Hey guys, I am having a system dilema. I want a new radio as my stock SE base 6 cd player is a far cry from my old system. However, I do like the look of the Titans radio and face and dont want to swap it out for an ugly aftermarket unit. What is ya'lls experience with keeping the stock deck and putting an aftermarket sub to it in a Titan. I want some good highs and mids, the lows will eventually be taken care of by subs. I also thought of maybe installing a Equalizer to take care of any sound issues. What do you guys think.

If was to change the head unit it would be to a Pioneer DEH-7700mp or something if the sort.

Yeah Pioneer is a pretty good brand. If you really want to tweak your sound you should install an aftermarket deck and not try to tweak your stock deck; they'll only go so far.

It's all about the amp my friend. You either want two amps...which draws a huge amount of current or a decent 4 channel amp with built in cross-overs. Then you can send all the mid and highs to your stock speakers as you wish the amp to do and either bridge a single bass speaker as I have done or run multiple bass speakers. If your a bass person even with one 10" you can get just about all the bass out of it as you want. But you want one that's 4 ohms or lower and can handle more watts then your sending it bridged. Also make sure your amp can handle 4 ohm or lower speakers or you'll send it into protection all the time.

It sounds great like this. The CD player much better then the radio though.

I agree, you can keep your factory 6 disc in dash, just add a good enough amp to power your speakers, and have them put a line out adapter on.

I have to agree with rossi. I just did this, this weekend and it sounds a hundred percent better. I put my amp behind the seat and 2 10" subs inder the front seats and it sound good. I had to adjust the stock headunit sound settings because of the amp, but it sounds so much better. I also am not in a hurry to change out the stock headunit, because it looks nice. But when you are ready there is a guy that makes custom faceplates. I have one in my project car and love it, check out www.humount.com. I have talked with him already and he can make a custom faceplate that fits the XE Standard bezel ( http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=68260-A60CC ) that most buy to change out the headunit. He would need measurement from someone to start making it and I do not have the bezel yet. He also said the face plate would be similar to the one in the ford lightning on his site. This guy is awsome, like I said I have one for my Grand prix and love how well he matched it to the dash.

I've added 2 10" subs and an amp to the stock 8 speakers and the system sounds so much better and cleaner now. I do plan on replacing the stock speakers but I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I will never replace the factory head unit, I have all the options I need in the factory head unit (except MP3, but I keep a computer in the truck so the aux jack works perfect) and I have never been able to find an aftermarket head unit that didn't look cheesy. I don't need a little screen that has dolphins swimming on it, or a little tv screen, or a touch screen, I just want a good clean sound, and a good clean look, and the factory unit gives me that(with some help)

I don't know how can you like that ugly big button factory stereo better than a nice flip down, graphics, aftermarket. Man, my stereo changes color, and it looks awesome at nightime, specially with the dash I just painted, the whole dash shines at night with the street lights.

Well I like fact that it looks stock, neat, has clean lines, and works with the factory wheel controls without the hassle of spending $60-$70 to make them work. Personally I like the Eclipse AVN series but at $1600+ they are not in my budget as of this time. Colors and lights are what turn me off...I like simple and functional. I esspecially like the feature that lets you turn the screen off too! The eclipse unit, when installed right looks VERY stock and has Navi too. But for now I will have to go with Pioneer and my lights and colors. At least till I hit the loto.

i did the same left the stock head unit so i had the 6 disc changer and the xm and added alpine 6.5 type r seperates up front mounted the tweeters in the dash and put alpine type r 6.5 in the rear it sounds so much better next i will put in a 45 x 4 amp and that will make it even better. might put a sub under the seat but not sure i want to give up the storage space i carry alot of stuff with me for work. good luck.

Boy beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I like the way the dash looks. And I have yet to see a face plate that looks good without the stock radio. But I personally like my dash and didn't want to change it. I bet I have as good as sound with it as you can get with an aftermarket radio.....

Just a little FYI guys, anyone interested in upgrading thier audio system owes it to themselves to check out a killer new device from JL
Audio called the "CleenSweep". I won't go into detail here about how it works but check out thier website www.jlaudio.com for more info. I just picked my truck up tonight and I love the fit, finish, and most importantly, the steering wheel controls it has. Upgrading the factory unit would render the controls on the steering wheel useless but the piece from JL will allow a true "audiophile" upgrade w/o sacrificing sound quality. I'm making plans for mine already... 6" seperates in the front w/adaptor plates, 6" coax in the rear, stealthbox for the sub and JL amps (300/4 mid and high end, 250/1 for the subs). Let me know how it turns out!

Just so there is no misinterpretation of the above post, steering wheel controls will not be affected when adding a CleanSweep. They will work as usual.

Sorry JLTD, as I re-read my post I realized that could have been taken the wrong way! What I meant was that one of the most compelling reasons to use the clean sweep (besides the obvious) was that I could infact keep the controls...sorry for any confusion. But while we are on the subject...How does the DSP account for the speed adaptive volume control? If inserting the pink noise disc allows it to read and correct freq. response, does it compensate for any adjustments made at high/low volume (ie; a factory "loud" mode for low volume listening)? Also, last question, I am coming from a complete XR system (components, and coax) in my honda element with a 300/4 and a 12w6d2(sealed) w/a 500/1. Is there a dramatic difference in the output compared to the stealth box? Just wondering if you had heard the box for the Titan. Thanks!

I'm not planning on doing an upgrade anytime soon, but I am curious about something: if you keep your stock headunit and add amp(s)/change out speakers what is everybody doing with the center speaker?

The speed control will still be intact, you should be able to turn it off if it bothers you (I don't drive a Nissan so I don't know how that works). Any volume dependent EQ will still be in effect if you elect to use the factory controls. Volume should be adjusted with the master volume control to avoid any of this (if it really matters). The master volume knob also controls the aux input.
CleanSweep is calibrated in the "meaty" range of the OEM DSP assault. The factory "loudness" compensation (if it exists) still works with the factory volume control.

Thanks for the reply JLTD. When you say master volume control, does this mean that I should only use it instead of the factory? If so can I use it the other way around and gain adjust the unit so that my factory volume control is the master? Sorry to nit pick, just curious...any thoughts on the sub question I asked? :D

I agree, you can keep your factory 6 disc in dash, just add a good enough amp to power your speakers, and have them put a line out adapter on.
I did exactly as required but later got disappointed because of the feed from the factory tweeters in the back .System sounded good but had to crank it a little to kill the noise from the engine .I hahe 3 screens that give me a little feed because of the FM modulator. This problem will be resolved when I get the PAC Turbo Line Driver .The installer pulled my amp and didi not charge me for the amp or restockinf fee.Got Infinity speakers for sale 200.00 for 4

so does the factory 6-disc changer (not Rockford) have pre-amp outputs? and a subwoofer output? I do I need to run the little device that turns the speaker wire into RCA cable?

Good question. I am also trying to do the same thing. I'm still hunting for a local audio shop that's worth anything. I would much rather do the work myself, but I need the know how. Anyone have some SIMPLE jargon free instructions? I have the equipment, just need to wire it up!
