensor(s).
I was just curious if the Titan had a frequent "cause" like this for this SES light.[/i]
JetTech 04-23-2005, 10:04 PM I really don't know what would be the most common cause for the SES lights to come on. For most vehicles a loose gas cap is the first place to look but I haven't read where anyone has had this occur with their Titans. There doesn't really seem to be any trends yet.
The code extraction method, using the gas pedal, is really quite easy. I bet it wouldn't take you 5 minutes to do it.
340ciTitan 04-23-2005, 10:13 PM I'll give it a shot tomorrow JT. I have been working on a paper all night and pop in here every now and then when I need a break. I think I need an 8 hour break on the Swedish foam upstairs right about now.
I'll post the results tomorrow sometime. Have a good one my friend - Jim

Probably 3 minutes! It really is an awesome feature of the Titan. I wouldn't be able to sleep tonight without knowing that code!!! It's a good idea to get it yourself just so you have some insight when you take it to the dealer.
340ciTitan 04-24-2005, 07:46 AM Well, as usual - you guys were right. It took a whole 5 minutes to get the codes. I popped a 1031 and a 1148.
1031 - Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor Meter
1148 - Closed Loop, Bank
Looks like the dreaded Service Bulletin Number : 04032
Ya think???

JetTech 04-24-2005, 08:18 AM Personally I think I'm glad you got the codes...
And yes, it looks like your going to get the latest ECU flash done. This might be a really good thing because I've read where some people gained gas mileage after having this done. I had it done on the 4x2 I used to own and it didn't make a difference with it but you could be one of the lucky ones. Please let us know if it does. I just hope the dealer doesn't clear the code and send you on your way, hoping it doesn't return... :nono:

I'm glad you're glad. I know I am! I think...
So they flashed the ECU on your Titan #1, eh? Any sensor replacements? Since it'll be going in for the brakes, I may as well be prepared for this issue. I think I'll spit-up if I hear "the (insert part here) isn't in stock, we will have to order it and you'll have to drop it off for another day." To pre-empt this, I will leave him a message with the codes I have popped and hopefully he'll order what's needed -- if anything -- based on my call to him/self-diagnosis. Hell, he should trust me by now -- he's seen me enough! -- Thanks for your help JT (and Titan Hauler) for your encouragement to try this -- this was an easy one, and I am glad this forum "showed me the way." - Jim

Well thanks but I can't take any credit since Jet was the one who told me about the diagnostic feature when I had an exhaust leak. Gotta love the forum!
