Probably, but they would also have to modify the exhaust hangers for the tips, since they would have to bend the pipe behind the hangers, and the hangers would then not line up.

We'll be talking with Borla on Monday, and hopefully have pricing for you guys as early as Monday evening or Tuesday.

You sure about that? I don't think John posted pricing on the Volant Exhaust deal that he has ran here...he asked members to PM him. In fact, look at the "Killer Injen Pricing" thread, posted by John...

Not to stick up for Erik or SCMS but I do know that a lot of manufacturers don't like posting prices below a particular price point. This is why if you say, go to Best Buy's website, some of their sale items will only show the price once you add it to your cart.

Personally, I'm happy to see someone from SCMS on the boards getting back to people quicker than in the past...

The reason for the PM of pricing is quite simple, and it has NOTHING to do with differences in pricing for members since all members receive flat discounts (except CA residents “state tax” and HI/AK/International “shipping costs are higher”), or anything "Shady" like that. I am actually quite insulted that this is even being brought up or implied by a Moderator of this site. We have been a respected Site Sponsor on this site since 2005.

Many aftermarket companies follow what’s called a MAP Policy or “Minimum Advertised Price.” To maintain our status as an “Authorized Dealer” for all of the lines we carry we must abide by these rules otherwise our account will be dropped or placed on hold until the necessary changes have been made. Borla does require us to abide by their MAP policy. Now, we are only required to advertise at a certain price (in print) but we can sell the product for whatever we’d like.

I am not sure why SoCal Motorsports and it’s sales rep.’s are being required to defend ourselves, especially since this isn’t the first GB we’ve required members to PM us for pricing. This is a common practice across most forums/message boards.

Volant, Airaid, Borla, M/F, Banks, Superchips, Jet Products, Injen, etc. are all companies who enforce their own MAP Policies onto their dealers.

If there are any doubts about the pricing that we are quoting please feel free to PM each other and compare. There will not be any discrepancies in the pricing.

Like Erik said, if there are any questions or concerns feel free to post on this thread or PM me and I’ll answer your question ASAP!

I'm gonna jump out on a limb here and say that I don't think anyone was bashing,doubting or even asking SCMS to defend themselves in regards to this. I truely believe that it was just a question looking for a simple answer........

John is correct. MAP policies have been used/enforced by companies for decades.

The reseller has to "Advertise" the price according to the manufacturers MAP policy..if they do not they can face legal troubles or be removed as a reseller.

When these MAP policies were introduced there was no great demand for "online group buys". As the internet has taken over a lot of the commerce/special purchase prices/deals, the Federal take on the issue has not really been updated so posting prices online that are below the Manufacturer's Advertised Price can pose a fuzzy legal area as nobody knows how internet advertising can or will be enforced yet.

So my guess is that SoCal is just covering thier butts to avoid any potential legal problems.

Besides, this is a totally OPTIONAL purchase. It would only take someone 5 mintues to do a google/ebay search to find different prices on the exhaust. If what you find in the search is better, it's simple...don't participate in the group buy and just get it off ebay or wherever you found the better deal.

Maybe Bill was simply ensuring that the SCMS policies were being carried out by your new sales representative? I know there was some feelings of sketchiness among some of the membership since Erik was a member under another username previously, and didn't even introduce himself as such when becoming an "employee" of SCMS. Most folks found out by his new shift title under his other username.

Does this system work on my 07? I know they changed the design...It will work on the 07 trucks as it replaces the entire exhaust system. The only systems that do not work on the 07 are those that retain the factory Y pipe on the 04-06 trucks. Your 07 does not have a traditional Y-pipe, but uses a 2 into 1 muffler. All the hangers are the same though, I actually have a factory 07 system on my 06 truck.

I think it is just hard to inperpret the "meaning" behind sentences on the web when you cannot hear the inflection/emphasis of the words.

I think when you were saying "YOU were the one.." etc that it got misconstrued because in general when someone puts a word in all caps it represents yelling the word whereas I believe you intention in the caps was meant to show emphasis.

I wondered the same thing for a while...It wasn't until I started working with John that I finally understood :)

Borla are nice easy to install around 45min. to hour with the right tools, comes with everthing you need hangers for left side, two thing they are quite ,if your looking for loud sound its not thier wiating for Stillen long headers to see if it will get little loud and if you have rear box's on driver side, it willn't open all the way when you install back rear it hits the pipe,you can still put stuff in it but its a pain

We all have the right to know the lowest sale price and its terms (taxes, freight, timeframes, etc). The more difficult that price is to determine the less likely the item will sell at all. I'm surprised that members of this forum that have gotten the PM'ed price haven't made it known to all. That is the quickest way to end the 'mystery'.

The dealer should not be indignant over our need for an open pricing policy. The more open and honest the sponsor/sellers are with us the more willing we will be to do business with them. Caveat Emptor!

Why ruin a good thing? The vendor IS held to minimum advertised pricing. On April 2 MSD and Edge started their MVP zero tolerance policy for MAP pricing - a retailer gets caught once offering below MAP and they are banned for life from buying MSD/Edge products.

The fastest way to ruin a group buy is to "teach the vendor a lesson" and post the price. Next thing that will happen is the vendor will get calls from the manuf because another vendor will complain, then if the vendor is having the item drop shipped from the manuf (which most group buys do) then the manuf refuses to ship the orders or delays the orders.

You want the posted price? Pay MAP. You want the lowest price? Go along with the vendors request. You want to prove your point and post the unadvertised prices? Here's your sign.

Well, I would say he is dealing with it by doing the pricing through PMs, rather then advertising it. I was upset about the tactic at first also, but if this is what he has to do to give the membership the best possible price, I say "so be it".

I know. I'm on other forums and this is the only one that doesn't show prices for their GB's. Doesn't it kinda defeat the purpose if you need a certain number of interests before getting a price w/o know what the price is? Usually it's like, "GB, so...so...dollars, we need at least 10 buyers to get the discount." BOOM....done. No guessing and unnecessary PM's just to find out how much it is in the first place. Or perhaps, I'm just a little disgruntled because I never got a PM reply to the last GB for the Volant exhaust.
