: How would I go about this?
TitanLE 04-02-2007, 03:28 PM I've accumulated a bunch of products and Im wondering what ordre I should use them in. I've noticed swirl marks and the finish isnt as shiny as b4 winter. This is what I have:
Meguiars #7 Show car glaze
Meguairs #9 Swirl Mark Remover
Mothers Pure Carnuaba Wax
Meguiars Clay quik detailer
Armor-All Wax it dry gel
Im thinking first do the clay bar treatment. Then the glaze, followed by the swirlmark remover. Follow that with the wax.
clay bar is the bomb, did mine last week then a cleaner wax(bling)
ryant831 04-02-2007, 03:32 PM I think I'd give it a good wash, then the swirl remover, clay bar, wash, polish, wax and save the quick detailer for touch up jobs. There was a good write up on it a while back that someone posted in my clay bar thread. They are by far more knoledgeable then me.
gtcompscientist 04-02-2007, 03:37 PM Based on my experience:
Wash -> Clay -> Wash -> Swirl Remover -> Finishing Wax
TitanLE 04-02-2007, 03:40 PM I think I'd give it a good wash, then the swirl remover, clay bar, wash, polish, wax and save the quick detailer for touch up jobs. There was a good write up on it a while back that someone posted in my clay bar thread. They are by far more knoledgeable then me.
the claybar i have is the quik detailer. Theres this little bar of clay and a spray bottle of detailer. It says spray the area first and then rub it with claybar. I thought I should do this step first....
gtcompscientist 04-02-2007, 03:42 PM Oh... I have only used the traditional clay bars. Never one that came with a bottle of detailer. Interesting. I would still suggest giving it a quick wash just because otherwise you can end up hurting the paint with the amount of dirt that the clay bar catches.

of course, washing is always the first step.

Ok, this may be a stupid question but why should I wash after I use the clay bar? I usually just go right to the polish...
cdayers1212 04-02-2007, 09:00 PM the clay bar with the quick detailer is a great product. The detailer is just a lubricant to keep the claybar easy to move. This is also great for removing water spots from acid rain on the glass. Its really good for tree sap and anything else you can think of that gets on your truck. I would wash, clay bar then wax. That really seems to work well for me. I have had 4 show trucks in the past and thats the best thing and like it was posted above use the quick detailer for any touch ups and wipe clean.
G8trfan 04-02-2007, 10:45 PM How many times should you use the clay before its no good?

good question...
robexploring 04-02-2007, 11:48 PM Use it till it's dirty. That depends on how much stuff it picks up. It's a judgement call. If you drop it on the ground, toss it right away.
You have to wash after clay bar/spray lube because it leaves residue behind.
It really does not matter which order clay bar or scratch X(swirl remover) has far as right or wrong, but I would clay bar first, because swirl will remove any slight scratches that clay may cause if you get a speck of dirt caught and drag it.
So wash thouroghly, clay, wash again, swirl, cleaner wax optional, wax, polish.

POLISH FIRST THEN WAX, WAX IS ALWAYS LAST
A GOOD SYSTEM TO USE FOR UNDER 30 BUCKS AT WALMART IS CLAY,NUFINISH,WAX AMAZING RESULTS WONT REMOVE SWIRLS HOWEVER BUT WILL RETURN THE SHINE
TitanLE 04-04-2007, 02:11 PM ok so im gonna wash, clay, wash, polish, swirl remover, wax
Blue_Water_Rush 04-04-2007, 09:54 PM That's funny... I already had the swirl remover no. 2.... today i picked up the show car glaze and yellow tech wax. The procedure is:
1. swirl remover with foam or wool bonnet on orbital
2. show car glaze (polish) with terry or microfiber bonnet
3. yellow wax with applicator bonnet. remove by hand with microfiber towel.
The clay kit comes with the 2 clay bars, quik detailer, micro towel & cleaner wax. I have all that stuff already.. so I'm looking for just the clay without the kit. The quik detailer is used as a lubricant for the clay. Spray it on a section and work the clay accross it.
TitanLE 04-08-2007, 03:08 PM Do you think the claybars sold at Peterbilt and Mack dealerships would be suitable for the Titan? Those things are the size of small bricks and sell for about $17.

i would say so they use the same paint on the big trucks ....

Had some experince with some of the items,,, Wash, Swirl Remover,, 2 times on arears that need it,,, don't be afraid unless you are using a wheel,, then be very afraid,, Wax ,,, glaze or detailer...
hwyking 04-10-2007, 04:59 PM The swirl remover will actually add fine swirls so you'll need to use something finer after that to polish your car up. The glaze might do the trick with an orbital polisher/buffer.
TitanLE 04-10-2007, 05:13 PM I always do it by hand, dont trust myself with an orbital. On a side note, i just washed the truck and followed up with an application of armorall wax-it-dry. This stuff really works! I did half the tailgate and then examined the 2 sides. The treated side was alot shinier and it had a wet glossy look. This is a great tool for inbetween proper polish/wzx sessions.

Those random orbitals are pretty fool proof. You can usually pick up the cheap ones for $20. They don't spin really fast like the polishers that will take your paint off.
Yeah I love the wax as you dry stuff. I gave some to my father-in-law and he kept saying it didn't work and I asked if he was using it correctly and he said yes. So one time I caught him spraying it onto a dry car and complaining that it didn't spread very well. :dork:He refused to use it correctly because his mind is stuck in the old days when wax wasn't sprayed on, especially on a wet vehicle. So I just took it back and used it myself :)
Nutdotnet 04-10-2007, 07:07 PM I'd never let anything with the word "Armor-All" touch my truck...their products get a big HELL NO from me.
Anyway...
Wash > Clay (using the supplied lube) > Wash > Polish > Wax > Seal
Blue_Water_Rush 04-10-2007, 08:10 PM I have a 7" electric random orbit buffer/polisher (3800 opm max). It is great for removing wax and polishing, but I think for removing swirls, a rotary buffer/sander is more the ticket. Just use a 3M 6" disc pad, and a wool or foam bonnet for the swirls, then rub off by hand with microfiber. But be careful if using a wool pad, as though it will produce better results quicker, you gotta make sure the buffer is moving at all times with light pressure or you'll dull the clearcoat. Wash after you're done, then use the glaze polish. I would apply it with the foam pad, or terri or microfiber applicator pad (thin microfiber). You can also apply it by hand, but always use a machine to buff it with, and a thicker microfiber bonnet. The paint will gleam after this step. Then just get a coat of pure carnuba on there and you're good for months.
Light wash followed by the quik detailer and microfiber will be the most you need to do for months literally. A good full weekend should be allotted to the total job.... wash > clay > wash > swirl/scratch remover or pre-wax cleaner > tech wash > mirror glaze polish > wax.
TitanLE 04-20-2007, 01:58 AM Hmmm just washed my truck and followed up with armor all wax-it-dry! lol...this time it got nice and sunny soon after i was finished, and let me tell ya, the truck looks amazing! It really brings out the metallic flakes in the galaxy black paint. It was a 20minute job and it really did give my truck a mirror finish, looks fantastic.
Wiskers 04-21-2007, 02:25 PM Meguairs has a 3 step system that works out great. Obviously you wash the car/truck first then you apply step 1 (paint cleaner), then step 2 (polish), and the final step is obviously wax. The paint cleaner needs to be removed as soon as your done with each panel. It's not supposed to dry like the polish or wax. Ohh, and lemme tell you, that paint cleaner actually smells like paint, lol. Once all is said and done, just run the back of your finger across the paint..........it's one incredible feeling. Kinda like air hockey and your finger is the puck, it just glides across the paint.
