Stone ships suck!
That said; can anyone give me some advice on prep and repair. most of them only look like they go to the grey (I assume primer). with steep sharp edges. I have some left over paint they gave me after the egg incedent. http://www.clubtitan.org/forums/showthread.php?t=23560&highlight=egg

Should I just fill in the chip with paint or do I need to sand, feather, prime, fill and then what about the clear coat?

btw: This new page is great! Thanks!

If they are small you can use a toothpick too fix them. Just dip the end in your paint and then touch it too the chip.

a toothpick can work quite well but if you're thinking of it looking like OE, then sand, prime, pray, spray, rinse, repeat...

After that, go buy that clear 3M paint protection.

Unless you clear over the entire panel, you'll still be able to tell where the spot was. If you have a heavy metallic color like Smoke, forget about it. It'll never look right.

It's best just to fill the chip with touch-up paint, wipe the excess off with lacquer thinner, and then call it a day. Otherwise, you risk a hefty $$$$ repair bill to get it like OE. Once you start sanding the clear and reach to the basecoat you're screwed. At that point, you have an expensive repair job that will require a good bodyshop to fix.

Solvent blends used by those mobile paint repair guys will make it worse because the paint they use usually doesn't match and solvent blends don't hold up in the long run. This is probably why the major paint manufacturers will not warranty a "solvent blend" repair from fading, cracking or peeling.

Do yourself a favor and try not to make a $10 paint chip repair job into a $500 multi-panel repair job. Trust me, the clearcoat is mighty thin on these trucks. Paint chips suck, but they're a fact of life I guess with these trucks.
