: DVD Player Questions
JetTech 04-25-2005, 05:29 PM I'm starting to get real serious about adding a DVD player in my truck. I found this one at best buy the other day http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=5989157&type=product&productCategoryId=cat03096&id=1061769817832 and it looks to be a nice unit. It's the size I'm looking for as opposed to the size of factory units that are offered.
My question is, if I get this unit, how on earth would I mount it to the roof?? I removed my current, rear radio control overhead, and it seems that there is a much bigger opening in the roof then what would be needed for this player. I need suggestions big time please.....This is so not my specialty.......
Thanks in advance all,
Dale
llajumpvid 04-25-2005, 06:56 PM I've see a few who have made a cover for the hole, and then mounted the dvd to the cover. One I believe was made out of a plastic butcher block. I think it was on this forum so I bet you will get a better reponse with links soon...
JetTech 04-25-2005, 07:15 PM Thanks lla....I would probably be better off letting a professional do this but it's just not my nature. BUT, if most agree that this is something that is better left to a professional, I will certainly do that.
One idea I had is to modify the existing overhead panel and just mount the monitor to it, rather then mounting the monitor assembly that includes lights. Oh heck, who am I trying to fool, I don't have the first clue as to what I'm talking about.... :beating: :coffee:
jerseyparts 04-25-2005, 07:19 PM did you check with best buy? they usually have INSTALL kits designed just for Titans, and this will have a bracket you can add, the the console, and it will then bolt in....
JetTech 04-25-2005, 07:28 PM I talked with a best buy installer yesterday but he said he had never done a Titan, and wasn't sure what all would be needed. He did have a few good ideas when it came to a little face plate that I could plug in a PS2. That would look nice and keep things clean looking.
JetTec, Call your local Nissan dealer and see who they use to do their installs. That way you know that they have done Nissan vehicles and you can ask what they can do size wise.
I did this when i had my DVD install done.

Now that's a good idea, thanks Nik...
llajumpvid 04-26-2005, 01:23 PM I KNOW you can do this as I've seen all the other stuff you've done which requires alot more skill than this. Here is the link to the one install I remember. I couldn't find the other install but it was similiar. The other install looked cleaner as they wrapped it in fabric that matched the headliner.

JetTech 04-26-2005, 04:00 PM Oh my goodness man!!!! That system is the best I've seen, except for the cutting board, but heck man.......that is what I WANT!!!! I'm totally blown away by that install though, that guy did a great job..
Thanks for the link lla, now I've got more options.....
JetTech 04-26-2005, 06:41 PM Ok lla, I contacted starvision and they said they don't sell to the public but gave me a website addy of one of their retailers.
Here's the details on the monitor that the guy over on TT used, http://www.webzone.us/audio/product.php?productid=16375&cat=251&page=2 the price includes headsets and a bunch of other things. Actually if all I wanted was the monitor it is listed cheaper then that guy paid for it.
And here's the link http://www.webzone.us/audio/product.php?productid=16331&cat=251&page=2 for the other one I was looking at. Their prices are just incredible!!! What do you think??
Thanks,
Dale
Just as an added note, I like the one in second link I attached. It's 15.2" but the monitor mount looks much more stable. The 13.3" is on a swivel, and if it's like the one at Best Buy that I looked at, it will tend to move around/bounce a little too easily. That was one thing that I didn't like about the swivel monitors.
Oh, and thanks for the vote of confidence....I think I will do this myself...
llajumpvid 04-26-2005, 07:53 PM That is one hell of a good deal on either one for just the monitor, throw in the other goodies :dance2: . Some people complain about anything over 7 to 8" screen blocking the rearview, but you know on my Armada even with the factory bin down I can't see crap out the back, so I'd go with the 15" on a Titan. The Armada I'd stay with a smaller screen as the whole roof system is weak would likely bounce to much. Sweet find!
JetTech 04-26-2005, 08:06 PM Thanks lla, I checked around to see if I could find it cheaper else where but no one could touch that price that included the DVD player and all of the goodies that come with it. Well I think that's the one I'm going to order, as a matter of fact I think I'll order it tonight. My next plan is to make an underseat storage unit like the one in this link http://www.clubtitan.org/postt3244.html then mount a DVD player and a sony PS2 in it. I think it would look great and be a nice clean install. What do ya think??
Wow! That's gotta be a typo, lol. All of that for under $600. Would you do the install yourself or let a stereo guy do it for you. That one might not require white gloves.

It's not a typo, thank goodness. lla has given me the confidence to do this myself so that's what I'm going to do. I'll start on the underseat storage unit this weekend, making 2 cutouts in the center, one for the DVD player and one for the PS2 with the DVD on the top. Then while I'm at it I might as well do 2 more cutouts on each side for 2 big *** speakers to help with the overall sound. This is going to take me some massive amounts of time because number 1.....I HATE working with wood (the underseat storage) and two, I know very little about wiring in sound systems. So this is going to be quite a huge undertaking for me because this stuff is all new to me. But it sounds like the end result will be awesome, at least I hope so... :learn:
JetTech 04-26-2005, 09:11 PM Ok, I just ordered the 15.2" monitor along with all the stuff that comes with it from webzone. All of it came to $573.50 including shipping!!! Now I need to start looking at speakers. First I need to find out how tall the underseat storage will be and what will be a reasonable size speaker. Any tips on a decent priced, good sounding speakers??? Maybe 6, 8 or 10"?? I assume round would be a good choice?? It's becoming painfully obvious I'm not an audiophile isn't it??? :beating:
raskm 04-26-2005, 10:42 PM This is what I did if you need some ideas....I found the power for the monitor just lying in the ceiling..Just a connector if you have the factory DVD Mon

JetTech 04-27-2005, 05:50 AM Excellent looking install and thanks for the ideas. When all the stuff starts to come together I'm going to need all the help and ideas I can get.... :)
JetTech 05-03-2005, 04:36 PM Well the DVD and all of the accesories arrived today. I'm not so sure a 15.2" monitor was one of my better ideas.... but hey, it should look good after I get it all installed. This is going to be one heck of a project, I can see that right now. Is it ok if I don't count the hours spent on doing it??...

This isn't going to be another headers trip is it JT? LoL...I'm curious to see pics of this...and how much of your roof you have to tear down.
JetTech 05-03-2005, 04:39 PM I bet it takes the same amount of time Rossi... But the good news is this should work, whereas the headers......well....
One major bummer is I've been sick to the point of death for the last few days. That's the reason I've been on here so much lately...so it may be a few days before I can sink my teeth into it.
Rossi 05-03-2005, 04:42 PM well hope you feel better soon and well all be looking forward to the ever excellent JT how to pics.
JetTech 05-26-2005, 04:06 PM Ok all, it's almost complete. I still need to wire up the aux. inputs but other then that all is done. I decided against installing the PS2 because there just wasn't much room over the center hump, but it works great plugged into the DVD player and inverter!!
Here's some pics, tell me what you all think...

Rossi 05-26-2005, 04:09 PM That screen is freaking HUGE!!! Kids should love it.
JetTech 05-26-2005, 04:12 PM That screen is freaking HUGE!!! Kids should love it.
My son loves it, he was playing spongebob on it through his PS2 last Sunday and it was amazing. It certainly is big enough so you don't lose any detail with the PS2 games, and that was my overall goal.....so I'm very pleased. Also the carpet on the storage unit looks darker in pictures but I can't tell a difference when looking at it. The camera flash must be hazing it out a bit.
Yeh well Im pretty jealous now. lol looks great man. It looks huge too.

Hey, thanks for noticing big boy....
It sits far enough away from the back seats that you don't feel like it's too close. And luckily it's far enough back from the front seats that I don't see it out of my peripheral vision.
JetTech 05-26-2005, 04:32 PM I do need a favor from one the king cab owners here. I would like to know how long the rear factory mats are. I can't find anyone local that will cut and surge my floor mats so they come up to the storage unit and was hoping I could just order a set of king cab mats....Please!!!
Thanks...

JetTech 05-26-2005, 04:46 PM Thanks rossi.....That answered that question... I need one 20" long...Oh well, I'll just have to do some more searching for someone with a surging machine. Thanks again rossi!!

Cut it....how good are you with a sewing maching...using a razor blade cut the stitching on the..uummm....border fabric....then cut the mat to the link you want and sew the border back on and cut the excess off.......
JetTech 05-26-2005, 04:55 PM I wouldn't mind trying that rossi but the surging goes through the rubber bottom of the mat, and that would require one heck of a tough sewing machine...

baseballfanz 06-05-2005, 06:44 PM I was going in this week to get a 15" put in, was worry about the size but now feel better after seing JetTech's tv it's not big at all. :D
OSIEL 07-02-2005, 04:41 AM here is the completed install with two 7inch widescreen lcd/tft in the visor and rear console. the dvd player was installed under the rear seat in the center including a video amp. if anyone is interested in doing this mod its not all that hard just a little time consuming and a little bit of fiberglass.
GBPTITANFAN 07-05-2005, 10:22 AM Osiel,
You put that in an LE? Did it already have the DVD Screen in the center? I have an SE that I would love to do this two but it does not have the stock DVD. What are you doing for the audio? Can I pm you to garner all the details?
NICE WORK by the way!
OSIEL 07-05-2005, 07:31 PM Osiel,

yes i put that screen in the le i have becuase i did not get it with the tv in it (couldn't afford $1,600.00 from dealer). all this took was some time and thought on how to keep it stock looking. i used the original bucket that the tv should have been in if you got it from the dealer a little cutting and bulding with fiberglass (not to hard but time consuming). the audio is is tapped in to the factory system (i'm not sure if you can do this on an se). i sent you a pm with my email address so if you would like just email me and i might be able to help you out somehow.
